Chapter 1 - The Calm Before the Storm

I sat at my desk, half-listening to the droning voice of my teacher. It was just another ordinary day, or so I thought. The bright sunlight streamed through the classroom windows, casting a sense of tranquility that would soon be shattered.

Suddenly, chaos erupted outside the classroom walls. Panicked screams and the thunderous sound of running feet echoed through the hallways. The teacher's voice faltered, and the whole class turned their attention towards the door, confusion etched on their faces.

Without warning, the door swung open, revealing a scene of terror. Students sprinted in every direction, their terrified expressions mirroring the horrors they had witnessed. Blood stained the walls, and the guttural moans of the undead filled the air. Unbelievably, the dead had risen.

My heart raced, pumping adrenaline through my veins. I leaped to my feet, my mind struggling to comprehend the nightmare unfolding before me. Fear threatened to paralyze me, but deep within, a primal instinct urged me to survive.

I quickly surveyed the chaos outside through the window. The once-familiar schoolyard had transformed into a battleground of horror. The undead, with their rotting flesh and insatiable hunger, pursued the living relentlessly. It was a nightmare brought to life.

My classmates scattered, searching for safety wherever they could find it. I had a split second to decide—stay with the familiar, or venture into the unknown. The choice was clear. I had to escape.

Snatching up my bag, I sprinted towards the classroom door, my heart pounding in my chest. The hallways had become a labyrinth of danger, filled with desperate cries and the shuffling of undead feet. Each step was a dance with death, my senses hyper-alert to the slightest sound or movement.

Summoning every ounce of courage, I stepped out into the unknown. The world had forever changed, and I was just beginning to grasp the magnitude of the catastrophe that had befallen my city.

With each step I took, I made a silent vow—to fight, to survive against all odds. I had no idea what awaited me, but I was determined to face it head-on. The calm before the storm had ended, and my journey into a treacherous and unforgiving world had just begun.

I was ready to confront the unimaginable horrors, forge unexpected alliances, and search for answers in a world teeming with the undead.

The calm had shattered, and I, Kazuki Hayashi, was prepared to weather the storm.
