[1st Person]
[Afternoon]
[7 Years Old]
Rune Everest, I love my name, it sounds really sophisticated, atleast to me. People seem to love saying my name, they always go "Fuck you, Rune!"
It's weird, I didn't know I had so many fans. They always make me feel happy when they say those words to me. I do feel curious about something, what does fuck mean? Since they love saying it to me, I kinda want to know what it means....
Anyway, let's go back to reality, the orphanage I'm staying at right now is a really good one, they give us food everyday, in the morning and in the evening, they let us have free time at the playground, and they teach us how to read and write. My only complaint about it is that every night, before we go to bed, they call one or two of us up to go talk to the orphanage leader or whatever they're called. Everytime they take people up there, when they come back down, the people cry themselves to sleep, and are rather closed off from us for a while before getting back to normal. Makes me want to know what they do up there...
Well, tomorrow is my turn to go up so I'll find out soon, today is my friends, Arthur's and Neil's turn.
"Wanna come play Grounders with me and Arthur?" Neil asked me, while I was thinking about them.
"Let's go, hurry!" I ran out to go play, Neil right behind me.
[The Next Morning]
As I look in the mirror, and rustle through my dark blonde hair, I think about what happened last night.
When Arthur came back from talking to the orphanage leader, he came back emotionless, with a bloody lip and a wound on his back, it looked like he was whipped or something, I didn't think this orphanage would do that, I remember what it felt like to be whipped, my father did that to me everyday until he died. I feel like I forgot something though, it feels like I forgot something very important.
Oh! Neil, I didn't ask Arthur about Neil! It was weird because Arthur was the only one to come back from talking to the orphanage leader. Anyway, where's Arthur, so I can ask him where Neil went.
"Arthur, where are you..." I asked, while looking through his room
"Arrrthurrrr" I asked while going through Neil's room
"Where's Arthur? He's not in the normal spots..." I asked one of our friends
"I'll look around the orphanage, you look around the field to make sure" That friend of ours said, while running to the orphanage and looking for Arthur
I looked all throughout the field, and couldn't find him, there was only one place I didn't check yet, the tree we never go to because it looks so haunted.
"Arthur, are you here..." I said, shivering
"I'm sorry, Neil" I heard sniffling, and barely heard that sentence.
Who's talking, and why would they say that, Neil isn't gone, he didn't get adopted, I think, and he definitely didn't die, this orphanage is too safe for that...
"Hello?" I said, getting closer to the sniffling noises, then I stopped hearing the noises..
"Hello?" I was right behind the noise now, it was just infront of me, why did they stop crying though?
"He-" I saw Arthur, he wasn't saying anything, he was just looking at me, I looked at him and noticed the tears streaming down his face, and his fingernails had soil in them
I looked to the ground, and I saw the only belonging of Neil's, his dead moms necklace, halfway covered in soil, he never took it off his neck, so how in the world did Arthur have it.
"What's going on Arthur?" I said, dreading what would probably be true, Neil was-
"-Dead. He's dead. I saw it with my own eyes" Arthur said, tears pouring down his face.
