Chapter 25 - Chapter 25:

A resounding thud and the wooden staff in the hands of the other man finally struck down, causing his instinctive body to step back. Until now, he had never encountered such a gaze. It was terrifying, almost unintentionally cold and ruthless.

Ace stood up, but a small, icy hand tightly gripped his hand, devoid of warmth, chilling his heart. "Ace, there's no need..." Demi Moore pursed her lips, silently pleading. The name "Ace" just now seemed like an illusion to him. He had never heard an incredible voice, but perhaps he would never listen to it again.

Ace clenched his lips tightly, his eyes fixed straight on the man, but in the end, he immediately sat back down, embracing Demi Moore tightly. Drops of blood from her mouth stained his clothes, the clothes she had worn solemnly to honor him, his favorite clothes.

"Why fear? There's nothing to fear." The scarred man tilted his head, spitting out a wad of phlegm, accomplishing his purpose. They could leave now. He walked toward the man who had attacked Demi Moore, bowing his head to look at the girl in Ace's arms. Whether he attacked or evaded, he would still hit her. It didn't matter if he was satisfied, but it was also no big deal.

"But, boss, that guy's gaze was terrifying." The man carefully looked at the scarred man's face and cautiously said, "Boss, did you see it? His eyes turned red just now; they were red." He had followed the Boss for a long time and had never seen anyone so effortlessly evade his life-threatening moves. If this wasn't terrifying, then what was? Moreover, he had heard the Boss mention before that this man had some issues in his mind. If he were normal, then they would have indeed died.

This man was challenging to provoke!

"How terrifying is he? Is he as terrifying as me?" The scarred man tossed away the wooden staff, crossing his arms over his chest, showing some disdain for his subordinate. Truly inexperienced and ignorant, a fool who became so terrified. How could he accomplish anything important like this?

He calmly glanced at the two of them, feeling no emotions toward his actions. After all, he had encountered many situations like this, spilled much blood, and it was natural for everything to fall silent.

But behind him, Ace raised his head, his eyes revealing a resentful gaze that frightened the scarred man. Shaking his head, he dispelled this strange feeling. Since the first time he met Ace, he had felt immense pressure. Suddenly, he sensed that this matter wasn't over yet, and perhaps, they would meet again one day.

And indeed, his feeling was truly profound, but at that moment, what he had to endure was more painful than several times over, even dozens of times.

Signaling to his subordinates, the scarred man turned and left without showing any sympathy, leaving behind an injured girl and a man with limited consciousness.

"Demi, does it hurt a lot?" Ace tightly held Demi Moore, hoping to convey warmth to her. Why was her body so cold? Why couldn't he bring back her warmth, no matter what he did?

Demi Moore blinked her eyes with force as if she wanted to etch his image deep into her heart. Ace, what would you do now if it weren't for me? Her head hurt so much, her shoulders were in pain, more blood seeped from her lips, and she felt discomfort and a dry cough for several hours. Finally, she fell into extreme darkness.

"Ace, I'm truly sorry; I am sorry." Her hand clenched tightly around his, except for the barely perceptible breathing that proved her existence; she was like a broken doll at this moment.

The bloodstain on her body stained Ace's eyes red, and his pupils suddenly contracted. Fear overflowed in his mind, gradually chilling his heart like ice.

Ace glared fiercely at the two of them, imprinting their faces deeply in his mind. One day, without a doubt, one day, he would collect this debt.

"Does Demi hurt? Tell Ace where it hurts." He held her tightly; if he couldn't still feel that weak breathing, he would surely go mad! What should he do now? What should he do now? He was so rushed that his head was covered in a cold sweat, but he didn't know what to do. He wasn't an ordinary person, he might be brilliant, but this type of emotion was also something he encountered for the first time. At this moment, he was genuinely perplexed and scared.

Yes, the hospital, they had to go to the hospital!

Hastily, he held Demi Moore and ran forward, remembering a small hospital not far from there. Demi wouldn't have any problems there, for sure.

When Ace arrived at the hospital, his clothes were soaked in sweat, and his hair was disheveled. There were moments when he had to pause and gasp for breath, but his hands still clung tightly to her, refusing to let go.

"I won't let go. How do we save her?" The doctor looked helpless as he observed the girl in Ace's arms. She seemed seriously injured, but this man wouldn't let go no matter what; how could they save her? They had never encountered a case where a patient's relative refused to cooperate like this.

"Can you save her, right?" Ace lifted his reddened eyes, indicating his immense fear at that moment. Demi couldn't be in danger, absolutely not. Otherwise, he wouldn't be able to live anymore.

The doctor nodded forcefully, and Ace lowered his head, gazing intently at Demi Moore. For the first time, he felt this kind of powerlessness; even when he was homeless on the streets, he had never felt such despair. He honestly couldn't lose her... His fingers slowly loosened, but his eyes remained fixed on her pale face, filled with anguish. Could there be nothing that could be done?

Finally, the doctor took Demi Moore from his hands and quickly placed her on a stretcher, pushing her into the operating room.

Demi, what should Ace do now?

He covered his face, his gaze never daring to leave the operating room door. Half an hour passed, an hour passed, time ticking away second by second... He maintained the same posture, like a lost soul standing there, wanting to see through and find the person he cared about the most.

Not knowing how long he had waited, only knowing that his body was becoming numb, the door finally opened. Ace's eyes widened as he watched Demi Moore being pushed out from inside.

He took steps forward, his cracked lips stiffening, unable to ask a question.

"Don't worry; the surgery was very successful. She has passed the critical stage and just lost a bit of blood. We checked and found that the cause of the injury was a heavy object. We'll have to be careful from now on." The doctor lowered his mask and explained for a while before realizing that this man didn't even glance at him. From beginning to end, he only stared intently at the girl as if he feared she would disappear if he looked away for a moment.

But the doctor didn't know Ace was still attentively listening to every word he said. His eye sockets started to feel warm, blinking gently, his translucent emerald eyes filled with tears.

She's okay; it's good that she's okay. Doesn't this mean that he won't lose her?

The doctor shook his head, seemingly understanding this action of his, and suddenly remembered something, reminding him, "Right, you should quickly go and complete the admission procedure for the patient."

Ace was slightly startled. What was the admission procedure? He didn't know; he had never heard of it before.

Seeing Ace's confusion, the doctor thought he didn't know the way, so he kindly pointed in a direction, "Just go straight ahead and then turn right. It's not far from here." After saying that, he instructed the nurses to take Demi Moore to a nearby hospital room.
