You close your eyes, trying to take control of the rage that's rising within you. Even knowing about everything that Lady Rastan has been trying to do, the sheer vindictiveness of the vice principal, targeting the member of your team who's the closest to you, is enough to make you see red.
Which, you're forced to remind yourself, might be exactly what Lady Rastan had in mind from the start. In any case, you can't afford to let the anger make your decisions for you.
Romilly sags, momentarily overcome, and then, as though through a more subtle form of magic than even Lady Rastan has at her command, Romilly's innate Head Girlness, passed down through generations of authoritative young women with ringing, well-accented voices, asserts itself.
"Well, good," she says firmly, drawing herself back up to her full height. "Well done, Kan. Well done indeed. Now…we'd best keep moving, hadn't we?"
And with that, she turns on her heel and begins marching firmly across the grass, heading towards the school.
The rest of you take a moment to exchange bemused glances.
"Humans," Sonia says, as though that sums up what you're all thinking.
Will sighs, beginning to stand. "I know, right?"
