Romilly looks at you in surprise. "Wow," she says finally. "I wish I knew your secret."
"I wish I did too," you say honestly. "But I can't explain it. I suppose I've not had much time."
You walk on in silence.
Nothing leaps out at you, or is even visible, as you cross the field of St. Mary's, though that does nothing to lower your wariness.
Before long, you're standing in front of the forest, looking at the mass of dark trees blowing in the breeze in front of you. There are no thorny bushes to block your path this time: the forest is completely open to you, as though waiting for you to step inside.
"Well," Sonia says eventually. "At least it's not a trap."
"Oh, I wouldn't think so," Max says. "I mean, I think the almost welcoming exterior is in no way meant to draw us into a false sense of security in order to bring about our demise."
"Nothing about to jump out at us as we step inside," Michelle agrees, nodding.
"No," Renault says. "Just a walk in the park. Well, the impossible forest. But still."
Before any more sarcastic comments can be made, you step into the close press of trees.
Instead of the onrush of death, darkness, and damnation that you were expecting, there's…nothing.
With a slightly smug glance at the others, who seem to have been holding what breath they are still able to hold, you take another step, and another, continuing forward.
In fact, you've gone exactly sixty-seven paces before the aforementioned darkness, death, and destruction arrive.
