Chapter 8 - Aernas

"Ah, my dear priestess... you came!" Apollon smiled as the High Priestess came to his garden and as she walked towards him, his smile softens.

"I hoped that you would come, my priestess." Apollon said as he placed his hands on his hips.

"I have been waiting for a while... what took you so long?" He pouted.

She laughed and looked at the flowers.

"I have been talking to the people asking for advice..." she sighed and looked at him.

"Are you angry because I spend less time with you now a days?"

"No..." He sighed and leaned back on the pavilion pillars. He had been waiting for her ever since morning, and she had only come by during noon.

"Should you not pay attention to the Numen first before its people?" He raised an eyebrow at her. Her reply, was soft laughter.

"Dear Numen, Apollon... The people also need me. Not that I think that you are less important though." she smiled as she fixed his lousy clothing.

He watched her in silence and looked away.

"I want my wants to be pleased too. I want to see you too, more often than they do." The priestess looked at him in the eyes as as he said that, and smiled again.

"Then I will try to. I will see you everyday then, my Numen." She smiled as she walked away.

Apollon stood there and as she was walking away from him, he couldn't help but smile to himself. She was going to see him every day... every single day.

As the High Priestess returned to the Grand Shrine, there was a hooded man waiting for her. He approached slowly and offered to help Aernas to be a better place. She refused and walked away from the man, but the man stopped her as he revealed himself to her and claimed to be an immigrant from Aomori.

As Aomori was mentioned, she turned around to face him. The man who's lips were red and skin was pale, the man who's eyes were blue like the deep ocean. Again, he offered a necklace, that would supposedly make Aernas a better place, a paradise. The necklace was rather... familiar. A peridot pendant, with an emerald at its center. The necklace had a golden lace, and the pendant had bits of gold all over it.

"Make the Numen wear this... and it shall make everything better than what you have as of now." he smiled as he gently took her hand, placing the necklace in it.

The High Priestess hesitated to give The Numen her little "gift" and after a week, she finally mustered up the confidence to do so.

"Apollon." she softly called his name as he was waiting for her in the same pavilion. He was happy to see her again, so he walked to her and hugged her.

"My dear priestess, you returned... I thought you had forgotten me since you weren't on time today!" he said as he pulled away, looking at her face worriedly. After a moment of pause, he smiled and distanced himself a little.

"Close your eyes, I want to give you something." The priestess said as she held an excited look on her face. Apollon closed his eyes, smiling as he waited for her gift and as he opened them later on to see the necklace.

Apollon's smile fades, and he asked her.

"Where did you get this?" He said as he looked deep in her eyes.

"I wont tell you because you might return it." She smiled.

"Do you like it?" She asked. Apollon smiled and nodded.

"Of course I do... I always cherish your little gifts..."

He did. He kept the pendant with him everyday. He took care of it day and night. He never... ever, let the pendant be touched by someone or something else. It might be the birds, the cats or dogs, and still he will not allow the pendant to be touched by another.

Days passed by, and Aernas was starting to become rather gloomy. The Numen refused to accept visitors and locked himself in his humble abode. Everyday the clouds would get more grey and rain would pour restlessly.

One day, Apollon asked for his most loyal followers and one by one, they enter is abode.

"Where is he? One of my servants, is he not coming by today?" The High Priestess asked one of her maids. The maid shook her head and explained that the servant went to the Numen as he asked for him. Surprised and confused, she replied.

"Why would the Numen ask for him?" She asked herself, and shook the thought of her mind thinking that Apollon might just need someone to assist him.

Two days later, the maid had left too. It came to the priestess that all that came to the Numen had not returned. As she was about to leave to see him, Apollon entered the Grand Shrine. His clothes were all ragged and his hair was a total mess. He was slouching as he approached.

"Oh my dear priestess... why would you do this to me... tell me my dear priestess..." he fell to the ground. His clothes were bloodied, his hands were shaking.

The High Priestess stepped back. She was terrified of what she was looking at. This wasn't the beautiful man she knew, he looked like a monster. His eyes were bloodshot and red, unlike his calm emerald eyes that shined in the sun.

She ran towards her chambers as he was crying on the floor, knowing she would've died if she hadn't. She slammed the door closed and later, there came loud banging on it.

"Let me in... Let me in, Ainoha." She was the last person on Aernas, and Apollon was starving. He never left the door, waiting for the day she would come out of her chambers. A part wanted to explain everything to her, to apologize for scaring her. A part of him wants to devour her soul, and a part wanted to cry out loud, to cry of guilt and grief... as he killed his own people and maybe, the love of his life.
