Aldric immediately looked up, where the hobgoblin had first appeared and leapt to attack him. Now, there were two more shadows visible. Although not very clear, it was evident that one of them was raising a magical staff and chanting a spell.
Once again, the raspy and somewhat shrill voice echoed, this time from a distance that required keen ears to catch the less-than-perfect articulation. However, being close to them, Aldric could understand that the creature was performing a ritual.

Dark-colored particles of the shattered remnants of the hobgoblin became visible, not where it died, but rather up there, beside the two shadows observing Aldric. It was certain that he had defeated the hobgoblin, so if this was a respawn, it seemed that what he was witnessing now was more complex than a simple respawn concept.
