Realizing it was now or never, Vito redirected his will towards the goal at hand. At a more friendly elevation, free from the unpredictable element that was the wind, Vito's scope found the space between the fish's eyes. Deftly, his fore finger closed in on the sensitive trigger, and just as he exhaled- he squeezed.
With undeniable pleasure, Vito watched with gratifying satisfaction as the aquatic beast took the hit between its eyes as thought it had taken the devastating blow of thirteen sledge hammer to the skull. The pudgy fish shuddered violently, and thrashed- but for a moment.
As it doubled over, right before its massive form crashed into the water, something that sounded like a terrifying squeal, escaped from its mouth, sealing its fate as a newly deceased beast.
Vito quickly peeled his gaze away from the fish's corpse that was now floating on the surface, and redirected it towards the girl.
The watery orb that been hovering three feet above the water, burst open the very moment the fish was struck. Having spent some time trapped with zero air, and nothing but water, the girl had lost consciousness already.
With the power holding her captive now broken, and she came crashing down to the water below.
Thankfully, the firm, bulky frame of the old man was right beneath her, his toned, muscled arms stretch out expectantly, and caught her. Thus preventing her from hitting the water at an unnatural angle that would have probably snapped her neck- or worse.
In impressive display of resilience and strength, the old man hoisted the girl's limp body in one hand, and with his free arm, he expertly threaded the now still water. His hardened face, twisted in a grimace, he doggedly fought his way towards the river bank, all the while struggling to keep both himself and the girl afloat.
The girl was still unconscious by the time he dragged her to the river bank.
Ignoring his own flailing strength, and heavy breathing, he promptly placed his palm on her head, and called out to her several times. Panicky, the old man realized that she was no longer breathing! His head swung around, searching with hawk like eyes for anyone that could help. But a pool of bodies floating aimlessly in the water behind him met his eyes. Every single one of his men were dead!
While the old man perseverated on his unenviable situation, the voice of a stranger behind him took him by surprise;
"Is she okay? Can I do anything to help?"
Despite Vito's calm tone, he somehow managed to elicit a very different response from the old man. With the deadly finesse of a viper, and with a cutthroat spontaneous reaction that was a direct result of many years of experience, the old man sprung to his feet immediately. Fire in his eyes, and spear in hand, he opened his mouth and accosted him with a string of inconprehensible words;
"Nì shi shuíˆ??? Ni láizi nâli?!"(Who are you? Where are you from?)
Vito immediately lifted up his hands in surrender;
"WHOA!! Easy there bud I mean no harm!!"
Once again, Vito's words had the exact opposite of his intended effect on the man. The man eyes flared dangerously as he took a step forward in a less than friendly manner. Brandishing his spear, and with that get-out-of-my-face-look, he addressed the strange looking young man before him in a deep threatening voice that was all but a growl;
"Xianzai likāi!!" (Get out now!) He took another daring step forward; "Xiànzäi likäi huò siwáng!!"(Get out now or die!)
Confused, Vito realized he had blindly rushed in here without the slightest preparation. As soon as he had confirmed his kill, he had bolted towards the old man and the girl, completely ignoring the blinking notification from the A.I system. And now, he was suffering the consequences. Killing the monster was the easy part. This right here was a hundred times harder.
The first and most shocking thing he noticed were the appearances of the old man and the girl- and the floating bodies in the river. He was taken aback when he saw that they were all Asian! Vito tried to narrow down their exact ethnicity, to triangulate the exact location, and ended up concluding that they were probably of Indo-Chinese sub-race. Their attire and weapons were consistent with that of the ancients.
And judging from the old man's startled expression, it was evident that he was not just wary for prudence sake, the old man was scared of his own appearance- he had obviously never seen a blue eyed, blonde, white Caucasian before.
Slowly, Vito lifted his hands higher up in the air. And even slower, he spoke in clear concise monotones;
"Sir...I absolutely mean you or the lady no harm..." He pointed to the fish with his left hand, and placed his right palm on his chest;
"I'm the one who popped that nasty fish. I have no intention of---"
Vito stopped talking when it became apparent to him that it was all for naught. The bland, distrusting look in the old man's eyes suggested that he still was not understanding a single word. Vito also realized he had not understood a single word either!
A glowing purple beacon popped up on his dashboard with a translator option;
[ULTRON TRANSLATE AVAILABLE: TAP TO ACTIVATE.]
Vito activated it, and immediately, he realized the old man had been speaking Chinese all this while.
[REQUEST PERMISSION TO ENABLE AUTO SPEECH TRANSLATE___]
Ultron, once again, proved its daunting god-like efficiency. With this new feature, Vitos speech and voice box had been altered. Thus, enabling him to be able to not just understand, but converse freely without the language barrier;
Sir, can you understand me now?
The old man's eyes squinted. Suspicion dogged the corner of his eyes;
"Ah, so you do speak the mother tongue after all? Do I need to tell you again to leave at once?"He clenched his spear tighter;
"Or perhaps you'd prefer to die first? Either way, your body is going to be removed."
Vito sighed. It seemed that no matter the language, the old man still spoke violence fluently;
"With all due respect, I don't think this is the time to be exchanging pointless words. That girl doesn't look so good . . ."
The old man tensed, and seemed to relax for a bit. Vito approached her still body and pointed;
"She's not breathing isn't she?"
The old man nodded affirmatively, and crouched till he was on the same ground level. Behind the mask of his distrusting, stoic countenance, the concern in his eyes could not be hidden. Vito came up to the still body and observed her
"She was submerged for over three minutes. . . she needs to be attended to right away."
"My men are all dead." He disclosed rather sorrowfully; "Along with our resident healer. There's no way we can get her back in time for a---"
"Never mind that," Vito cut in, "I can offer a practical solution right now. But we need to act quick. Here, help me lift her up. We need to get her to a level ground."
The old man heard the confidence the stranger's voice, and willingly complied at once. In three seconds, her body was hoisted up brought to a more desirable location. Then Vito shocked the old man with his next action.
The man had obviously never witnessed anyone perform CPR on a drowned person before. So, when Vito mounted the girl's unconscious body, and began to pump on her chestal area, a horrifying look streaked across the old man's hardened face. Confused, alarmed, he kept an eye on Vito, waiting for one small misstep that would seal the deal.
Of course, Vito did not know it at the time that he was being monitored like a hawk. So, with no other ulterior motive but to save the girl, Vito (still ontop of her with body hands on her chest), lowered his mouth to hers to give her artificial respiration.
Needless to say, that was the last straw that broke the camel's back. The old man's face went as black as thunder. Fury rose in his eyes like twin pillars of fire, he lunged at Vito with a vicious tackle;
"You treacherous creep! You dare to take advantage of her like that?!! IN MY PRESENCE?!!"
