Me and Evangeline were merrily talking to each other about different things. I was curious about her past, because now I know that it isn't just 'dark', but it has a much greater weight to it. But I decided not to ask her about it. Its none of my business, after all.
"But, Samuel. I never would've imagined that you discovered a new type of magic!! That's crazy!", Evangeline exclaimed with eyes that looked like they had red stars in them.
"Uhh, haha, yeah! I got so lucky! Mhm!", I lied.
"I seriously had no idea you were that strong, though... But... what are you gonna do now? now that your secret in out in the open?", she asked in concern.
"*Sigh... I'll just have to stick close to the school for the time being. At least till I get strong enough to defend myself..."
"Hmm... You can always use a disguise to go outside!"
"Oh, yeah... that's a good idea...", I hadn't even thought of using a disguise... there's actually a really good artifact I know the crafting recipe of that can do just the very well...
"Anyways, now that I saw your true power... it seems that you are much stronger than me... at least for now...", she looked bitter.
"Haha, don't worry. You'll get stronger too. Maybe not as strong as me, but strong enough to be my rival?", I said in a mocking tone.
"MMMMPPPHH! You Jerk!", as expected, she got angry and made a pout.
'seriously... she's just a novel villain... how is she so damn cute?!', I thought before destroying that thought by singing 'Bury The Light' loudly in my head.
"Haha, I'm sorry. I'll help you get stronger."
She looked at me with dazed eyes.
"Really?!", she asked with enthusiasm.
"Really.", I replied monotonously.
'haha... the main storyline has gone completely in the shitter...', I laughed inwardly.
The cold, cruel, and annoying villainess has turned into this cute little junior, whom I have the responsibility of training... The main character, who was originally unmatched has been stopped by a complete stranger... An extra character has ransacked the main gear of some of the strongest villains... There's no point in overthinking things anymore... I'll just have to go with the flow.
As we were bickering, we were interrupted by the sound of the sliding doors opening.
It was Annabelle. The teacher who stooped me and Julian's bloody duel.
She was wearing a red dress, and her hourglass-like body was being especially highlighted by it. Her face was immaculate. Red hair and red eyes.
'Wow... She's hot as fuck... Evangeline's cuter though...', once again, my intrusive thoughts annoyed me.
"Good evening, teacher.", Evangeline spoke up.
"Good evening. Did I interrupt you two?"
"N-no, not at all!", Evangeline looked a bit flustered for some reason.
"Oh, is that right? To me, it seemed like you two were quite close and were sharing some fun time together after that whole ordeal..."
"T-Teacher! It's nothing like that!", she became even more flustered.
"Ahem. Good Evening, Ma'am."
"Call me Mrs. Anna, please."
"Good evening, Mrs. Anna.", I complied.
"... I believe you already know why I'm here?"
"Is it because of the magic I showed?"
"Precisely."
"Okay, let me explain."
I then told her about gravity magic and how I got it. Of course, I didn't tell her how it worked, in the sense of the mana theory. I just told her, 'I use it by instinct'. I didn't expect the excuse would work, but apparently, most people use magic by instinct anyway, so it wasn't that surprising to her.
After learning all the fundamentals of magic and spell theory, the mage uses their experience and memory to cast a spell they already know. It's kind of like solving the same math problem but with different values.
"Hmm... A new type of magic... this is quite the find, Samuel..."
"Thank you, Mrs. Anna"
"That wasn't a compliment. Now I have more work on my hands... I have to protect you from the greedy old geezers from the sorcery tower...", she grumbled.
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Anna. For inconveniencing you."
"Ah! Don't apologize! You did nothing wrong, student. Fighting for your honor and your friend's honor is only natural. And if you had fought with the opponent while hiding your strength, it wouldn't have just ended with your defeat, but the honor of the opponent would have been hurt too. You did the right thing, okay?"
'Wow. She's so nice!'
"Yes, Ma'am."
"Hmm. Rest now. I'll go and do my job."
Mrs. Anna then left. She had left quite an impression on me. All the teachers in this school are really nice...
The sun had long settled since Mrs. Anna and I started talking, and now it was completely nighttime.
I and Evangeline were left alone in the room, surrounded by nothing but silence.
I looked at the door for a few seconds, before turning my gaze to Evangeline.
She was already looking at me with a flushed face, which almost made my heart pop out of my chest because of the surprise. The surprise was quite justified! She was looking straight at me!
"D-do you want me to stay?", she asked.
'what...?'
"What?"
"E-earlier... when you were sleeping... you had a bad look on your face... and were sweating quite a lot... I sometimes wake up like that, and it's usually because of a nightmare... it seemed to me that you have nightmares while sleeping... just like me... So, I... w-wanted to h-help... And, it's quite late anyways... might as well stay here, right?", her gaze turned toward the ground while speaking.
'Is she really a villain?', I asked myself.
'No... the Evangeline in front of right now... is not just a character in some novel... she's real... and she's looking out for me... This feels nice...', I concluded.
"If you want to, you can. Although I won't let you sleep on my bed."
"I-I WON'T!", her face became completely red in embarrassment.
She decided to sleep on the chair beside the bed. I told her to just sleep on the bed next to mine, a few feet away, but she wouldn't listen. I didn't try arguing, as she's way too stubborn to actually listen.
"Goodnight, Evangeline."
"Goodnight."
We slept. 'Together.'
FUCK MY INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS!!!!!!
-------- a few hours later --------
Samuel is still sleeping like a log, but Evangeline seems to have woken up. It was in the middle of the night. Not a soul in sight.
She looked over at Samuel's sleeping face.
'Now that I look at him closely... he's quite the handsome fellow, isn't he...'
Her face turned red again. But quickly, it turned into a warm smile.
'I'm sorry I couldn't thank you face to face... so, this'll have to do...', she thought before bringing her face closer to Samuel's.
She then closed in on his cheek and kissed him.
'goodnight...', she thought before going back to sleep on the chair.
