Chapter One: First Day on Campus
In closing, the Vice-President for Academic Affairs congratulated the Interdisciplinary History department on their successful faculty search, then noted that she would accept thanks for the brevity of the meeting in the form of pastries or "other equivalent delicacies."
-Minutes, Spring Faculty Meeting
At first glance, Winfield Phillips College hasn't changed much at all since your student days. Same red brick buildings, nestled among still-green maple and oak trees. Same chapel, with its tall clock tower thrusting skywards. Same scattering of faculty members' cars, parked with zero attention paid to parking lines.
Your old frustration returns. Faculty get prime parking spots, and yet their habit of parking over lines and at obtuse angles means that they can't use all of their spots. Latecomers end up spilling over into the severely limited student parking. It made driving your car on campus an awful experience.
And then you realize: now you're faculty.
