Dr. Gwen Pearson came to the microphone at 4:36 p.m. on behalf of the College Committee to report on grade inflation (it exists, but not just here), canceling classes for Scholars Day (we won't), and preparing candidates for tenure (we should). Dr. Pearson praised the interdisciplinary history department—excessively, some partisans grumbled sotto voce—for how it prepares their tenure candidates throughout their early years.
