Under the warm glow of torchlight, Lunera led Ethan through the castle. They moved up winding staircases and through stone archways, each detail showcasing the artistry of the high elf builders.
As they strolled, Lunera broke the silence, a light blush tinting her cheeks. She stole a sidelong glance at Ethan, admonishing gently, "Ethan, you must learn to temper your...natural enthusiasm, especially during communal baths. We wouldn't want to earn the ire of Lady Seraphina, would we?" She looked away, the barest hint of a playful smile teasing at her lips.
Caught off guard, Ethan flushed a deep shade of crimson, stumbling over his words in response. "Well, it's hardly my fault when a bewitching elf such as yourself is present!" he retorted, trying to mask his flustered state with humor.
A flirtatious sparkle lit up in Lunera's eyes as she regarded him, "Ah, then you'll have quite the challenge mastering yourself with the numerous high elf beauties frequenting our baths, not to mention Lady Seraphina herself. We take the sanctity of our baths quite seriously."
Ethan nodded, a hint of sheepishness coloring his words. "I understand. I wouldn't want to make anyone uncomfortable. Perhaps a private bath would be more appropriate... at least until I can guarantee my... composure."
Lunera, picking up on his discomfort, quickly reassured him. "Ethan, you're misunderstanding me. We don't find your... vigor offensive. Rather, we may need to ensure you're... prepared, prior to communal bathing." She finished her sentence with an enigmatic smile, just as they arrived at their destination.
Throwing open a grand door, she revealed a room of such elegance and comfort that it might befit royalty. Tall windows unveiled a breathtaking panorama of the twinkling city, the night lights painting a cascade of jewels on the canvas of darkness.
As they stepped into the grandeur of the room, Ethan found himself mumbling in bewilderment, "Prepared?" He quickly transitioned into sheer astonishment, looking around the lavish space, "Is this...my room? Am I some kind of nobility in this world?"
Lunera chuckled softly, the sound of a gentle murmur in the expanse of the chamber. "Not quite. But if you prove yourself worthy, suitable rewards shall follow. I'll fill you in more about our world when we rise with the dawn. There's much you'll find surprising here."
"I've been constantly surprised ever since I arrived in this world. Not sure how much more astonishment I can handle," Ethan quipped, casting a lighthearted grin her way.
As Lunera wafted through the room, her lithe figure cast captivating shadows against the flickering torchlight. Her voice, a whispering sonnet in the soft glow, hinted at concealed surprises yet to unfurl. "The night still has one secret left to reveal."
In the process of shedding his attire, Ethan came to an abrupt halt, his expression registering unanticipated surprise. His words hung in the air, laden with uncertainty, "Wait...Are we about to...Would Seraphina be alright with us...sharing a bed?
In response, Lunera's beautiful face held a note of confusion as she extinguished the last remaining torch, plunging them into complete darkness. Her soft voice carried through the obscurity, gentle and reassuring, "Absolutely. Our world is different, Ethan. Relationships here are open and free. Monogamy is a concept largely held by a religious minority. I hope this eases your concerns." Her words echoed in the room, seeping into the silence of the night.
"Is Seraphina of a religious bent?" Ethan wondered aloud, his question suspended mid-air when Lunera's lips met his in an electrifying kiss. They tumbled onto the bed, a tangle of anticipation and desire.
Ethan could feel the warmth of Lunera's naked form pressed against his own as their bodies moved in rhythm, drawing breathy gasps from them both. As he entered her, a soft cry of pure ecstasy escaped Lunera, echoing softly in the hushed room.
Ethan murmured in her ear, his voice a smoky whisper, "Do all high elves feel as amazing as you?" His words tickled her, eliciting a soft giggle as he gently marked her neck, evoking an audible moan from Lunera.
"No one can match the chosen one," Lunera whispered back as they reached their peak together, their satisfied sighs blending in the dim room.
Gradually, as the city's twinkling lights filtered through the tall windows, Ethan's eyes adjusted to the semi-darkness. He found himself lost in the view, the room glowing with intimate tranquility. As he drifted to sleep, he was enveloped in Lunera's arms, a cocoon of warmth and peace.
As dawn broke, Ethan, accompanied by Lunera, made his way to meet with General Duke. Their path led them through the breathtaking landscapes of the kingdom, where the morning dew glistened on leaves and the sweet aroma of blooming flowers infused the air. The command post, an impressive fortress hewn into the living rock of a formidable mountain, came into view. Its stone ramparts blended seamlessly with the craggy cliffside, creating a nearly impregnable citadel.
Looming over a verdant expanse of undulating wilderness, the fortress provided an unobstructed vista of the battleground. Below, the terrain was a mesmerizing tapestry of dense forests, their canopies unbroken save for the occasional jagged mountain peak piercing through. The morning sun cast dappled patterns on the forest floor, adding a touch of ethereal beauty to the impending battlefield.
As Ethan journeyed up the mountainous terrain, he effortlessly wielded his recently acquired gravity magic, 'Cosmic Command.' Without relying on any climbing equipment, he carried Lunera in his arms, continuing the tantalizing conversation they'd left off the night before.
"I didn't pick up any special buffs from our time together last night, did I?" Ethan asked, his tone teetering on the edge of curiosity and amusement.
Lunera responded with an affectionate laugh, "No, Ethan. That's not how buffs are bestowed in this world."
Undeterred, he continued, "You mentioned there were more surprises in store. Mind shedding some light on them?" His voice echoed through the majestic peaks as he persisted in his uphill trek.
Clearing her throat, Lunera began to unravel the truths, "King Malik didn't actually dispose of the other summoned candidates. It was seen as a disastrous blunder to not summon a single powerful entity, especially after exhausting all available vessels. The information you were given earlier was merely a ruse to gauge each candidate's personality."
Yawning from waking up early, Ethan followed up, "So, where did my personality rank among the others?"
"Aren't you irked about being deceived?" Lunera asked, her surprise evident.
Ethan shook his head, "If they want to play games, that's on them. I'm just here to get stronger."
Taking a deep breath, Lunera continued, "According to the assessment prior to your arrival at the castle, your personality was deemed the most courageous, yet among the least astute," she admitted with a resigned sigh.
Ethan's soft chuckle echoed off the rugged mountainside, self-deprecating humor dancing in his voice. "I suppose my unintended display with the towel didn't do me any favors in the intellect department. But hey, it did take balls, didn't it?" He mused, a wry grin spreading across his face.
Puzzled, Lunera echoed his sentiment, "Huh?"
Waving off her confusion, Ethan asserted confidently, "Never mind that. I plan to disprove their evaluation soon enough."
Raising an eyebrow, Lunera teased, "About being brave?"
Basking in the irony of his own sarcastic remark, Ethan replied, "Oh, absolutely. I fully intend on showcasing my exemplary cowardice on the battlefield." His tone was laced with a dry humor that could only be appreciated in the face of daunting odds. They finally reached the entrance to the citadel, where Ethan gently lowered Lunera from his grasp to be greeted by General Duke's stern countenance.
"We have three other summons besides you. Now please follow me and I'll introduce you before the battle," the General intoned, his voice resolute amidst the foreboding atmosphere.
"Wow, no time wasted on niceties, eh?" Ethan chuckled, taken aback by the General's brisk demeanor.
General Duke shot him an irritated glance before responding, "You may not have noticed my army concealed amongst the forest's foliage, but we are on the brink of a major confrontation. The enemy believes they are staging an ambush, but we have been aware of their plans for months, thanks to our intelligence operatives."
At that moment, the other summons emerged from the outpost, their impatience visible in their tense expressions. One of them, a young man sporting short blond hair, a striking face and a dazzling smile, threw a cheeky comment Ethan's way, "Nice catch you got there! Fancy sharing?"
A chuckle bubbled up from Ethan's chest as he retorted, "If you can manage to stop pulling that atrocious face, then by all means."
The young man's brows furrowed in confusion, "What do you mean? I'm not making any face!"
Ethan apologetically raised his hands, "Ah, my bad. Seems like that's just how you normally look. We seemed to have started off on the wrong foot. I'm Ethan, and you are?" He extended a hand for a handshake, but the blond youth only swatted it away.
"They don't do handshakes in this world. The name is Arthur," he introduced himself, his attire glaringly out of place, consisting simply of basketball shorts and a t-shirt.
Meanwhile, the others chimed in with introductions. "Ajax," came a gruff voice from a man adorned in full armor, a sword in each hand. "Viktor," stated another, his attire indicative of a mage.
Ethan, intrigued by Arthur's unconventional choice of wear, couldn't help but inquire, "Arthur, you stick out like a sore thumb in this world. How did you come by those clothes?" The confusion in his voice was palpable.
Arthur, still appearing disgruntled, admitted, "I was pulled here directly from my world, no death involved. I refuse to dress in their style. I'm upset about this whole summoning business, but I'm cooperating for now. They threatened to 'dispose' of me otherwise."
In the midst of the introductions and revelations, Lunera's gentle but firm voice interjected, "Ethan, could I take my leave? I'll await your return inside the citadel once the battle concludes."
"Absolutely, see you soon," Ethan responded, his gaze locked on hers. His soft smile provoked a quick peck and a hug from Lunera before she took her leave.
"Ethan, your behavior suggests you're ripe for humiliation in this upcoming battle," Ajax claimed, prompting a nod of agreement from Viktor.
Ethan scoffed, "Are you always this insecure, or is it just when you're around me?"
Ajax, seeming concerned, explained, "Don't get it twisted, I'm just looking out for you. I've read many books in my former life, and guys with your attitude are usually the first to go."
"Oh, so that's how it is," Ethan coolly replied, "Well, you can kindly insert that advice where the sun doesn't shine."
Having had enough of their banter, General Duke interjected gruffly, "Enough, men. I've lost patience with this conversation. You're all going into battle. Figure out the rest on your way down." Without further ado, he cast a potent wind spell, launching the four off the cliff. Their screams of terror filled the air as they plummeted down the seemingly bottomless descent.
