Terrance was in the rest area of the Weather Institute, looking up the geography of the Hoenn region.
Hoenn Region, with its numerous islands, tends to have frequent rainfall in many places due to their proximity to the ocean, resulting in a relatively humid climate.
There were also a few areas that were quite hot. The crater of Mt. Chimney and the Fiery Path, which was opened up for special circumstances, are paradises for Fire-type Pokémon.
"If the external environment affects the training of 'Erase,' it might be worth trying it out when I have time."
"For Water-type moves, practicing near Fortree City is ideal."
"For Fire-type moves, I can consider going to the Fiery Path."
"For Electric-type moves, here is good, for Grass-type moves, here, and for Rock-type moves, this is also a good choice."
"In addition, for Shadow Ball, I can go to Mt. Pyre…"
While observing the descriptions of the various places in Hoenn, Terrance's gaze shifted to LaRousse City.
However, before he could delve into it further, there was a knock on the door.
It was Steven, holding a box in his hands.
"The research is complete, and it turns out that the meteorite is indeed related to the climate..." Steven began.
The item in the box was the meteorite, and after the research results became clear, the Weather Institute sent the meteorite back to Terrance.
"What's the result?" Terrance inquired.
Steven organized his thoughts before speaking, "On one hand, it's quite different from the research at the Weather Institute. If the Weather Institute wants to develop a machine that can change the weather, the knowledge required is the kind that can influence the weather, similar to the abilities of Pokémon like Psyduck and Altaria."
"However, these abilities are not strong, the range they can influence is limited, and it can't be simulated on a large scale…. From the beginning, these abilities have been limited in their range of influence, and it is difficult to find knowledge and ideas for large-scale climate change from it."
"But this meteorite is very special; it can suppress... the ability to change the weather."
"Suppress the ability to change the weather? What does that mean?" Terrance was puzzled.
"After simulating the energy structure inside the meteorite, we used its principles to create a machine. However, this machine couldn't change the weather. Instead, when we tried to use another device to change the weather, the original device that could alter the local climate suddenly became ineffective."
Terrance was thoroughly perplexed, "Ineffective? Isn't that bad?"
The research results rendered the device that could alter the local climate ineffective?
Steven shook his head, "I don't quite understand it either, but Professor Lucci was very pleased with the results, saying that there is remarkable progress in the research."
"Is that enough then? Do they no longer need to study the meteorite?" Terrance asked.
"Not for now. Extracting the energy structure of the meteorite is already the limit with current technology. Moreover, with the energy structure of the meteorite, the Weather Institute has new research direction for a long time to come. Studying the meteorite is not as important as before, but..." Steven paused.
"This is just my own speculation, but do you remember the result of the previous investigation? This meteorite is likely related to Rayquaza. According to historical records, Rayquaza has always intervened to stop the battles between Groudon and Kyogre. This also suggests that Rayquaza may have the ability to suppress these two super-ancient Pokémon."
"Combining this information with the stories from legends, I believe that after coming into contact with the rainbow-colored meteorite, Rayquaza underwent an unusual transformation, similar to 'evolution'."
Terrance understood, "So you mean, hypothetically, Rayquaza has an Ability similar to 'Cloud Nine,' and the mysterious change brought about by this meteorite temporarily deprived Rayquaza of this Ability, hence this research direction."
Some Pokémon Abilities do change with evolution; this has already been confirmed.
"As a Legendary Pokémon, Rayquaza's method and ability to change the weather are naturally beyond those of ordinary Pokémon. If we can grasp the principle behind this, then there's a possibility of resolving the abnormal climate of Hoenn."
Terrance nodded. This was a process of reverse engineering. Researchers wanted to deduce Rayquaza's method of changing the weather from the energy structure within the meteorite.
With knowledge of this weather-changing principle, solving Hoenn's abnormal climate was just around the corner.
"So, does this mean that this meteorite really might be related to Rayquaza?!" Terrance held the meteorite, feeling unsure of what to do if it truly had a connection to Rayquaza...
"That seems to be the case." Steven sighed, "You must not spread the news of this meteorite. If it reaches the ears of malicious individuals, it could lead to big trouble."
"In recent years, two organizations have become active in Hoenn. Their main goal seems to be the two Super-ancient Pokémon, Groudon and Kyogre. However, these organizations have already grown considerably, so eliminating them won't be easy," Steven explained. "If news about Rayquaza were to spread and another organization emerged seeking Rayquaza... that would be a big problem."
"I understand," Terrance nodded. Super-ancient Pokémon aren't easy to deal with; seeking them out usually ends badly. If Groudon and Kyogre were summoned and another battle ensued, it would bring devastation to the entire Hoenn region.
Terrance glanced out the window, thinking about how to handle the meteorite.
"Are you about to leave?" Steven asked.
"Yes," Terrance nodded. The Pokémon Contest in Lilycove City was about to begin, and he needed to hurry over.
"Before you go, take this too. It's a gift from the Weather Institute," Steven said, pulling out a few items.
"The research findings from the meteorite are significant. As the owner of the meteorite... consider these items as a token of appreciation from the researchers. It's also a gift for you," Steven smiled. "Besides, you've satisfied my curiosity, so you must accept these."
Terrance looked at the items. There were five in total.
A brown-yellow rock, an ice-blue rock, a red-brown rock, a crystal-like rock, and finally... a solidified droplet of water.
As Terrance took these items, he noticed the tension on Steven's face. When Steven looked at these rocks, his eyes were filled with... indescribable emotions.
"This is Mystic Water..." Terrance looked at the blue solidified droplet and subconsciously spoke. Of the five items, this was the only one he recognized.
Mystic Water, a miraculous item that can amplify a Pokémon's mastery of Water-type moves. Most of them are naturally formed, and the current progress in artificially synthesizing Mystic Water was facing several technical hurdles. The cost of making it far outweighs the benefits.
"These four rocks are Damp Rock, Heat Rock, Icy Rock, and Smooth Rock. They are special samples brought back by the Weather Institute from various climates during field surveys. Through experimentation, it was discovered that these are special minerals that can influence the weather."
