Chapter 44 - Eating the heart of the Enermy

I really moved as fast as I could.

Raising the sharp end of the knife up to meet her as I watched her dive right into me, crashing her entire body into me.

Just as I felt my life flash right before my eyes, I watched as the knife in my hand dig right into the side of her neck, embedding itself firmly there.

"Nghkk…" I chuckled in delight as I watches a look of horror flash across her face.

The knife was held in my left hand, something I was sure she hadn't seen even after she attacked since I had only just picked it from the ground.

She probably thought I was trying to crawl away.

I watched in satisfaction as blood seeped from the bloody hole in her head as I dug the knife in even further than before.

The smile on my face widened as I watched an expression of shock and pain settle on the creature's face.

"Just die…" I muttered in a low voice to her, as I finally felt the loss of energy that accompanied the huge blood loss I had experienced.

Still, my body was on a particular high as I imagined how much money I could get out of her mana core.

I had only just dropped my hand from the knife embedded in her skull, moving with the intention of pushing her body off me and having her die like a dog on the ground, the way she had planned to get rid of me when I suddenly felt her move.

It was too fast and I was too close to her to avoid it, as I felt her move her hand and sink it right into my chest.

The extreme pain I felt when I lost my right ark was nothing compared to the pain that shot through my chest.

It was the pain of death.

I looked down at my chest in shock to see all five of her sharp claws embedded there, as I heard her speak one last time, jerking her hands out the next instant as blood poured out of me like a river.

"You die…" She struggled to say falling to the side, the second she was done speaking even as I laid there on the ground, in too much pain to move.

This would be one of the first lessons I would learn about the life tenacity of beasts and how destroying their mana stone was the only true way of killing them.

The cold seeped through my skin and gradually I felt my vision begin to blur.

I was terrified.

I knew I was dying but I didn't want to.

My eyes strayed to the body of the transformation beast beside me which continued to intermittently twitch in a way that told me that she was still alive when she couldn't control her body.

I was mad.

The thought of her living through all that while my life ended pissed me off enough for me to drag my body closer to her as I continued to hold the knife in my left hand.

The last thing I considered was the cleanliness of my actions as I dug the knife into her chest, using the last of my strength to dig out her heart, even as the beating of my own gradually slowed.

I could see the struggle in the eyes as I did it but I didn't care. Why should a dying man care?

The moment her still beating and bloody heart was in my heart, I slashed it into pieces, trying to find her mana core.

Yet, no matter how much I sliced and diced, I saw absolutely nothing that looked like a mana core and after a while it became increasingly clear that it was nowhere to be found.

I looked at her body again, and considered digging out her brain but I instantly realized that it was a lost course as I felt myself fall back on the ground.

I no longer had enough energy to do such a thing and gradually it was getting harder to even move my body.

Angry, sad and frustrated: my eyes fell on the pieces of heart I still had in my eyes and just like that  a crazy thought shot right into my head and I threw a piece into my mouth and swallowed.

"Nothing like eating the heart of a killer right before death," I laughed, sure that I had a crazy expression on my face, one I didn't care about. I was dying.

Without any hesitation, I continued to toss even more pieces of flesh into my mouth, swallowing it the moment it dropped right in until my eyes dulled and hands could no longer move itself.

I closed my eyes and thought of all things I hoped to still do, at the edge of bursting into tears knowing I would never again get to do them.

"If somehow I survive…I'm going to own everything in this world," I swore to myself and I was still deep in thought when I suddenly felt my heart thump heavily in my chest, right before I felt it literally tear into bits.

"AahhhhHHH…" I screamed wondering where the pain came from and why my death suddenly became so horrifyingly painful only to feel the pain worsen even more.

"AHH…HHHHHHHHH…" I screamed even more fiercely, shocked to find my body already drenched in sweat as the pain uncontrollably worsened so badly, I prayed for death to come even faster than before.

"Was her claws poisonous…"

"Is this what every one faces when they…"

"HER HEART!" The thought flashed in my mind right before I felt every pore in my body begin to bleed and tear one after the other.

I felt blood stream down my face, my hands and I was sure that by the time it was over, I really would be nothing more than a bloodless corpse.

"Help!" I found my self begging in a hoarse voice after barely ten minutes had gone by and the torture seemed to continue in a never ending manner.

"Some…body help…" I muttered out loud, feeling tears stream out of my eyes as I stayed awake through it all until I couldn't any longer.

The smell of blood filled the air and the last thing I remember thinking before I fainted was what kind of beast would be attracted by it and devour my body when I was gone.
