"Huh?" Before she could recover herself, Laurie was half-dragged out by Claude.
One million dollars was gone in the blink of an eye. Her heart was practically bleeding.
"Wait… wait a minute!" Laurie quickly turned around and wanted to go back.
Claude frowned in bewilderment. "What are you going to do?"
"You've already paid for it. You have to take the goods, right?" Laurie was a little anxious. Those were luxury items worth one million dollars. What if the other party refuses to acknowledge they had paid for them?
Claude pulled her back somewhat helplessly. "You don't have to take them."
"Don't have to take them?" Laurie was a little puzzled, but then realization suddenly hit her. "Ah, yes. We won't take them. We can just return them later."
Laurie then asked with a guilty conscience, "This kind of shop won't charge handling fees, will they?"
"Why are you returning the goods?" Claude did not understand. Shouldn't a woman be happy when she bought a bag? Why did Laurie still look like she had suffered a great injustice? "You can come down to pick them up after the meal, or you can ask them to deliver the goods directly to your doorstep."
Laurie's mind was completely blown. She hadn't realized that Claude wasn't just trying to act rich. He was genuinely buying them.
When he saw Laurie standing at the same spot in a daze, Claude pulled her away impatiently and walked towards the elevator.
The two of them arrived at the high-end buffet restaurant on the top floor, but Laurie looked at the delicious food in front of her and didn't have the mood to eat at all.
She didn't even notice that Claude had brought her into the restaurant without paying.
This mall was an investment that Claude had made before he joined the army, so he naturally didn't have to spend money on food.
However, Laurie was not in the mood to think about anything else. All she could think about were the things she bought on the first floor.
Suddenly, she put down her chopsticks and asked sternly, "Where did you get so much money?"
Claude did not want to reveal his identity to her, so he could only lie that it was his Grandma Alice's card.
"What?" Laurie was a little angry and her voice became sharp.
When she saw that everyone was looking at her, she lowered her voice. "How can you rely on your elders? You can't touch the old lady's money! I'll return all the stuff in a while."
Claude raised his eyebrows when he saw Laurie's angry and stern-looking face, which was a rare occurrence.
However, when she saw his nonchalant demeanor, Laurie became even angrier.
"How old is Alice now? She has no job and no income now. This is all her retirement money. You must return the money."
As she spoke, she took out a card from her bag. "There's 100,000 in here. I don't think it's possible for the goods-return handling fees to exceed 10% of the price. Use my money first to get back Alice's money."
Laurie, who had originally planned to never pay for anyone again, still couldn't bear to use the old lady's money.
"No need." Claude refused immediately. "This money…"
He wanted to say that this amount of money was nothing, but he did not want to expose his identity.
Thus, he could only say, "Alice won't mind."
"I won't allow it even if she doesn't mind. This is a matter of principle." Laurie took a deep breath. "I'll look for a job tomorrow. From this month onward, I will pay you rent. We'll split the living expenses equally. With my rent, you don't have to spend Alice's money anymore."
Upon hearing her words, Claude felt the corners of his mouth twitching involuntarily.
She really thought that he was someone who depended on his elders.
In the end, Claude took out his cell phone helplessly. After a few simple operations, Laurie received a notification from the bank.
A full 100,000 dollars had been transferred into her account. Laurie looked at Claude in disbelief.
"This is my salary for the past three months. I don't need to spend much in the army, so I'll give you my salary in the future."
Claude's expression looked a little unnatural. "I'll hand in my salary every month. You don't have to pay me rent. We're husband and wife."
"I'll use my savings to pay Alice back for the bags. You don't have to worry about that."
As she looked at his unnatural expression, Laurie did not know what to say. In the end, she only said softly, "But there's no need for such an expensive bag."
"We did not have a wedding ceremony. I didn't give you a wedding gift. Just take it as a compensation. Don't take it to heart," Claude said.
After lunch, the two of them returned to the first floor.
Laurie insisted on carrying her purchases home herself. She kept worrying that something might go wrong.
As soon as the two arrived at the entrance of the luxury store, Laurie saw Della and Misha waiting there.
The two of them blocked Laurie's way on her right and left.
"What's the matter?" Laurie gave a sidelong glance at the two women.
If they weren't in a public place, she would never talk to these two people.
"Della said you were going to sue her? She's your younger sister. How can you bear to do that?" Misha's voice was full of accusatory reproach, but her eyes kept glancing at Claude behind Laurie.
