Derek had spent enough time in the restroom speaking to Desmond, his ex-colleague. A sense of unease crept up to him after hearing Desmond's story and he needed to bring it up when he rejoined his family back in Chef Marcel's restaurant.
Derek was so deep in thought on his way back to the restaurant that he didn't hear a voice calling out from behind him.
"Hey Derek. Derek Smith!"
'That voice.... oh no....Carmen' Derek sighed in his thoughts.
Back in high school, Derek had a crush on one of his classmates named Carmen, who at the time was one of the hottest looking girls in the school. After years of secretly liking her, Derek finally summoned the courage in their school prom to confess his feelings for Carmen.
Sadly, for Derek, not only did Carmen reject Derek, she also made fun of him or being rich or handsome, even calling him names, including.... you guessed it.... a loser.
Although Derek is a Quinton now, he knows that his past still remember him as Derek Smith the loser. Nevertheless, this is a good chance for him to get back at his past...if they still try to bother him.
Taking a breath to collect himself, Derek turned around to see Carmen, arm in arm with a man who looked much older than Carmen, probably same aged as Owen Beck.
"Oh hey Carmen. What a surprise to see you here." greeted Derek.
"I'm more surprised to see you here. I didn't know the Quinton resort allowed trash to enter their premises. Hahaha." Carmen laughed at Derek.
"That wasn't neces..."
"Shut up loser!" interrupted Carmen. "Do you see this man beside me? He holds a high ranking position at Quinton Tower. See this bag I'm carrying? This costs 25 grand. That's probably three years of your salary and he bought it for me. Can you afford this? Nah! So save your crap and get out of this place right now! This hotel is already ruined thanks to your presence."
Derek could not help but smirk.
"Hey young man, I don't know you but if I were you I wouldn't even smile after hearing what Carmen just said. Look if you need job at Quinton Tower I can recommend you one. I hear their security team has a vacancy available." said the man next to Carmen, with a huge hint of mockery and arrogance in his voice.
"Haha. Nice one honey." laughed Carmen.
'Oh, the irony of you saying that. We do need more security.' thought Derek, still smirking.
"A job, huh? What's your name, sir?" asked Derek.
"My name is William Norton." replied the man.
"A piece of advice William. People like Carmen are what you call.... gold diggers. As soon as you lose your worth.... which you will in a matter of minutes, this b**** will leave you in a snap and look for her next sugar daddy. So... leave her while you still can." Derek said with an icy voice.
"You really are looking for death, aren't you boy!" William was getting angry at Derek for that insult.
"Nah. You are. Trust me William. One phone call and it's game over for you." replied Derek.
"Ha. I like to see you try. After your charade is over, I'll be calling the police to take you crazy loser ass away!" mocked William.
Their confrontation was so loud it attracted attention from everyone surrounding them. Most people were taking Carmen and William's side and gossiping negatively about Derek.
Derek, however, kept his cool.
"Okay old man. It's your funeral." replied Derek, before taking his phone out and making a call. As the phone was ringing, Derek proceeded to put the call on loudspeaker. After two rings, the call connected.
"Derek. We've been waiting for you for a while now. Everything OK with you?" Amanda called from the other side of the call.
"I'm fine Amanda. Can you pass your phone to Owen please?"
"Sure. One second" replied Amanda, before passing her phone to Owen.
"Yes, Young Quinton. You asked for me?" Owen's voice could be heard from the other side now.
Young Quinton? William and Carmen started to get confused. Who is Young Quinton?
"Owen, do we have a William Norton working at the Quinton Tower? I hear he's a high-ranking manager." enquired Derek.
"I do know him. He's not really a high-ranking manager. He is in middle tier management. He does earn a decent salary; but nothing compared to you." replied Owen.
"Interesting you say that Owen; because he's right here in front of me and he wants to offer me a job as a security guard for Quinton Tower. What say you, Owen?" asked Derek.
"WHAT? DOES HE HAVE A DEATH WISH? Where are you, Young Quinton? I'll come out to meet you now." Owen was enraged that some peasant could insult his Young Master in such a demeaning way.
"I'm actually outside the restaurant. Bring Amanda with you too. Thanks." replied Derek before hanging up.
