Chapter 40 - Chapter 40

"Well...that's one problem solved. We still have another one." said Derek, looking towards Linda.

All this time, Linda stood in a corner in complete shock. She could not move, as though she was paralysed.

All this information was too much for her to digest. Soon, Linda dropped to her hands and knees.

"Son, now you own your previous company. What do you want to do with her?" asked Peter.

"I don't know, dad. I think that is for this company's new CEO to decide." replied Derek, before looking towards Wayne. "What say you, Wayne?"

"CEO? Me? Brother Derek...that's too much. I'm not worthy." said Wayne, in shock of Derek's surprise announcement.

"Wayne. Bro." said Desmond as he placed his hand on Wayne's shoulder. "I didn't think I was worthy to be Head of Security for Quinton Consortium. Brother Derek saw something in me to assign me that role."

"Wayne, if my boss sees something in Desmond to make him Head of Security, he certainly sees something in you to be CEO." said Kimberly.

Wayne looked around at the people looking back at him with affirmed looks on their faces. They all agreed with Derek's decision.

"Brother Derek, if you trust me that much, then I accept your offer to be CEO of this company. I will do you proud." said Wayne, humbled by the appointment.

"Yay, I'm dating a CEO!" Kimberly said in joy as she hugged on to Wayne's arm.

"Wait....since when..." began Derek.

"Sorry, boss. I meant to tell you earlier." said Amanda. "Kimberly took a liking to Wayne when she visited him at the hospital. I guess the feeling is mutual for Wayne."

"Well well well....imagine the irony." said Desmond, turning his attention to Linda.

"That's right, Linda." said Wayne turning his attention to his ex. "You threw my love for you away like trash. You mocked me and called me a loser. Well the tables have definitely turned. Therefore, my first act as the new CEO is this. Linda, YOU'RE FIRED!"

"NOOOOOOO!!!!!" Linda shrieked as she tried ro crawl towards Wayne, obviously wanting forgiveness from Wayne.

Amanda was not having it. She lined herself up ready to handle Linda; but before she could respond, Kimberly stepped in front of Wayne and gave Linda a vicious kick to her face.

"Kimberly! That was my move!" said Amanda, pouting.

"I learn well, Ms Amanda. Hehe." replied Kimberly before facing Linda with an icy stare.

"You heard what he said, you b**** sl**!! As long as I'm around, you will not go anywhere near Wayne! So get the hell out of here, before OUR security gang comes back in and drag your sorry a** out!" shouted Kimberly, her face still cold as ice.

"And who knows what that gang will do to you as well. One thing is for sure, we don't want to picture it." added Wayne.

Derek could only palm his forehead and chuckle. "Oh man! Talk about having a sense of deja vu. Doesn't this scene look familiar, Owen?"

"It sure does, Young Quinton." replied Owen with a smile.

"Well? What are you waiting for Linda? Do you really want to be dragged out of here?" asked Desmond.

Linda knew there was no point fighting on. She stood up, holding her bloodied face thanks to Kimberly's kick and walked out of the office.

As she was walking away, Kimberly left her one final message.

"You called Wayne a loser....Who's the loser now?!?"

Everyone laughed out loud as Linda made her exit; but as Linda made her way to the pavement, she turned around with a vengeful look before walking away.

'Just you wait, Wayne. This is not over. I will make you and your b**** pay. I will be back.' Linda cursed in her mind.

Several minutes later, Peter, Derek, Amanda, Owen, Desmond, Kimberly and Wayne stepped locked the office up and made their way out.

"So...can someone explain to me how Kimberly and Wayne are hitched?" asked Derek.

"I thought Amanda had already explained it." said Peter.

"I know, dad. I'm just still in disbelief." replied Derek.

"I still can't believe you are actually a Quinton, Derek....or should I say, boss." said Wayne.

"Wayne, call me boss when you are inside the Quinton Tower. Outside of that building, just call me by name." replied Derek.

"Thanks, brother. I never thought I have a second chance to make things right...not to mention have a beautiful woman by my side too." said Wayne as he embraced Kimberly to his side.

"Ok lovebirds, let's get out of here. You have the whole of tomorrow to get all lovey-dovey before getting back to work on Monday." said Amanda.

Amanda, Wayne and Kimberly then walked to Amanda's car and drove off; but not before saying their goodbyes to the rest of the people.

As Derek watched Amanda's car drive off, he then felt a hand on his shoulder. Turning around, he saw Desmond. standing beside him.

"Brother, don't you think it's time you started dating too?" Desmond asked Derek.

"Seriously, Desmond? First my parents, now you?" said Derek.

Desmond replied, "Look bro, I know you're my boss and all, but as a friend, I'm telling you, you deserve to have a woman by your side."

"Think about it, because of you, Wayne and I have the chance to turn our lives around; and we were able to find love in the process."

"You've done so much good for so long, It's time you reach and get what you deserve too; and if my guess is right, I think you know that someone among us is waiting for you to reach out to her."

"Don't wait too long, brother." concluded Desmond before patting Derek's shoulder a couple more times and leaving the scene with Owen.

For once, Derek was speechless. He didn't want to admit it but he knew...Desmond was not wrong.

"Time to head home, son." said Peter.

"Yeap, it's time, dad." replied Derek. Both father and son returned home via their Rolls Royce.

'It's time indeed.' Derek thought to himself.

Amanda just had a hot shower after reaching back into her penthouse. She was about to head to bed when her phone chimed; there was a message.

She took her phone to read the message. As she read it, her face went red....with happiness. The message was from Derek.

'Hi Amanda. Sorry to text you this time of the night. About that date after the dinner event, can we have that date tomorrow night? Let's cap off a wonderful week together before heading back to work on Monday.'

Amanda didn't waste any time. She texted back to Derek, 'Yes. I would love to. It's a date. See you tomorrow night.'

Derek received Amanda's reply with a smile on his face. Both of them went to bed happy. Tomorrow night could not come soon enough.
