"Punctual as always," Darcy murmurs. "Fine, go on, then."
You almost reach the stairs when you hear quick footsteps behind you. "Hey," Darcy says as she catches up to you. "Know what? Forget the luncheon. Get coffee with me."
Is Darcy trying to rekindle your old friendship? And is it really worth skipping lunch with the college president?
You could try to do both. The luncheon's in the student center one floor up from the coffee shop.
"I don't see the value in skipping lunch with the college president," you tell Darcy.
Darcy nods. Is she disappointed? If so, either she's hiding it better than she used to or you don't know her as well as you used to. "Of course." She bows slightly and twirls her hand, gesturing you on. "Enjoy the luncheon."
You spend the walk to the student center wondering if Darcy really wanted to spend time with you, or had ulterior motives that you don't see.
