Michelle nods. "That'll feed their egos, at least. But the werewolves aren't going to like coming second to them." She glances at the ghost. "Renault, get the word around and tell them to meet us in the library. Tell them we've been given a job by Matron and Cavalcade—no arguments. Kan, let's get there too."

Renault floats idly through a wall, while you follow Michelle on the more pedestrian route up some stairs and down some corridors.
The library is empty, which at least gives you time to prepare yourself for what you'll say, specifically what you'll say to an audience with glowing red eyes and sharp fangs. Hopefully, they'll be willing to listen.
It's only a few minutes before the vampires themselves come filing in. Sonia shoulders her way to the front, gazing at you with a cynical look in her eyes.
You glance at Michelle, who gestures to the room's center. The floor is apparently yours.
"Well, we talked to Matron," you say. "And apparently we're dealing with something called a 'negative reality inversion.'"
The news is met by blank looks, which don't look any more encouraging when they come out of glowing red eyes.
"Basically, something's pushing its way into our reality." You take a deep breath. "We think, maybe, from hell. All that Matron was able to tell us now is that we need to find it, and then either they or Lady Rastan can take care of it."
"And why are we listening to a human on this?"
For a moment, you assume that the question has come from Sonia: it's certainly the type of question you've already come to expect from her. However, after a moment, it becomes clear that she hasn't spoken; it was the female vampire beside her, a pale blond. This one's tall and lanky, both features that are even more obvious when their owner is standing beside Sonia. You've never considered before what an awkward vampire might look like, but you're certainly looking at one now.
Awkward or not, the vampire doesn't shy away from your curious gaze, instead taking a step towards you. "You've been here since when, last week? So because you're a mortal, you're suddenly in charge?"
"And you've got something against a human being in charge…sorry, I didn't catch your name," you say.
"My name's Val," the vampire says. "And take your pick: the fragility, the short life span, your weakness, how slow you all are. Any of those."
