Romilly turns to you, her eyes wide. "The window?" she repeats. "Do you realize how high up we are? What if you fall?"
You shrug. "It's probably not as bad as the end of the world, is it?"
The Head Girl sighs, shaking her head in defeat. "You can't keep using that to justify everything," she mutters.
"I don't see why not," Max says, opening the large window next to the door. "We might as well benefit from our situation." He turns to you. "There's a window, though I can't say whether you'll be able to get in through it. Still, I've seen it open sometimes; she must like the fresh air, if Rastan's capable of liking anything."
You nod, then you haul yourself onto the window frame, being very careful not to look down. You're not sure at what height a fall would kill you, but you're just fine not finding out if it's the one that you're at.
Slowly, you shuffle along the window ledge, making use of the ivy that hangs across the wall. The others, leaning out of the window to watch you, are uncharacteristically silent.
It's only about forty seconds before you reach the next window set in the wall, though it feels as though you've been out there for hours. Gripping the frame, you're surprised to find that the window swings easily open, permitting your entry. Possibly, Lady Rastan never believed that anyone would dare intrude into her private office.
Without even bothering to look around, not wanting to be alone in this forbidden space for a second longer than you have to, you hurry over to the door, pulling it open.
On the other side, your classmates and neighbors gaze at you.
"Well done, Kan," Max says. "Mind if we join you?"
