"why are you writing stories?" I smiled at that question. I couldn't really see the people because of the intensity of the light that was focused on the stage
there's a big screen in the back and two chairs in the middle where I'm currently sitting. The host is next to me. "Actually, I don't know either" I started with a smile, followed by the crowd's smiles.
"maybe because there are things I want to say that I can't say. there are things that we feel more easily in the way of writing" The host nodded and smiled. we're in the middle of a live interview and after that it's book signing.
THE people below the stage are smiling, they are holding books. "Many people are asking this, why do you like tragic stories?" Next question from the host who was accompanied by chuckle
That question made me think, That's when I realized that almost all the novels I've written have sad endings. I heard the approval of the people around me, which made me smile. based on the stories I've written, it can be said that I don't really like happy endings.
I put the mic to my mouth, "I don't even know why" I said with a smile, there are things I can't answer because I don't even know myself well. why? why do I love sad stories? even in movies, I prefer shows with sad endings.
"because maybe I see more beauty from stories that end sadness" I continued. the host agreed and we laughed together, even the audience.
He asked a lot more, Questions related to what I wrote. A few minutes passed, the director signaled that the live interview was about to end. "Before we finish, congratulations on your new book, what should we look forward to?"
The camera was placed on me, that was the clue that I would look right there and show the book I wrote. "The salamisim is now available at all bookstores nationwide. Thank you very much for the support. thank you for the inspiration and hope" I smiled, followed by everyone's applause. after that the director signaled that it was over.
The table has been placed on the stage and everyone lined up properly. one of the happiest feelings as a writer is that you can talk to your readers and get to know them. to know how their lives changed because of the novel you wrote.
"WHAT are you thinking?" I woke up when I heard Pia's voice. my best friend that I am always with in booksignings. SHe's the one driving the car now, my hand is shaking when tired. .
"I still can't forget the ending of your story. why is that? why can't they stay together?" we are currently taking the loose express way. The sun is setting and the sky is a bit cloudy.
I took the book that was on the dashboard and opened it "it's so ouchy," even in the story, I will be hurt too" I just smiled while looking at each page of the book. I also can't deny that I was the first to cry when I finished writing this story.
It was two years ago when I wrote the salamisim it's all about the only girl daughter of the gobernadorcillo in a town, Maria Florencita Garza. She fell in love with a young man named Lorenzo Cortes who worked at the newspaper's printing office and was also a member of a secret movement during the Spanish occupation.
I enhailed deeply, I still can't get the host's questions out of my mind. why can't I write stories with happy endings?
just like salamisim and other stories I've done. "I'm hungry" I started the conversation, She smiled Then she sped up her driving.
"Let's drive thru later. I also want soft drinks." She said excitedly, I also smiled because now I was thinking about food and what I would order later.
