Aunt Cavalcade meets your gaze for several more seconds, then she looks away. "You've inherited your mother's insight, I see. At least that should serve you well here." She nods. "You're right: there is something that I want."
You nod, waiting to hear the rest of it.
"If Cavalcade Academy succeeds, it will be the first of several such institutions in the country," Aunt Cavalcade explains. "The undead and humankind will have more opportunities to mix together, and out of that coexistence will come understanding and, we can only hope, progress."
"And if it doesn't?" you ask.
"If it doesn't," Aunt Cavalcade repeats, "then it will have been a failed experiment, unlikely to be replicated in our lifetime. Barriers between humanity and the uncanny will not be torn down, even by the cannier members of either group. And as a consequence, whatever steps may have been taken towards unity may be lost forever."
