Chapter 9 - chapter 9 - The komodo dragons

When he first saw them, he got a bit intimidated. In his mind, they were only some one and a half meter reptiles, but the truth shocked him: they were three meter long monsters that seemed bigger and more aggressive than the images he saw on forums or in real life images.

But still, this was understandable, as he hadn't seen them with something he could reference them, although he still wanted to go with his plan, so he started.

He found his first victim. This would probably only work if only one komodo dragon was targeted, but luckily for him, they are territorial animals that don't like companionship, so that was the easy part.

He also made sure to be facing the opposite direction, and then, making as little noise as he could, he started crawling under the sun.

The sand here was pretty hot, but his lizard scales had a slight resistance to fire, so that wouldn't be a problem.

He was around 200 meters from his target, and it wasn't moving, so that was a good sign, Igor thought.

At around 50 meters, he thought about standing up, as he had no way of dealing damage down there, but he remembered something, and that was that he could attack with his fire breath, so he continued.

Everything was going smoothly until, at around 10 meters, the komodo dragon just turned around and started to chase after him!

-Hey! Why would I know that you had a decent smell? Oh wait, it did appear in an article I read… Well, this strategy no longer works, I guess.

Igor then mumbled to himself about this error while trying to stand up from the sand and escape the attack from the lizard.

He thankfully succeeded to dodge, and instantly counterattacked by using his fire breath, which dealt a disappointing 5% DMG on its first blow, so double after the burn had finished.

The beast then wanted to attack him, as it got a sudden boost in speed that Largon didn't expect, so he just barely parried the claw attack it had done.

After it, the komodo dragon tried to attack another time with its claws, and this time he landed it, so Largon got a 25% HP loss.

He wondered if he had to use scale armor, but he figured he could adapt to the enemy's fighting style, so he just kept it as an open possibility if things got worse, as the cooldown was quite high.

The komodo dragon tried attacking again, but this time he used his mouth. Largon knew that if he was hit by it, he would most probably die, as the venom would immobilize him, so he played it safe and dodged.

He expected another linked attack like last time, but it seemed like he didn't attack another time if his first attack was with his mouth. This gave Largon an attack pattern he could look after and abuse.

The komodo dragon was certainly fast, and he demonstrated it as he went for another hit for the third time.

It went with the mouth, so Largon swiftly dodged, and knowing his opponent wasn't going to attack him, he counterattacked instead.

This strike was successful, as he saw the enemy's bar deplete by 10%, and he smiled after seeing the damage.

The komodo dragon then went for a claw attack, so when Largon dodged, it obviously went for another hit, as it had worked for the monster last time, but this time Largon was prepared, as he dodged it.

Largon then found out that the opponent's mind was very simple, as it seemingly only had two attacks, and on one of them he could get some damage dealt to the komodo dragon.

This strategy worked until the komodo dragon got to 30% HP and it got the 'enraged' status effect. This gave him a slight strength and speed boost, as his rage was making the komodo dragon push his limits to the max, or that was the game's logic.

This put an end to his strategy when, after doing the bite attack, the komodo dragon attacked another time, and the unprepared Largon got a 30% HP loss.

The damage boost did seem to matter, as his health depleted 5% more. He now had to be careful, as he was at 45% health.

He was now thinking about how he could damage the komodo dragon, as it was now just a bit out of reach, and he still didn't want to use his scale armor.

He then thought that if the komodo dragon had pushed itself to the limit, then why wouldn't he do that as well.

He thought that if he concentrated enough, he could counterattack when the monster attacked a second time, so he put his theory to the test.

The komodo dragon attacks with its claws, trying to land a strike. Largon blocks it, not letting that happen. The beast tries to counterattack with another strike. Largon dodges and immediately flings his sword towards it. The komodo dragon blocks.

"Frick, that was close, though."

He was about to try again, when he realized he had a fire breath available, so he uses it when the komodo dragon attacks.

"10% HP remains, how hard could that be."

He tries to do the same thing, and when it's his turn, he puts all his energy into being fast enough to hit him, and he manages to do so at last.

"YEEEAH"

Largon shouts when he realizes his energy is at 5%, so he decides to go back. This was the right decision, as his victorious scream had attracted more komodo dragons.

After a long break, Igor decided to continue his hunt, as the komodo dragon he had killed only dropped 3 claws.

This was hard enough, but the process thankfully had not changed much, apart that he could now pretty easily also deal damage when they were on the claw attack in the first phase as they didn't have the speed boost.

This made it so that Largon didn't drain his energy as much.

After two more kills, he got a 4 claw drop and a 2 claw drop.

-Oh welp, i guess i'll have to kill one more, as i have 9 claws.

This thankfully didn't take long, as he was over it after just 5 minutes, getting 2 claws over, and he also got one more level. He decided to boost his defense so that it would be even. His stats now were:

Stats: 8 STR 6 DEF 6 DEX 6 ENG

Then he took the long walk back to the newbie village. This took him the same amount of time, but because he was mentally tired from the hunt, it seemed to him like it was longer.

The little fights in between also didn't help, but they gave him some loot.

This reminds me that Largon also got another item from defeating the komodo dragons…
