Chapter 1 - FLAMES OF PASSION

CHAPTER ONE: THE UGLY INCIDENT

Sandy turned round for the third time and quivered with fear. Was that a sound she heard again?. That persistent sound drawing closer as she took quick and very light steps, gradually nearing her destination. Her heart began to pound and she let out a heavy but low and yet painful breath. She was becoming more and more frantic and weak with fear and wild crazy thoughts. Her hormones were racing with a surge of adrenaline to all parts of her body giving in to her frequent palpitation and weakness. She couldn't think of anything else aside the danger lurking by. Everything was shattering inside her and, mostly left nothing of her courage. Slowly, with a mix of instilled fear and building nerve, she grabbed a large piece of her ankle-sized velvet dress at the side by the right and lifted it up to create a reasonable distance between her legs to ease her escape from her nighttime attacker. Her legs were hurting from the continual unsteadiness of her stiletto heels and her toes ached to be free from the tension it was producing. She stepped on small stones lying on her way and she nearly went off balance and almost toppled over. In the dark, she groped for her mini satchel which had slipped off her shoulder to the ground and luckily felt the soft fluffy texture of the straps and got hold of it. The sounds of solid yet gentle footsteps came up behind her, so close that she couldn't dare to release the gasp that was threatening to force its way out of her mouth. Her next thought was to take to her heels and run for her dare life but she felt motionless standing on the empty pathway in the dark, dreadful night with a stranger close by and her life in impending danger. She started to feel him strangle her from behind and fear gripped her once more. There she was, already screaming and flailing her hands in the air. First it was her neck, then he pulled her hair and pushed her to the floor. She yelled out loud and tore up. All these happened in the space of two minutes and the next counting minute was going to see her to her death. Lord! She cried out to God and looked up to the sky like she was looking up to heaven...Snap out of it. That was only her imagination. She was sure it was definitely going to be a man out at this time of the night tracking and following her from God knows where and for how long he had been and is going to because at this point, she was going to kick the life out of him if he tried to brutalize her. For crying out loud, what was he up to?? Her heart was bleeding fear and pain for the unknown about to happen to her. Obviously he was up to no good and she couldn't find a better answer to her curiosity as she instantly felt his growing presence invading her space from behind. Her exposed arms and back began to feel cold and her whole body started to collapse from the deadly sensation. The man behind her was not ready to make a move or aim for her but she was already feeling faint and defeated. Turning to get a view of the person who was going to ruin her life at any moment before her end time approached, a gust of violent wind blew over them unexpectedly and she felt a rush of cold hit her face hard. She waited to hear a fall as she tottered and made for the ground. Her eyes flew open as she realized she was still on her feet and not just by herself but assisted by her supposed killer. She was in the arms of her "killer" and it scared her as much as her imagination did a short while ago.
