"That's very considerate of you," Dr. Ellison says. "I appreciate both of you accepting a less-than-comfortable situation in service to the department."
Blankenship hefts the obelisk as if he's considering throwing it like a javelin. "I can winnow down my office accoutrements. I've needed to for a while. I guess this is the kick in the butt I needed." He sets the obelisk on a shelf and eyes the room's width. "I have an old partner's desk at my house. It should fit. It will be less cramped than two free-standing desks."
