Chapter 31 - Urial's VR (?) adventure VI

Arthur, like the others before him, quickly passed through the interview section "Why do I like magic? Because it's what I'm best at, that's it, nothing like a childhood dream or anything. I was actually planning on being a swordsman when I started playing."

"Are we done here?"

"Yes, just open the menu and be on your way."

Arthur did this quickly, and followed the same process as the others.

Though, this time he went underground, into a mountain.

And in that mountain there was a city...

He was a dwarf, he was straight-up just a dwarf.

Although this race wasn't really in line with his class choice, he'd be able to break off the chains of his race and become a human with some SS-rank potion. Nothing serious.

Arthur, now Carmine, took in the area around it. There was a 'Vertid', a mix of spider and mantis. There were also other dwarves with iron equipment with shocked expressions, while looking at him.

Carmine saw that his body was bloodied 'Ugh, has to be a 'Combat revival' intro sequence'.

Vertide were annoying creatures, because they were a mix of spider and 'Early cockroach-mantis', where an anscestor cockroach started to become a mantis.

Their quick movements could be deadly, but they were still D-rank monsters. Nothing too dangerous.

"Chains of nothing, bind my target, make it suffer =Null chains="

[Spell; =Null chains= used]

Suddenly, from nothing, chains that seemed to be made of nothing, shot up from the earth, and passed over the vertide. Then suddenly tugged down, and keeping the vertide pushed against the floor, for maybe a few seconds.

"That which is nothing, burn with great heat, for thou art kindling =Null flame="

[Spell; =Null flame= used]

Suddenly, some of the chains of nothing split off, and started to mimic flames, and started to burn the insectoid creature.

"O' flame of nothing, blaze thou fuel, for death is kindness =Null blaze="

[Spell; =Null blaze= used]

The flames of nothing suddenly flared up and spread with haste, making actually burn marks, they were extremely obvious and savage.

The vertide squirmed and writhed with pain, as it did it's best to squeeze it's way out of it's restrictions.

"Turn 0 to 1, May nothingness become filled with energy, =Null lightning="

[Spell; =Null lightning= used]

A bolt that was filled with energy, but also not at the same time, struck the head of the being. A good chunk of it's head was blasted off, while the vertide was writhing in pain "What are you doing? Kill it!"

Carmine's yell brought the party back to reality.

['Dwarf '???'' uses ]

One of those stubby little guys charged at the disabled D-rank monster, and bashed their shield against it.

"Nothing, slay my enemy with endless power =Null blast="

[Spell; =Null blast= used]

Carmine hadn't remained stationary and leapt close enough that just a few more steps would be enough to touch the beast.

From his hand mystical forces burst fourth, finally stopping the writhing mass.

Lvl up!

'That's quick, though it makes sense, this type of scenario usually increases exp for the first encounter. And it was a D-rank...'

Now, how would Carmine explain his near death experience.

With this answer; "It was god's will."

After which, no one asked any other questions. With great luck, Carmine was correct that the symbol on all of their equipment, and his own, was the symbol of some holy order or something.

-------

Mad docter was a bit more socialable than the others before him "Why do I like ? That's a good question... I think it's the challenge, it's not some adictive nonesense with intrusive pay-to-win mechanics made to subvert gambling laws."

"So there's no excuse someone can make by just yelling 'He's a krypton gold! This doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, I'm still the best (While also being whale)'."

The interviewer felt a lot better after this particular one, he still wasn't nice or anything, but in contrast to those other four, he was pretty nice actually "That was it, you can go into the trail through the menu."

"Have a nice day." Mad doctor said with a fake smile, quickly pressing 'Continue'.

Where he arrived was in a physically weak human teen, well... After he entered, the body he took over was no longer that bad.

He instantly walked to the mirror in the room to see his visage.

He wasn't quite handsome, but you could tell he didn't have any blemishes of any sort.

"Oh, come on. I have to do the 'Trash noble' opening scenario?"

It was so obvious our friend Vero didn't like this.

"Fine, fine. At least abusing noble bloodline makes my life a lot easier, and will increase the validity of my guild."

Vero quickly called a maid, and had her clothe him. Though this would cause problems in the modern world, this was a 'Medieval+magic' world, not of the modern genre.

After a bit of time, Vero hastily walked out of his room, having skipped most of the dressing process. He was not going to put 34 saphires and rubies in his hair, that's just a waste of time.

"I want 7 'Sela heve' herbs, 2 'Brubsolk' herbs, and a 'Berkulok' E-rank magic stone." He said to the maid trailing him from behind.

Though her young master's sudden activity shocked her, she was still dutifull, since her pay check depended on it. The moment Vero disliked her in any way he could have her executed, but the pay was good enough to counter balance the risk of death "Is that everything, young master Vero?"

"First; no. Second; Call me sir Vero, not 'Young master Vero'," Then he continued with what he was saying "I want fifteen units of Brearb herbs, 12 Grevem herbs, 3 Vita herbs 7 units of blessed copper, then finally, get me 14 pieces of pure silver."

The maid given to Vero was inexperienced and new to the job, so she had to take out a notepad to write it down, which was surprising to Vero, since this was a medieval, even if magical, world. The litterary procentage should be fairly, if not significantly, lower than the present.

Maybe this kingdom or empire just had a higher than usual litterary rate than the average, or Vero got lucky. But the fact that his personal maid wasn't even able to remember long requests by pure memory showed she was inexperienced.

'A noble son without an already cultivated maid given to him... This is 100% a power play. Or... It's because this is a family at the brink of collapse. But seeing that the mansion doesn't have any serious problems, and is what you'd expect from a noble family still in it's 'Golden age'.'

'So that means there's something going against me in this house hold, be it the patriarch/matriarch or my mother, or my father, or a concubine...'

"And finally; get me 14 E-rank magic stones of the same element."

...

"Hey, maid, who apointed you as my private maid?" This was an easy way of getting information, just asking for it.

The maid who had just finished writing anything down, tried to remember "Your father, obviously."

"The patriarch?"

"Yes."

"Who convinced him?"

"...Uhh," The maid stopped for a moment before running back "I believe it was young lady Yuril and lady Bianca."

"And they are?"

"...The second child and 2nd wife."

"Really..." Vero said "What are you doing? Do what is asked of you."

"Ah! Yes Youn- Sir Vero!"

-------

'Head_hunter', when he was told he had to do an interview, he started to read the intirety of 'Dawnlight', a famous fantasy romance novel, known for it's length and corny dialogue with vampires and werewolves.

To be honest, he really disliked it, but his younger sister forced him to read, every, single, book. It felt like tearing his own skin off would be less painful than reading that garbage, it was so bad it was ingrained in his memory.

Not really because it was bad, but because of his little condition, giving him semi-perfect memory.

After he realized he couldn't forget 'Dawnlight', did he realize his condition was mearly a curse hidden in the form of a blessing. It felt as if his entire world was to collapse, so he used to finally break free from book used as a torture device.

People thought it was actually good for some reason, was it nostalgia, or had they forgotten the true book? Head hunter didn't know.

At least, his memories allowed him to torture all around him with mere words. This was why he becomes an orator class from time to time, for words are power, and his words of 'Dawnlight' are toture to all things with ears.

Luckily for him, he had no backround when he arrived, was an orphan cast out of his orphanage because they didn't have enough money to care for him, he wasn't an elf or dwarf. Though getting one of those two races was a 1/100 chance in the 'Realm connection' version of run.

No friends to hold him, nothing at all. Though he was quite poor, that could be fixed after killing a few E-rank monster, maybe a few D-ranks too.

Sael wasn't sure of what to do, he was currently in an alley way, he had a dagger, and somehow proper clothes even though he was an orphan.

He saw a few people around him with money pouches open for the steal...

Later on he had a few poaches with 634g collectively. With this he went to the 'Adventurer's guild'

Registered as an adventurer with 100g, quickly took a herb harvesting quest, and left soundlessly, with none except the receptionist really noticing him.

This was just Sael's way of doing things, being back-stage.

He'd make his party after he got to lvl 10, that'd be enough to close the gap between him and C-rank adventurers. In the meanwhile he'd grind out money and start creating artifacts and permanently increasing his stats with potions.

-------

Tzun_zu disdained the review, and at every moment complained about wanting to start, making it that no useful information was added to the minds of future viewers, since this wasn't live.

He entered an elf in the end.

In a mixed species school for future elites of the 'Empire', this had taken him three minutes of intense questioning. And some 'Advanced interrogation techniques' on a weakling in his dorm room.

"Can I leave now?" He said while laying on the ground, having his breathing apperatus forced into the nearby river.

"No-" Tsun zu said, and a dagger, which had been stolen from the weakling, stabbed into the weakling's throat "-Lose ends"

Max hp; 32

Max mp; 14

Class skill(s); , lvl 1. , lvl 1.

=======

Raymond was healthy for his race, but his body was quite weak for his a human, though that didn't really matter.

He cleaned off his shoes in the river, put them back on and left with no signs that he had just killed a man.

He was honestly not sure what to do in this situation, this opening scenerio wasn't super rare, but he never actually had any need for the classes there.

But now, that calamity, he needed to know what it was before he made any army to counteract it.

If he could get a production line or two running on artifacts that directly counteracted the calamity, then the difficulty of this entire trail would be slashed in half.

Raymond peacefully entered his, now his own, dorm room. No roommates in sight, sadly that roommate of his was dead.

The day was still early, and the sun was just starting to rise over the horizen. From behind him, as Raymond was picking up all the items that may be of value "Raymond, it's finally time to ditch this joint! Come on!"

Raymond predicted that this was not something like sneaking out of school "Graduation?" He asked with tired eyes.

"Yea! Come on, we're going to be late sleepy head."

Raymond quickly inspected the woman infront of him, not at all pretty, for an elf. Nieave, has long relations with the original, and seems to resist .

How did he know that? Well, he used the skill to get some more answers out of her, without advanced interrogation techniques. Though, she wasn't even fased.

Raymond choose her too annoying to travel with, so he was certain to discard her. But her being able to resist wasn't too shocking, an innate resistence or a class specified to be resistant to mental pressures would do the trick.

Raymond took no large note of it, though in the light of the rising sun, her skin did seem a little pale, and a little bit of red could be seen in her eyes.

She also seemed honestly hurried in her steps, and seemed to afraid of something in the distance.

Raymond, saw a slight sizzling where light befell her "Sus." He couldn't help but say.

Though the girl heard him, it seems she was a little too hurried to say anything about it. She honestly didn't even know what it meant, it was completely outside of her language's area of expertise.

'Saved by the only partial automatic translation once again!'

After a slight bit the two entered a building, Raymond just followed the girl with pale-er that usual elf skin, who had not cared to inspect beyond that fact.

And he wasn't planing on doing that in the forseable future either, he was going to ditch her at the first moment, to quickly get to lvl 2 and get the foundational skill for his class.

Making people fear him with just his presence is nice and all but... Just... It's not as good as .

In the end, the two entered a huge hall, after sitting down next to eachother, and a bit of waiting, all the seats were filled.

The girl tried to make small talk, but failed when Raymond shot them all down with slightly scaving remarks.

"Are you nervous?"

"No, why would I be? I'm not like you."

"..."

What Raymond meant was 'Not someone talentless', though everyone needed at least a slight bit of talent, and yes, one of those talents may be social status.

After that, on the podium infront of them, an old guy walked up "I'm sure everyone here knows who I am, so I will not introduce myself again. I wish all of you the best of wishes as you-"

Raymond had tuned him out, it was obvious it was just some encouragement for the unfit.

But suddenly his ears perked up when he heard "Those who have successfully graduated may choose a skill tree core, two skills, or an artifact."

=======

Please choose;

-Skill-trees cores-

-Skill crystals-

-Artifacts-

=======

Suddenly Raymond looked apon the man with honest thanks, though that meant almost nothing.

It was pretty surprising they could put up a screen, but it's probaly the 'Principal' class, yes, I believe that class could do this.

Raymond quickly opened the 'Skill-tree cores' sub-screen, and had fun going through it for any skill suitable for him, and he found one that fit perfectly .

"It seems most of you have chosen your rewards, those who have graduated." The old man said.

While the girl next to him seemed rather chipper.

If you looked around you could see many happy, and sad, faces.

Then the speech filled with words to encourage or soften the blow for the inferior continued for an hour.

-------

'Element_al' was put into a human body, specifically, one of the apprentice mages from some mage association. Though it was pretty good there, no chains binding him, the original was even an adventurer with a fairly good reputation among E-ranks.

Nikles didn't own a home, but he was renting a place in some family's barn.

There the new Nikles had created a magical circle with his own blood "O' spirits, hear my call. Heed thy oath with the anscestor of all elementalist !"

From the tiny, now glowing, red circle, a spirit flew out.

One of hatred and blood shed, just as Nikles wishes.

"Spirit of the beyond, let's make a deal ."

"You get 35% of the experience of the beings you kill, and I'll make you an artifact that allows you to be resummoned automatically in a short amount of time, not extending past two weeks, making it possible for you to be consistantly killing things without the problems made by not being able to come here yourself."

The spirit, with little intelligence, just wanted to kill things. Truthfully, for spirits, you usually give a 50/50 split if you're on equal footing, or if you stand on top in the relationship.

So this was pretty exploitative, and the continious summoning was something he'd like to set up for each of his spirits, just so they all grind as his little pets for his endless growth.

2 spirits with a 50/50 split on his own power level with such a set up would practically double his leveling speed.

Though, this would only work on lower level spirits, and such contracts usually only lasted about a year, max. Since dying constantly doesn't really feel nice.

And a loose spirit is ofter thought as a monster without a magic stone and skill crystal.

Most importantly; Beyond B-rank, this strategy becomes completely useless. And there's a limit to how many spirits you can have, because spirits don't really like working with more of their own kind.

Through the same elementalist.

Luckily that wasn't a problem.

Nikles picked up all his gear and started to journey to the city, after which he tracked down the dungeon that was it's base, and with his status among E-ranks, no one cared to check his level.

------

Juggernaut also discarded the interview and entered a human host.

Who was in the middle of combat, part of a duo.

=======

Name; Cyprus

Class; Knight, lvl 1

Max hp; 37

Max mp; 11

=======

The duo were a low level E-rank party, Cyprus the swordsman, the other party member the mage.

That other party member was a new, but also talented girl. A worthy recruit to new Cyprus' guild.

The opponent was just a group of goblins, actually not that dangerous, but since Cyprus had been knocked out suddenly, the talented magician had been doing her best to stop every single one of them herself

Cyprus took out his sword and used like a real man, quickly tackling down a goblin. The moment he knew the goblin would fall, he leaned back immeadiately with another , then he cancled it.

Then he slashed his sword through the falling goblin's neck.

Not one to wait, Cyprus charged towards the next one, this time cancling before the goblin got hit, then shifted his direction by 30 degrees and charged again.

While in the middle of the he jumped, cancled it, twirled around and slashed the goblin's head off. All in quick succession.

He quickly killed another goblin with his ' gambit', after which, a goblin finally got the balls to attack him.

Instead of dodging, he put his sword in a reverse grip, then bashed the base of the hilt right against the goblin's jaw before it could do anything.

Of course, his grip went back to normal, he used to gain speed suddenly, then cancled it in an instant, then used that speed to twirl while slashing the goblin's head off.

If you can't tell, after gaining , you need to be sure you cancel it before it finished it's attack. The twirl is just a personal twist Cyprus finds to work best with it, not really an official way of fighting as a knight.

Now that the goblins were all dead, he did the important job of spinning the crystal lottery.

Sadly, he did not gain any skills. And since Cyprus wasn't that proficient in the act of creating artifacts, or 'artificy'

So he couldn't do anything with the magic stones.

How did he explain his sudden incapacitation? This was how; 'I have no idea what you're talking about, maybe you have some mental problems? Should we check you into a Psychiatric hospital?'

Of course, she didn't know what a 'Psychiatric hospital' even was, but she knew it didn't have positive connotations "Stop messing around Cyprus."

"Then you should stop being a loser."

She couldn't argue with that, since there was no right way to fight back after that, in her unexperienced mind. And there was a sword next to her neck.

That helped a lot too.
