"This is absurd." Blankenship tugs a pattern out of the circle, breaking the ring. Its stand squeaks on the floor. "See how much space is available?"
What you see is Gabriel folding the flaps of a small cardboard box so that they're interleaved. He hefts the box. "Sorry, professors, just tidying up." More scrabbling noises rise from the box, like it holds a very large roach.
Blankenship turns his ire on Gabriel. "Did you loot that box from my office? You know my policy on taking things without discussing them with me first."
Gabriel holds the box like it's a shield protecting him from Blankenship. "Sorry, professor."
Never mind that it's not just his office anymore, Gabriel's not his student to boss around.
