Chapter 3 - School is out

With the stall door barricaded, Elijah caught his breath, the aftermath of the brief struggle lingering in the air. As he surveyed the restroom cautiously, his attention was drawn to an unexpected glow emanating from his phone. The screen flickered, glitched for a moment, before transforming into a peculiar graphical user interface. A series of dynamic icons materialized on the phone's display, resembling a survival game HUD. Startled, Elijah stared at the screen, unsure if it was a glitch or something far more surreal. The words "Escape and Survive" flashed in bold letters, accompanied by a countdown timer ticking away ominously.

"The fuck is this?? Escape and survive what kind of sick bullshit is this!" Elijah whispered, with confusion and disbelief etched across his face, Elijah hesitated before cautiously tapping one of the icons. The interface responded with a map overlay, revealing the layout of the school and marking key locations. Arrows pointed towards an exit, urging him to navigate through the labyrinthine corridors.

As Elijah processed the surreal situation, looking at the screen again it said, "Escape protocol initiated. Zombies detected in vicinity. Time to evacuate: 2 days." His pulse quickened as the gravity of the situation sank in. The restroom had become a temporary safe zone, but beyond its confines, the undead awaited. The leveling system, it seemed, had transformed into a real-life quest for survival. Driven by the urgency of the interface and the impending onslaught of zombies, Elijah gathered his wits, slinging the backpack over his shoulder and clutching the metal pipe. The surreal blend of technology and horror spurred him into action as he opened the restroom door, the ominous countdown guiding his every move. The once-familiar school had transformed into an eerie battleground. Elijah navigated through dimly lit corridors, the glowing interface leading him towards escape routes while alerting him to approaching threats. The daunting reality of this unexpected game of survival unfolded, and Elijah braced himself for the challenges that awaited him beyond the restroom's relative safety.

As Elijah ventured further into the labyrinthine corridors, he couldn't shake the unsettling feeling that the very structure of the building had transformed in response to the impending zombie onslaught. The interface displayed a chilling message: "Building Designation: High Zombie Activity Zone." Elijah glanced around, noticing subtle changes in the environment. Once pristine and sterile school now bore signs of struggle – overturned furniture, smudges of blood, and ominous shadows cast by flickering lights. The air grew heavier with each step, and distant moans echoed through the desolate hallways. The glowing icons on the interface guided him toward stairwells and emergency exits, urging him to ascend or descend in a relentless pursuit of escape. Every corner turned revealed the grim aftermath of the evolving apocalypse, with remnants of the living now replaced by the encroaching undead. The building seemed to respond dynamically to the changing threat level. Safe zones were marked as sanctuaries amidst the chaos, while areas with high zombie activity were glaringly labeled, prompting Elijah to proceed with caution. It was as if the very architecture had adapted to the unfolding nightmare, becoming a macabre game board with Elijah as an unwitting player. As he navigated through the eerily transformed school, Elijah couldn't escape the realization that survival meant deciphering the rules of this twisted game. The interface served as his lifeline, its digital guidance merging seamlessly with the nightmarish reality outside the restroom. Each step forward carried the weight of uncertainty, and the once-familiar building now stood as a haunting testament to the relentless march of the undead.

The air grew thicker as he ascended a stairwell, guided by the glowing arrows. The unsettling silence of the stairwell was periodically interrupted by the distant groans of the undead echoing through the concrete structure. The interface blinked, revealing a new message: "Find Shelter - Evacuate Floor." Elijah's eyes darted across the screen as he noticed an icon indicating a room marked as a temporary shelter. It seemed like a brief respite amidst the chaos, and he hurried towards the designated location, the anticipation of what awaited inside building with every step. Upon reaching the shelter, Elijah cautiously pushed open the door. The room was dimly lit, with makeshift barricades hinting at past struggles. A small group of survivors huddled in one corner, their eyes reflecting a mix of fear and exhaustion. The leveling system, it appeared, had not only altered the physical dynamics of the building but also defined the ebb and flow of the survivor community.

"Your not gonna hurt us are you?" Said one of the survivors cowering in fear it seems Elijah have been taken aback by his unique appearance. Elijah was born antlers he does not know the reason why to this, Elijah could feel the cold stare and the judgemental eyes piercing through him.

Elijah, still grappling with the surreal reality of the situation, a woman pointed to a corner where supplies were stockpiled – water, non-perishable food, and basic medical supplies. The survivors shared wary glances, silently acknowledging the unspoken truth that their safety was temporary, and the outside world was a constant battleground. I'll just take some things and go staying in a group is like courting with death, I doubt any of them would help because of how I am different to them Elijah thought. The interface flickered, prompting Elijah to prepare for the next leg of his escape. The survivors exchanged somber glances, realizing that the leveling system had not only changed the rules of survival but had also forged an unspoken camaraderie among those facing the relentless onslaught of the undead. With a newfound sense of determination, Elijah geared up and took supplies, readying himself to navigate the building's ever-shifting landscape. The game of survival continued, and the Elijah ventured back into the darkened corridors, guided by the glowing icons that dictated their every move in this nightmare turned reality.
