Chapter 20 - Trials

As I floated in the endless space, a narrow road suddenly manifested before me, stretching out into the void. With nowhere else to go, I followed the road until it led me to a massive door adorned with skulls and decaying flesh, the stench of death clinging to the air. Hesitating for a moment, I pushed the door open, its heavy creaking hinges echoing ominously.

Inside, the only thing I saw was a figure with a deformed body, gripping a staff, seated on a grotesque throne made of eyes and mouths. As I stepped inside, the door slammed shut behind me, trapping me in the eerie chamber.

"What the hell?" I muttered, trying to steady my racing heart.

The figure on the throne shifted, its voice a twisted rasp. "So, you're one of the chosen, huh?" It stood up, its movements jerky and unnatural, raising its staff as a sinister grin spread across its misshapen face. "Sorry, kid, but this isn't personal."

Before I could react, the figure pointed its staff at me, and chains erupted from the darkness, hurtling toward me with terrifying speed. I barely managed to dodge, rolling to the side as I summoned a fireball and hurled it at my attacker. But the fireball shattered harmlessly against an invisible barrier that surrounded the figure.

"That should've taken him down," I thought, frustration and confusion gnawing at me. My power wasn't as potent as it was in my realm, and I could feel the difference keenly.

The figure cackled, clearly amused by my struggle. "Heh, so you can fight. This might be more troublesome than I thought," it mused, tapping the tip of its staff on the ground. A circle of light flared beneath its feet, pulsing with dark energy. "Oh, Lady Darkness, hear my call and answer my summon this once."

The light grew brighter, and from within it, a woman emerged—beautiful yet terrifying. She had flowing black hair, piercing red eyes, and glossy lips, dressed in a gown of black and blue that shimmered with an eerie glow.

"What have you summoned me for, human?" she asked, her voice as chilling as ice, sending a shiver down my spine.

"Help me defeat this enemy, Lady Darkness, and I will give you my soul if I die."

"Like hell I'll let that happen!" I shouted, unleashing a barrage of elemental attacks, flames, lightning, and wind all converging on them. But the darkness that surrounded Lady Darkness formed an impenetrable wall, swallowing my attacks effortlessly.

Panic welled up inside me as I realized just how outmatched I was. My powers, which had always felt limitless in my realm, were now reduced to mere shadows of their former strength. As I struggled against the encroaching darkness, doubt began to creep in—could I really win this fight.

The oppressive darkness swirled around Lady Darkness and the deformed figure, a barrier that seemed to consume all light and energy. I grit my teeth, feeling the weight of my dwindling power pressing down on me. My elemental attacks, which once could level mountains in my realm, were reduced to feeble sparks against this encroaching void.

Lady Darkness stepped forward; her red eyes gleaming with cruel amusement. "Is this all you've got, little one? You can't protect this realm with such pitiful strength."

Her words cut deep, fuelling the fire of my resolve. I wouldn't back down, not now. Channelling every ounce of power I had left, I summoned the elements once more, this time weaving them together—fire, lightning, and wind fused into a single, volatile force. I hurled it with all my might, aiming directly at Lady Darkness.

But before the attack could reach her, the deformed figure stepped in, raising its staff. The darkness around it coiled like a living thing, swallowing my attack whole. The energy dissipated, leaving only a faint ripple in the air.

"Damn it!" I cursed under my breath. My chest tightened with frustration. I couldn't break through, and with every failed attempt, the exhaustion weighed heavier on me.

"Pathetic," Lady Darkness sneered. She raised her hand, and the darkness around her began to pulse and expand, creeping toward me like a living shadow. "Let me show you what true power looks like."

The shadow surged forward, faster than I could react, wrapping around my legs and pulling me off my feet. I struggled, trying to summon my power, but the darkness was like a vice, tightening with every movement. Panic flared as it crawled up my body, constricting my chest, cutting off my breath.

"Enough!" I roared, summoning a desperate surge of energy. With a burst of sheer willpower, I unleashed a wave of fire from within me, the heat so intense it scorched the ground beneath me. The darkness recoiled, momentarily loosening its grip.

But Lady Darkness was relentless. She raised her staff, and the shadows around me coalesced into solid tendrils, lashing out to restrain me once more. "You're wasting your energy, child. You can't win this fight."

I could feel my strength fading, the fire within me flickering like a dying ember. The shadows were closing in again, and this time, they wouldn't relent. But just as despair began to take hold. The darkness surged again, more aggressively than before, and I felt its cold grip tighten around me. Suddenly, I was dragged into the shadowy void, the world around me collapsing into an abyss. The familiar sensations of the realm were replaced by an oppressive, suffocating darkness that swallowed everything.

As I was pulled deeper into the void, horrifying images began to flash before my eyes. I saw my parents, their faces twisted with fear and self-preservation as they abandoned me. The scene was grotesquely vivid: me as a helpless child, alone and crying, reaching out for parents who would never return. The scene shifted to my grandparents, their faces a mix of sorrow and weary compassion as they took me in, struggling to provide comfort in the midst of their own challenges.

Lady Darkness's voice slithered through the darkness, dripping with derision. "Look at you, a pitiful child, tossed aside by your own blood. How pathetic. And those senile old fools who took you in—what a joke. They could barely care for themselves, and you are just a burden to them"

Her words were daggers, stabbing into my heart. The pain of abandonment, the struggle to find a place where I truly belonged—all of it surged back with overwhelming force. "They did their best," I thought, the words feeling fragile and insubstantial against the weight of Lady Darkness's cruelty. "They cared when no one else would that's only because they felt guilty and not that they help you out of kindness."

Lady Darkness's laughter echoed with cruel amusement. she then transformed into my grandma "You're just a broken child in a grown man's body, pretending to be something you're not, give up already what's the point of living.

The shadows twisted and contorted, taking on nightmarish forms that mocked and tortured me. I felt powerless, engulfed in the darkness, my strength drained by the emotional assault. My connection to the realm seemed distant, a fragile thread slipping away.

Lady Darkness's voice slithered through the darkness, dripping with derision. "Look at you, a pitiful child tossed aside by your own blood. How pathetic. And those senile old fools who took you in—what a joke. They could barely care for themselves, and you were nothing but a burden to them."

They only did it out of guilt, not out of true kindness."

Lady Darkness's laughter echoed with cruel amusement. She then transformed into the image of my grandmother, her face a twisted mockery of the warmth I remembered. "You're just a broken child trapped in a grown man's body, pretending to be something you're not. Give up already—what's the point of living?"

The shadows twisted and contorted, morphing into grotesque figures that whispered taunts in voices that sounded eerily like my own. They clawed at my mind, each insult a blade to my psyche. I tried to draw strength from the realm, but the connection felt tenuous, like trying to grasp smoke. The once-vibrant energy that had always answered my call now felt distant, as though the realm itself was recoiling from the darkness.

My anger towards her skyrocketed, fueling a surge of defiant strength. "Don't you dare insult my grandparents!" I roared, my voice a raw, primal scream.

In a burst of rage, I launched a projected slash of energy, the blade of light cutting through the oppressive darkness with fierce determination. It struck Lady Darkness's arm, forcing her to retreat with a shriek of pain. The shadows recoiled, their form wavering as she struggled to maintain her stance.

The attack gave me a momentary reprieve, the darkness receding just enough for me to regain some composure. I stood resolute, the pain of her taunts fueling my resolve to fight back with everything I had.

Fueled by my rage and the pain of Lady Darkness's taunts, I felt a surge of raw, power within me. The darkness that had once overwhelmed me now seemed like a mere backdrop to my fury. I emerged from the shadows, my eyes blazing with determination, chasing after Lady Darkness with a relentless, killing intent.

She was still recovering from the attack, her form flickering erratically as she tried to regain control. The deformed figure, now barely more than a grotesque shadow, struggled to shield her from my wrath. But my focus was clear: Lady Darkness would pay for her mockery, and I would not be deterred.

With each step, I could feel a force within me—the power I had barely understood, but that now surged uncontrollably. The trials, the barriers that had constrained me, seemed to collapse under the sheer force of my anger and desperation.

I extended my hand towards Lady Darkness, a surge of energy crackling at my fingertips, ready to obliterate her. My focus was razor-sharp, the power I had just wielded still thrumming through me like an electric current. The realm seemed to hold its breath, the remnants of the battle fading into a tense silence.

Suddenly, the deformed figure began chanting, its voice rising in a sinister incantation that cut through the stillness. The words flowed like dark, liquid shadows, each syllable resonating with a chilling intensity. The air around us seemed to grow colder, the darkness deepening in response to the spell:

"By the shadowed veil of eternal night,

I call upon the void's consuming might.

Let existence fade, let all things cease,

As I invoke the Eclipse of Oblivion's release"

"Stars shall dim, and worlds shall fall,

To the void's embrace, I summon all.

Erase the fabric of time and space,

In the darkness' depths, let none leave a trace."

"Eclipse of Oblivion, heed my command,

Annihilate all, as I demand.

In the cosmic silence, let all things wane,

By this dark incantation, let existence be slain."

As the final words of the chant reverberated through the abyss, the deformed figure began to fade, its form dissolving into shadowy wisps. The darkness thickened and swirled around it, an impenetrable veil of void.

Without warning, the figure reappeared behind me, its grotesque form contorted in a vicious snarl. "Dieeeeeeeeeeeee!" it bellowed, its voice a roar of hatred and desperation. The figure thrust its staff forward, unleashing the full force of the Eclipse of Oblivion at point-blank range.

A blinding wave of dark energy surged towards me, a torrent of nothingness that seemed to consume the very fabric of reality. The air cracked and twisted under the pressure, and the sheer force of the spell sent a shockwave through the realm.
