Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

'Two.' Second Rank: Space. Ethan activates his ability and takes out Midnight from his pocket dimension. She hissed at him and scratched him. He petted her and began apologizing to her. "Ethan is sorry, my sweet little dark baby," he said, petting her.

"A twin-tailed cat?" Hadrian said.

"Yes," Ethan said. "She's my familiar," he said. "She's angry because I haven't been able to feed her favorite fatty tuna."

"She's cute," Hadrian said.

Ethan's face brightened. "I know right; she's my best friend, and I'll kill anyone who tries to hurt her," he said.

Hadrian nods. Emily enters the kitchen. "Our food will arrive in thirty minutes," she said.

"Okay," Ethan said.

Emily notices the black cat in Ethan's arms. "Where was she?" she asks. "I snuck into your dorm to find her, but she wasn't there," she said, scratching her chin, which Midnight allowed.

"I kept her in my dimension because I planned on taking her on a feast in the cafeteria after I won the battle against him," Ethan said, pointing at Hadrian.

"That was irresponsible," Emily said, flicking his forehead.

Ethan rubs his head. "I don't have any food for Midnight right now, but you can feed her some of your food; not too much though, or else she'll be sick,"

Ethan nodded in response.

"By the way, I need you to show him videos of his battles in school," Ethan said, pointing to Hadrian.

"Okay," Emily said, taking out her phone. "I downloaded all the videos of your battles because it was cool," she said.

Emily hands Hadrian the phone, and Ethan stands up to watch and stands behind Hadrian to watch as well.

"Good evening, Silver Field!"

Hadrian's eyes widened in surprise. "I go to Silver Field Academy?" he asked.

Ethan nods boredly. "Yes, but don't be happy about it; it's not worth being able to attend that school," he said.

"And now let's welcome our main characters for tonight! Hadrian Ignia and Mason Barker!"

"What is going on?" Hadrian asked.

"Silver Field is sort of a training ground for reincarnated heroes, and you are about to fight your first battle," Emily explained.

Once the battle was over, Hadrian was horrified. "Oh, my gods!" he exclaimed. "That was bloody," he said.

"Was it?" Emily said she began watching with them halfway. The video didn't take more than ten minutes.

"Yes!" Hadrian said.

"I don't think it is," Ethan said.

"Yeah," Emily said. "I mean, you helped heal the guys you fought. And that is a lot better than what Ethan did," she said, clicking a different video where Ethan's battle was.

"This is Ethan's first battle; it broke a record for being the shortest and most brutal battle ever recorded in Silver Field history."

She plays the two-minute video. Half the time, Ethan was just dodging the attacks from his opponents. Two people were fighting him. When it was time for Ethan to fight back, he didn't hold back, or at least it didn't seem like he held back. "My gods," Hadrian said, looking horrified.

Their bones were sticking out in the wrong direction. "Everyone was horrified by the fight, and Ethan earned the nickname the Villainous Hero."

"That's what they get for disturbing me and calling me weak," Ethan said.

"My bones aren't sticking out of my body," Hadrian said. "What happened in our fight?"

"The both of you were evenly matched during the first half of the match; you used your special ability where you absorbed your opponents' blood and then assessed their abilities and moves; it was quite fascinating to watch, but unfortunately something happened; I think you've assessed a sample of Ethan's blood before," she said.

"Then what happened next?"

"Your master gave you a command to kidnap me," Ethan said.

"I was surprised Ethan allowed you to kidnap you," Emily said. "I thought he would find this an opportunity to break some school rules legally."

They heard the doorbell ring, and Emily hurriedly walked to the living room.

"Food's here!" Ethan said excitedly.

-----------------------

"Malekith is dead."

A man reports to a tall, young looking woman with black hair and midnight blue eyes.

The woman didn't seem surprised by the fact that the old man was dead. "I'm not surprised," she said in a cold voice. "He tried eating more than he could chew; he was never useful to my plan anyway," she said. "Don't forget to get rid of Vella, too, he is trying to move faster than she can run."

"Then what are we to do, Master? The reincarnation of the Bloody Tyrant is no longer under the curse."

The woman stood up. "It's a shame he's no longer in my grasp; I still had some use for him," she said. "Unfortunately, Vella and Malekith had to ruin that."

"It was never my plan to capture the boy anyway, Malekith was in a hurry and he paid for it with his life. He isn't fully mature yet. It is when he is mature that we can go with the next phase of our plan."

"Yes, Master."

"Wait," the woman said before the messenger was about to leave. "Tell the leaders send some warriors to attack that Academy in a week, say it is in search of the boy, I want to see what the school will do."

-------------------------

Hadrian was held down to the hospital bed, and beside him was a beautiful woman, her skin was extremely pale, almost grey; she has black hair and is midnight blue. "So you are the reincarnation of Damian," she said. "We meet again."

"Who are you?"

The woman ignored Hadrian's question and said, "You still have some use."

Hadrian wakes up with a gasp and begins panting heavily. He felt like he was getting choked.

He is sleeping on the living room couch because he volunteered to sleep there when Emily and Ethan were arguing on sleeping arrangements.

'Who was that woman?' He thought it felt like her presence was here and was suffocating him.

"Oh, you're up." He jumps in surprise, and instinctively, he activates his ability. A sword made of blood appears in his hand.

He sees Ethan standing opposite him and deactivates his ability. "You scared me," Hadrian said.

"I notice that," Ethan said. He was holding a glass of water, and he was still wearing the clothes from the day before.

"Why are you up?" Hadrian asked. "Isn't it early?"

Ethan drank the water and said, "No, not really, It was noisy, and I decided to drink some water. I don't think I'll be able to sleep for now... What of you? Why are you awake?"

Hadrian paused for a while. "I had a weird dream," he replies honestly.

"Okay," Ethan replies. "And what was the dream about?" he asked.

"A woman," Hadrian replies.

Ethan raised an eyebrow. "So a wet dream?" he asked.

"NO!" Hadrian shouts. "I mean-- it's not like that," he said.

"Okay," Ethan said calmly, believing him. "So what was the dream about?"

"I think it's a fragment of my memory," he said. "I was tied up to the hospital bed, and there was a woman there. She said I was the reincarnation of Damian; we met again, and I still have some use."

"Who's Damian?" Hadrian asked.

"Damian," Ethan said, walking to him, "is the name of the Bloody Tyrant, the first star of Nox," he said, sitting on the chair.

"Is that my past life?" Hadrian asked.

"Yes," Ethan replies. "But for her to say 'we meet again' to you, it means she must know your past life," he said.

"But she didn't look that old," Hadrian said.

Ethan sighs and then asks, "Do you know the legend of the Bloody Tyrant?"

Hadrian shook his head, and Ethan looked at him blankly. "It's no wonder," he said. "The Bloody Tyrant lived more than five thousand years ago."

"So?" Hadrian asked, not understanding.

Ethan looks at Hadrian with a strange sense of annoyance. "It means that for someone to know you, it means she might, for one, have an immortality ability, which is impossible; the gods would never allow such a soul to be created as a mortal."

Ethan smiled widely and moved close to Hadrian. "So does this mean that the woman in my dream is a goddess?" he asked.

"Either that or she's a divine creation like Nox."

"The son of night?"

Ethan nods. "I don't know what her plans are for both of us, but I don't think it'll be a good thing for all the realms."

"What do you mean?" Hadrian asked.

Ethan shook his head and said, "It's nothing."

It was quiet for a while, and soon they heard some honks from cars. "Wow, don't the people in this city ever sleep?" Ethan asked.

"No, not really; humans usually hustle around to earn some money," Hadrian said. "Sleep can wait if you want to at least live comfortably."

"Really?" Ethan asked. "You seem to have struggled a lot," he said.

"Well, I'm not exactly welcomed by my family, so I have to earn money for myself," Hadrian said, his voice cracking a bit as he began to tear up.

Ethan wanted to feel pity for Hadrian, but he couldn't; he doesn't remember his childhood, and he doesn't have a family. In short, he doesn't know how to feel. Emily was exactly like this when they first met, crying about how her family hates her and how they refuse to accept her. "Is family important?" he asked. "Aren't they just people who gave you life? If you don't find peace and happiness with the people who gave you life, then they are nothing to you. Move on with your life, and once you've moved on, it would be too late to regret anything."

"It's impossible to do that," Hadrian said, his voice was a bit low.

Ethan rolls his eyes. "Then don't look so down, at least if you can't leave them, make them leave you. It's worked for almost everyone in my life."

Hadrian laughed a bit, and Ethan was confused as to why he's laughing. "What's so funny?" he asked.

"Nothing," Hadrian replies.
