Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Waiting on a weapon

Cassie held a saddened smile stroking the giant cold hand with her own. "I'm here; I won't ever leave when you don't want me to, I promise.." she said, choking down any threatening tears. All the little blonde could think of was how much William wanted her to stay home that night to call in sick and stay.

She wondered if things would have been different if that one choice could have been the difference between where they are now and where they could have been.

Caught up in her self-loathing thoughts, the woman almost missed the slight twitch in her palm. At first, she wasn't even sure if it was real or if her longing heart was playing tricks on her mind. But after a few patient moments in which Cassie held her breath, Will's hand flexed again.

Cas couldn't contain herself, jumping up from the stool she'd been occupying, sending the metal seat clattering behind her to the floor.

"Will!! Will!! Come on; it's me; open your eyes; I'm right here !"

Conrad moved to place a hand on his sister's shoulder. Only to have the hand shrugged away.

"No, Con, he moved his hand; I felt it! Cassie protested before turning her attention back to the man she loved.

Conrad, however, glanced over at the observation window, noticing the slight narrowing of Eva's gaze at the monitors. For the woman to always school her features into a smile to hide her emotions, it meant something had to be wrong for her to let that slight twinge paint her parts.

The soldier looked back at his sister and how happy Cassie was. But at the same time, what he saw in Eva's eyes said something was wrong.

"Hey, sis? how about we get you some rest now that you know Will is doing better ." Conrad said through his signature smile, honestly believing his sister would go along with him.

It would be better if they waited and it ended on Eva's order to leave them; Cassie would think something was wrong with the man she loved. Conrad didn't want to drag her out of the room, kicking and screaming, or, worse, have to hurt his sister to subdue her to get them to safety.

However, Conrad underestimated the love his sister had for William. The man had become nearly everything to Cassie; she had told Will things she hadn't told anyone and visa versa. They were closer to each other than their brothers. Cassie had no intention of leaving Will now.

"What, no! Co,n I'm sorry, but I just can't. What if he wakes up and I'm not here...no..I won't leave ." Cassie's voice was soft, but the intention behind it was solid and absolute. She knelt, righting the stool, and sat back down, determined to stay by her lover's side.

Inside the La,b however, other plans were made as Eva pressed the intercom. This was what Conrad had hoped to avoid.

" Conrad, It is time for the end of the visit; you will both come out now." Eva tried her best to sound cheerful, but there was an edge in that statement that said more or less command.

"Cassie come on, just for a few minutes, ok? The Guys might need to do something here, and we would be in the way. I promise you can come back after, alright ?" Conrad placed a hand on her back, observing

"I'll be fine..you can go."

Well, this wasn't going as planned ... " Cassie ..we gotta go; I'm serious ." Conrad took the false happy-go-lucky nature out of his voice this time.

Cassie heard it; she knew her brother would force her out if she didn't comply. But she couldn't leave William, not yet; Conrad would have to forgive her later for what she was about to do ...as deceitful as it was.

"Alright, Con, I'm coming." She smiled, standing up, falling behind her brother, carefully putting a good pace between them.

Conrad was none the wiser, thinking he'd at least won this battle. Punching in the codes and taking the handle when the heavy steel door buzzed, Con walked through, assuming she was right behind him. That was until the door slammed with force when someone pushed it closed.

Conrad's eyes widened, and so did everyone in the observation room as Cassie shut the door between them and reached over, kicking up the brake wheels on one of the heavy machine's rolling it in front of the door once it was closed r,e-breaking the wheels.

"I'm sorry, Con." She whispered, hearing the muffled shouting from the other side of the door.

Cassie ignored the Buzz of the Intercom and Eva's voice telling her to "not do this " and to go with Conrad. She missed when her brother's angry voice came over the speaker telling her, " this wasn't a game " ...like she thought it was. Cassie knew it wasn't; nothing would change their minds as she sat back down next to the only person who had ever seen her. ....She wasn't going anywhere

-Inside the observation room-

"Damn it!" Conrad slammed his fist against the wall hard enough to chip the paint on the stone facade and break the skin on all his knuckles.

Eva Cringed a bit at the sick sound it made and the red smear on the wall. "Conrad... " She said, walking over and trying to calm the hot-tempered man.

While Con was arguably one of the nicest people you could ever meet, he had a side to him when agitated and often forgot his strength. He hissed and flexed his hand, it stung, but nothing was broken. "..babe..tell me the truth ...is she not safe in there ." His voice was Grimm, not even looking up at the woman in front of him.

"That...I do not know ." Eva sighed, dropping her shoulders and taking the man's injured hand.

"How many times must you attack the wall before you know the wall wins? " She smirked a bit, poking the tender flesh, making the soldier hiss and try to pull away from her iron grip.

"Oh shut up ...and that hurts. Don't poke it... tsk..sadist." Conrad looked away; his face screwed up in a pout.

"...so--somethings ha-happening .." Travis' shaky little voice popped up, causing both to look back at the observation window.

"...fu¢king Sh!t.." Conrad muttered, going for his gun to try and shoot out the glass.

"No! its bulletproof ricochet could kill one of us! Eva shouted at him, grabbing his arm to lower the weapon.

"I'm Not just going to stand here and watch my sister die
