You nod in feigned sympathy, at the same time letting your gaze drift to a point behind Matron.
"Hey," you say, trying to make your voice sound concerned. "Is that supposed to be doing that?"
Matron turns, surprised. "Should what be doing what?"
As their back is turned, your hand whips out, snatching the Dark Detector up. You just manage to conceal it behind your own back before Matron turns around again.
"Nothing," you say. "False alarm."
Matron nods, a little distracted. "Fine," they say. "Well, as you can see, I've got a lot to deal with here. So, as you seem to have time to stand around and chat all day, why don't you look into the source of this vision for me? Any information that you bring back would be extremely appreciated, I assure you."
"So what happens if we do find something?" Michelle asks, finally levering herself off the wall she's been leaning against. "Vampires, werewolves, zombies, or whatever, we're still just schoolkids. Not exactly occult experts."
Matron waves a dismissive hand. "That does not matter. As long as I know precisely where the dark energy comes from, then I should be able to construct some solution." They hesitate before adding, in a slightly grudging tone, "Or ask Lady Rastan to do something about it."
