Chapter 25 - Chapter 23: Elisha and That Promise 1

Girls Exclusive Dormitory

Lately there is something in my mind and I can't seem to get it off my head.

Sitting at the round tea table at my veranda, I stare at the evening sight. The weather is cold and the atmosphere it creates is quite gloomy. Somehow, it adds to the frustration that I was feeling. Just when the two of them got that close?!

That idiot of a Gleren, how dare he let someone other than I, Elisha von Courtenay get close to him! We-well, it's not like I want him to talk to me, okay?! It's not like I want him to think of me, okay?! Its just… somehow, when I see him talk to other girls my heart feels tight. Even though he promised to be with me all the time… he forgotten about me and went off to get close to other girls!

Furthermore, they were not just any other girls! It's miss Yamada Reina and miss Varvara Gauthier that we're talking about! Those two are elites with ranks befitting of their becoming. How did he even get close to both of those girls? Sigh…

I have no prospect of competing with Miss Yamada. She is at the top of her class, and her ability is also ranked as SR. Plus, she's almost too lovely to be true! Her beautiful black silky hair, which waves as she walks. Her lovely slanted brown eyes. Her pointed nose befitting of her beautiful slim face and her enticing pinkish lips that's as if the color of cherry blossoms in full bloom. Her body style is similar to that of models. What kind of peak flower may she be?! I, myself, am a beautiful girl in her own right. It's embarrassing to say, but as the daughter of aristocrats, I can only be beautiful. I suppose it's a natural born responsibility?

That said, I admit I cannot win against miss Yamada in many terms, but as a nobles' daughter I cannot loss either. Well, i-it's not like I want to win over that guy or anything, okay?! Yes, it's just my pride that's speaking! Yep, that's it.

On the contrary, miss Gauthier is a lowkey person. Unlike miss Yamada, her appearance, is, what can I say… she lacks effort for it? She has a beautiful chestnut colored hair yet it was tied in a way that's too unappealing—braided twin tail. Her eyes are always hidden behind her glasses that is way too thick for a girl her age. I just can't get an appeal out of her. However! Yet, between her and miss Yamada, she was closer to that stupid Gleren! I can't seem to ignore that fact. The way the two of them talk to each other is suspicious too. And what's more, she can tell how good that Gleren is and understands how his ability works. Among us, she is the top player. No! That's not it! I am not even aiming for that guy!

Yes. That person is vexing! He's naive and foolish. He's constantly grinning and letting others say anything they want about him. He's always talking back, and the manner he does it irritates me a great deal. He has a sharp tongue that can annoy everyone. Nonetheless, he is extremely kind to those who are close to him. He's overly protective and overly concerned. He's irresponsible, yet he's kindhearted, especially to his sister. True, he is really aggravating... yet no matter what I do, I can't seem to be angry with him. That stupid Gleren, how dare he forget about our promise—about me…

I was sighing in exasperation as the dreary spring air caressed my skin. It was chilly yet pleasant. The lights that illuminate the yard in front of the hostel sent the petals of flowers blown by the winds right to my teacup. I felt nostalgic for my youth as it drifted over the tea. A memory that I keep as a treasure in my heart.

It was one summer of my very young mind. The sunflower flourished and draped the plains in yellow, like curtains for a summer vista. The dandelions danced as the warm breeze whispered through the tranquil scene. I was on vacation with my parents in the remote region of England that our family owned.

The villa that we owned was built exclusively for enjoyment, thus every view of the property is nothing short of breathtaking. Surrounding the house are lovely flowerbeds. Seasonally appropriate, playful decorations. Tress elegantly adorned with figurines of birds such as cranes surrounds the fountain in front of the residence. Truly, it was wonderfully picturesque.

Thatday , we had guests it would seem. Aside from our family we had another three prominent households to accommodate. We have many rooms and the villa is huge too, so we don't have to worry about their lodgings. Among the families we cater we have the Yamada, Stasis, and Windsor. I heard that the Yamada family came from other country, a foreign friend my father made from his work. The other, two seems familiar but I don't know any of them.

Eventually, guests were sorted into groups based on their interests. My father and his friends went fishing at a neighbouring lake. My mother and her friends were discussing intricate topics such as embroidery, flower arranging, and cookery. I was left alone.

With my own and my ennui, I urged myself to leave for the forest behind the villa. I wandered about taking in the views. Nature is extremely delightful, from the flowers to the bugs to the birds to the trees. Then, while I was flitting about, I noticed a lovely butterfly. Its wings were painted in a variety of colours, and every time it flapped its wings, glitter fell on its path. It was so lovely that I ended up following it. As though mesmerized, I kept walking and walking with no concern in the world until the butterfly vanished, leaving me befuddled. That's when I realized I had no idea where I am. I was disoriented in the midst of nowhere.

As a child, I was naturally panicked. I mean, I was only a small child at the time, and I was lost in the midst of a forest with no idea where I was. I was terrified, and when I realised I wouldn't make it home, I sobbed on the spot, not moving at all. When I was in a fearful moment, I heard a rustle on the bushes nearby. Hope had not abandoned me. To think that I would be lucky enough to meet people here!

When I was full of optimism, I looked towards the bush to see who had come to help me, only to see a bear that was five times bigger than I was. I was left with nothing else. My eyes widened at the sight of the bear, and I trembled so violently on the spot that I couldn't even speak. The bear was enormous, and it was snarling at me, a young child. I have no chance of maintaining my composure in the situation. I made an attempt to move, but it was impossible since my feet were glued to the ground. I felt completely hopeless.

The beast eventually moved in my direction, poised to pounce, as it had gotten impatient. But just as it got close to me, a stone flung itself in its direction and struck the bear square in the forehead. The action of throwing was so clumsy that the animal wasn't even injured. However, it was sufficient to divert the bear from attacking me. Then, just as the bear was beginning to wonder where that rock had come from, a voice that sounded just like it had come from a little child was heard,

"Don't come near her, you stupid bear!"

On my right side, not too far away, I noticed a young boy. He was smaller than I was, but his eyes showed no sign of fear; instead, he was grinning and tempting the bear to turn towards him.

"I'm here! Come this way you stupid animal! HAHAHA!"

He then took off running into the woods, and the bear followed him exactly as he had supposed to. The bear appeared to have become so enraged by him that it ran straight for him while entirely disregarding me. All of the tension left my body when I realised the imminent danger was over, and now I can feel my strength dwindling. After being completely relieved, I suddenly fall unconscious, and I have no idea what happened next.
