Chapter 283 - 90

Sonia snorts. "Fair enough. Hard trying to silently infiltrate somewhere with a human and some mutts trailing along behind us."

When you come to the road outside the school gates, which have swung silently open to permit your mass egress, you come to a halt.

"Okay," you say, glancing at Max and Sonia. "Probably best if we split up now, do you reckon?"

They nod, turning to look at their respective cliques. Not for the first time, you're aware of how absolute their hold over the vampires and werewolves is: orange and red eyes follow their every move.

"You all know the plan," Sonia says. "We find the source of the disturbance, then we let either Rastan, Matron, or Old Cavalcade know about it. Don't try to mess about with it; we don't know what it is."

"And no hassling the locals either," Max adds. "If Lady Rastan finds out there have been stories about big wolves picking up sheep, she'll be…" He hesitates, glancing over one muscular shoulder at the school buildings in the distance, before continuing, "understandably aggravated. So behave. No fighting, no foraging, no f—" He stops once again, clearly fighting the urge to once again look over his shoulder.

"Fooling around," Sonia says smoothly. "You're on the clock now. So get to work."

The students turn away, heading out for the fields. Though there are far greater concerns than species unity, you can't help but notice the definite divide between the vampire and werewolf students. Aunt Cavalcade's mission isn't off to a flying start.

Wordlessly, you, Michelle, Renault, Sonia, Max, Fritz, and Val set off down the road in the other direction. It's a wide road, and the group spreads out quite naturally. The only two who walk together are Val and Fritz, who appear to be engaged intently in conversation.

Well, you've got a bit of a walk ahead of you. Now might be the ideal time to get to know someone a little better, or perhaps even pass the time with a little light flirting. But who?
