Porcelain skin, long wavy pure-diamond blond hair and average height, were one of the deciding factors that made Maria an unforgettable beauty. Coupled with her sea blue eyes, pink bow-shaped lips and hourglass figure, she was one that could be desired by most men when it came to beauty. Her temperament wasn't bad either which made it easy for people to get along with her.
Maria was currently laying on her bed staring at the ceiling with no intention of standing up. Suddenly, her phone rang on the nightstand and she lazily sat up and picked up the phone. She stared at it for a while due to the unknown number displayed on the screen and fear gripped her before she took deep breaths and answered the call
"Hello? Who is it?" she asked and the person over the phone seemed to sigh in relief
"And here I was afraid you wouldn't pick up the call because it was an unknown number" the person said with a chuckle "Sorry about that. But, am I speaking with Maria McKinley?"
"Yes...can I help you with something?"
"My wife is in labour and I need someone to watch my twins" the person said in a hurry
"Who is this?" she asked
"Oh. Mark Page" the person said nonchalantly "I'll introduce myself later. I'm kind of in a hurry. I'll send you the address now. Sorry, bye" the person said before hanging up the phone
The buzzing sound resounded in Maria's ears as she brought the phone away and stared at it until a message appeared. It had the whole address, down to the colour of the house and the colour of the gate.
"Is this guy afraid I'll get lost on my way there?" Maria mumbled as she put the phone in her pocket, put on some sandals and walked to the door. She pulled out her key and left her apartment immediately after locking it.
She took the stairs and after arriving outside of the apartment complex, she hailed a taxi.
"Where are you headed to, Miss?" the driver asked as she got in and shut the door. She showed him the address on her phone which made the man gulp before driving.
While the driver was driving, Maria was using her phone to track the GPS location of the address given to her but when she saw the location, her brows furrowed. It was going to be a fifty-eight minute drive from her location to Mark's place. She turned off the phone and placed it in her pocket while staring out the window.
It was a long drive but, at long last, she had arrived at her location.
'This is probably the wrong address' Maria thought as she stared at the black and gold gates
"Are you sure this is the right address?" Maria asked the driver
"Miss, it's what you showed me" the driver said "It's one of the few mansions here in Mill Neck, New York..." he paused for a while before saying "....It's also the biggest"
Speechless. That was the one word Maria would use to describe her reaction right now.
"Miss...may I know who you came to meet here?" the driver asked "Maybe you could give the person a call" he said as Maria got off the taxi and paid the driver
"Honestly, I have no idea who the heck I'm meeting" Maria said "The guy only told me his name and gave me the address because I'm meant to babysit his twins while he heads to the hospital with his wife who's in labour" she said and the driver silently started the taxi before driving off.
Maria stood rooted to the ground as she tried to wrap her head around what was going on. Through the gates, she could see vast greenery, a fountain, a large snow coloured mansion, some luxurious cars and....ambulances.
She brought out her phone and checked the address again but it was still the same. She was about to call Mark when the gate opened and a man dressed in a butler's outfit stepped out with his hands behind his back.
He had dark golden brown hair, with a few gray hairs that were combed back neatly. Brown eyes which looked stern but had a gentleness to it, a few wrinkles and an aura that extruded elegance.
"Miss Maria...I presume?" the man asked questioningly
"Y-Yes. That's me"
"We have been anticipating your arrival" the man said "I am the head butler, Frank. Please follow me" he added as he turned around and headed back through the gate.
Maria followed behind him closely and after walking through the gates, she shut them. She was so nervous, she began to look around.
The grasses and trees were green this time of year. And the fountain at the center really made the place look more grandeur.
"Is the place to your liking?" Butler Frank asked
'How did he know I was looking around?' she thought. "It's really beautiful. I wonder if I can get a place like this someday"
"This place only costs forty-nine million dollars. It's too cheap" Butler Frank said
'Did you just say 'only' to forty-nine million dollars? More importantly, did you just call here cheap?' Maria shouted in her head as she raised an eyebrow 'Not even my wages I earn everyday are enough to buy this house' she sighed 'Mr Mark sure is lucky'
Maria looked around some more only to notice the paramedics were staring at her. There was even a male one who almost dropped his cup of coffee when her eyes glanced at him. It was a small glance but the man was still standing there speechless and to Maria, he seemed surprised to see her.
"Butler Frank?" Maria called out and he halted
"Yes, Miss?"
"Why are there several ambulances parked outside?"
"They're waiting for the Master and the Madam to come down"
"Isn't one or two good enough?"
"True, but the others are staying here.....just in case" Butler Frank said and he continued on walking
'Just in case? What's that supposed to mean?' Maria thought as she continued following him.
They climbed up a few steps and Butler Frank was about to open the mansion doors when they were suddenly pushed open from inside and a certain man stood there.
"I've been waiting for you for the passed one hour" the man said with a sigh "What took you so long Maria?" he asked with his nerves finally calming down.
The man had light ash blonde hair cut in a side parted long, a rare pair of green eyes and an average build with a tall stature.
"You must be Mr Mark" Maria giggled "I'm sorry for wasting time. But my house is pretty far from here"
"I see" Mark said while scratching the back of his neck "I'm Mark Page by the way"
"Maria McKinley" Maria said "Reporting for duty"
"Well, your task here....might be pretty difficult" Mark said
"How old are they?" Maria asked
"Who?"
"You said my task was difficult. So I'm asking, how old are the twins?"
"Oh. They're seven" Mark said "Frank, show her around the place or send someone to do that"
"Yes, Sir" Butler Frank said
"Paramedics" Mark shouted "You can move her now. We're ready" he said and the paramedics got to work immediately. Mark then turned to Maria "Come with me" he said as he walked off while Maria followed behind him.
Looking around the mansion, Maria could see the numerous expensive paintings, sculptures and vases.
'One of those probably costs as much as my two arms and legs' Maria thought as she was led to a large wooden door
"Beyond this door...." Mark sighed "....Well, you'll figure it out yourself" he mumbled as he opened the door to the living area. After he walked in, Maria followed behind him closely while Butler Frank stood outside of the room.
'Wow. Beautiful people really do marry each other' Maria thought as she stared at the pregnant woman sitting with a boy and girl that looked the same age.
"Maria, meet my wife, Vivian and out two kids, Dan and Cia" Mark said while standing behind Vivian with his hands on her shoulder
Vivian was a woman with straight long caramel hair and amber eyes. Her proportions were perfect even though she was pregnant and technically speaking, to Maria, she didn't look like a woman in labour
"Mark, why did you hire a babysitter?" Vivian asked "I thought you promised no more" she sighed "Anyways, it's nice to met you, Maria" she said as she calmly got up from the sofa when she saw the paramedics "Please take care of the children" she said while glaring at Mark
Mark smirked "Well, my lovely wife and I will be off now" he was about to help Vivian when she nudged him in the gut and walked ahead
"I don't need help" Vivian said "I'm not weak"
'It's clear you're not weak ma'am' Maria thought 'A normal woman in labour would need the help of her husband or friend to move about. Heck, they'd wince in pain. But you, I'm left speechless by your every action' she stood and watched Mark and Vivian leave with the paramedics before she turned her attention towards Dan and Cia
"So..."
"Why don't we show you around the place" Cia suggested with a smile
"This place is pretty fun" Dan added however, Butler Frank had a few words to say
"Young master, Young mistress, I'll show Miss Maria around"
"Old man Frank..." Dan started
"...Your bones are too old and you must be tired" Cia said "We're simply being considerate"
"I..."
"Butler Frank, don't worry too much" Maria said "I promise you I'll take good care of the children
" Yes, Miss Maria" Butler Frank said in defeat before leaving the living area.
"So, where are we headed to first?" Maria asked as she walked over to the twins
"There's a garden out back" Dan said
"It has several beautiful flowers and trees with fresh fruits" Cia said as she jumped off her seat while pulling Dan "This way. Follow us" she said and Maria shook her head before silently following them
'My task seems easy' Maria thought 'If they continue to behave like this, then things will surely turn out alright at the end of the day' she glared intensely at the twins 'But, Mr Mark's words and also Butler Frank's attitude, make me suspicious of these twins'
.....
Now, I'm not really one to be writing this shit....but, oh well😑
😊 My Heart Is Yours, is one of my first books that focuses more on city life and all that shit. It's pure Urban Romance or....something like that.
When I started writing it in a notebook two months ago, I simply gave it the title 'Long Time No See'. Horrible name, right?😏
Oh well, the story has many twists and turns and I'm gonna mess with your imagination a bit. You'll surely enjoy the many hidden surprises I have.
Vote if you like...or love and try to comment so I'll know where to improve.
