Chapter 39 - Hit And Run

"Alright, find Mom and Dad when you have time, sweetheart. We love you," Fu Hua reluctantly ended the video call.

"Fu Yuanjiang, don't you think Xiaoya is acting strange?" Fu Huai stared at her phone, recalling Xiaoya's recent behavior, and something just didn't feel right.

"I'll call Qin Huaichen," Fu Yuanjiang said.

Meanwhile, Fu Xiaoya hailed a rideshare car and went to a clothing store, where she purchased a mannequin. She then followed Lin Meimei discreetly. Lin Meimei had a rough day and was feeling uneasy, so she decided to go to a place she frequently visited—an underground billiards hall known for its skilled players and occasional presence of celebrities. It was a place for entertainment and enjoyment, offering various activities like doubles billiards and even intimate parties. However, the location was a bit remote.

Lin Meimei was on the phone throughout the journey, driving at a moderate speed. After over an hour, she exited the highway and entered a countryside road, unaware that a car had been following her.

Suddenly, near a tunnel ahead, the rideshare car behind Lin Meimei accelerated rapidly and zoomed past her vehicle, narrowly avoiding a collision.

Lin Meimei hung up the call and muttered, "Why drive so fast? Are you in a hurry to die?"

The tunnel wasn't long, about 150 meters. Once the rideshare car exited the tunnel, it executed a 180-degree drift, facing Lin Meimei's direction, and switched on its high beams.

Still cursing, Lin Meimei was momentarily blinded by the intense headlights, leaving her vision completely white, unable to see anything.

With a loud crash, Lin Meimei felt as if she had hit something. She slumped in her seat, drenched in cold sweat, her face drained of color.

"Help... Help!" a voice came from the front of the car.

Hearing the voice, Lin Meimei trembled as she unbuckled her seatbelt. "H-Help... Was it someone calling for help? Did I hit someone?" She was in a panic, wanting to get out of the car to investigate, but she couldn't gather the courage. She had never encountered such a situation before and couldn't think clearly. All she wanted was to leave the scene quickly, but the more anxious she became, the harder it was to start the car.

"Is anyone there?" Finally, Lin Meimei regained some rationality and gathered the courage to look ahead. She could finally see the situation outside: a woman covered in blood, her face indistinguishable, but from her perspective, it seemed she had lost her arm.

Terrified, Lin Meimei forcefully opened the car door and succumbed to an uncontrollable bout of vomiting. Her panic only intensified with each retch, causing her to expel the contents of her stomach until there was nothing left.

As Lin Meimei tried to close the door, someone stopped her.

"Thinking of running away after a hit and run?" The person's tone lacked anger, but was tinged with a sense of disappointment, as if they had offered her an opportunity that she had failed to appreciate. Lin Meimei couldn't see the person's face, only catching a glimpse of a pale chin and the flickering orange glow of a cigarette between their fingertips.

"I... I didn't..." Lin Meimei wanted to defend herself, but her body couldn't stop trembling. Subconsciously, she glanced at the front of the car, where the armless woman still remained. But this time, she saw clearly that it wasn't a person at all, but a mannequin!

Lin Meimei felt as if she had walked right into a trap. She began to suspect that she had been lured into a robbery!

"What do you want? Money or something else? I can give you anything," Lin Meimei attempted to negotiate.

The person's hand rested on the car door as they leaned over. "Hello, Lin Meimei."

Lin Meimei caught sight of the person's face—it was Fu Xiaoya! She smiled at her, her eyes speaking volumes, and her dimples adding to her ethereal beauty. But to Lin Meimei, Fu Xiaoya no longer appeared human; she seemed like a demon!

"What... What are you planning to do?" Lin Meimei struggled to find her voice, filled with fear.

Fu Xiaoya approached, causing Lin Meimei to shrink back. Eventually, Lin Meimei crawled over to the passenger seat. Fu Xiaoya smoothly took the driver's seat and grabbed a tissue from the side to wipe off the tomato juice on her hands. She smiled playfully at Lin Meimei, who was hiding in the corner of the car. "Why are you keeping your distance? Are you afraid of me?"

Lin Meimei nodded without hesitation. She was scared—scared to death!

"And yet, you dared to slander me," Fu Xiaoya took a puff of smoke, and the swirling smoke made her eyes appear even more wicked.

"I was wrong, I truly was. I'm sorry, can you forgive me?" Lin Meimei trembled uncontrollably.
