Slowly and making sure to not damage in any way the door or even the handle, Danuja tugged the handle off hearing a small clink on the other side.
At the same time, the door itself clicked, opening by itself.
Finally fully up on her feet, Danuja looked around for her homeroom teacher book. She learned a long time ago that the teacher room didn't have any type of cameras, something about adults privacy in her principal words.
The teacher books where behind a glass cabined making Danuja frown, gritting her teeth.
Lucky me I'm prepared eh? she thought, not risking speaking out loud before taking out the the rubber bands, intertwining them around the thing screwdriver, covering it whole. It's so risky it's not even funny she though before huffing silently
Gritting her teeth, Danuja pushed the rubber covered screwdriver between the small spot of the door glass. If the rumors where right, then almost two years ago, a P.E. teacher chipped a part of the glass with his elbow, said glass rattling every time it would open.
With a loud squeak, the glass fall over in the books, Danuja holding her breath, heart pounding right in her ears.
'' Fuck.'' she hissed, removing the glass carefully, putting it down on the table before looking through the teacher books.
Found you she thought gleefully opening the book to the letter she wanted, writing all she needed on a piece of paper hidden in her pockets.
---
Putting the damn fucking glass back in it's place was much harder than anyone could ever thing. But at the end she put it back good enough so it wouldn't fall at the first opening. Danuja fixed the handle quickly, making sure it didn't look out of place, before returning back to the bugged gate.
Taking a deep breath, enjoying the warm air, Danuja leaped over the fence like she did it hundreds of times over the years. For a brief moment she couldn't help but thing that she would miss it.
Not losing from her speed, Danuja throw the few screws she had on the pavement, small clicks hearing around the place. There was the sound of her breathing and the thundering of her heart before familiar padding and the sound of nails hitting the ground made her smile.
'' Good job.'' she said grinning when Dad begin running faster than her, leading the way home
----
The next day greeted Danuja with parents. Not hers obviously but the student parents that were doing photos to their children or talking for a last time to the teachers.
Usually, when the end of the year would come around, before Kana or Mr. Touma, Danuja would seat beside Dad looking at the student body and crying parents. It was a rather confusing event for Danuja who doesn't even remember her own 'parents' face in the first place.
Today though, at the end of her last year of middle school, Danuja mingled with the crowd, searching. Dad, the old dog, remained at the gate with a bowl of water nearby, napping without a worry.
Danuja hummed while side stepping an unknow student, her worn out jacket touching them slightly, a small bag of cheap colored candies in her pockets.
She found Danuja in their classroom, already knowing that the girl parents wouldn't be present. There was so much flinching, stuttering and empty glances to the side before Danuja realized that things in Kana home didn't look like they should. It was something that Danuja should deal with, she thought briefly touching the the small note from her pants pockets.
'' Found you.'' Danuja said teasing, giving Kana a brief smirk when she turned with wide eyes, a smile already ready for her
'' Found me.'' Kana said before tugging Danuja forward with her, looking at down the class window '' Look at this.'' she said giggling '' They look like ants.'' she said looking at the swarm of people bellow them
Danuja snorted at the comment before seating on a bench.
'' Will I see you this summer?'' Danuja asked not letting herself to show the eagerness in her tone, watching how Kana face shadowed slightly and her fingers twitched nervously
'' I don't know about seeing.'' Kana said humming slightly, biting her lip '' But I do want to see you.'' she said smiling gently at Danuja walking closer to her, forgetting all about the people bellow her '' Who will take care of your hands if not me?'' she said lightening the mood, Danuja letting her
'' Hmm... I just let them be till next year.'' Danuja said enjoying Kana fussing over her
'' You can't do that!'' she said just a little more louder than her usual voice '' Danuja-san, you will get an infection at that rate.'' she admonished Danuja, making said girl smile with warm golden eyes
'' Then that just means we need to meet this summer.'' Danuja said tapping her foot on the floor, feeling the warm wind from outside and the smell of even warmer vanilla. She sighed observing Kana fidgeting before gritting her teeth.
You aren't suppose to make her uncomfortable idiot she thought, scolding herself before blinking startled when Kana straightened up her back and begin to fiddle with her fingertips at the same time
'' Then-'' Kana tried to say mumbling something at the end. Danuja leaned forward, her face maybe a little too close, before saying softly.
'' Can you repeat that?''
'' Then, I give you my number.'' Kana said before glancing up, lips bitten and uncertain eyes. '' If you want to that's it.''
In response Danuja laughed softly, more a chuckle than anything, before taking Kana hand in her own, intertwining their fingers gently.
Her hands were so soft under Danuja callouses than it made her scared of scratching her.
It did not take long after that for Kana mood to improve, a gentle smile on her face while she wrote her number on the small paper Danuja provided.
She was a little concerned when Danuja ripped off some old posters from their classroom to write on but Kana quickly recovered.
And at the end of the school year, when they parted ways again and Danuja was holding two small notes. She couldn't help but grin madly.
Dad whined confused at her side on their way home making her laugh.
'' You are the best you know.''
Between her fingers were a house address, a home number and a personal number all of them belonging to one, lovely Kana Shishijima.
