You and Sonia come to a halt as well, gazing at him. "What is it?"
Max sniffs the air, then his face sets into a scowl. "Werewolf," he mutters. "Not far away."
You all turn to look at the upcoming turn in the corridor, only just visible within the lamps' faint glow. Something, whether it's instinct, a premonition, or just fear, is insisting that there's something more than mere darkness beyond that corner.
"Inside?" Sonia demands.
Max shakes his head. "I don't think so, but he's close." He takes another great sniff of the air. "I think it's Victor, but I can't be sure."
"Well," Sonia says, her hands curling themselves into fists, "we can't just let them wander around and do whatever. We need a plan."
Almost automatically, Max and Sonia both turn to look at you, the expectation clear. Apparently, plans come under your responsibility.
