The floating map didn't show any settlements or villages along this dangerous path. Seeing the flickering lights that seemed to indicate signs of life ahead raised a question in the minds of the carriage riders.
"Should I turn off the Lamp!, Sir Aldric?"
"No, there's no need."
Just as they could see signs of human presence up ahead, those ahead could also see the approaching carriage accompanied by a bright light along the way. The sound of horse hooves and the clattering of the carriage would certainly make them aware of someone's arrival.
With the current distance between them, even if they were to turn off the only source of light, it would be a bit too late.
"The sound of a horse-drawn carriage... finally, someone we've encountered after all this time."
"Are you sure they're not monsters?"
