Chereads / FAS#1: When Tomorrow Never Comes / Chapter 5 - CHAPTER FOUR

Chapter 5 - CHAPTER FOUR

It's been two weeks since I learned the secrets of Auntie Marina. I always took care of her because her daughter doesn't care about her feelings. She still doesn't want to talk to Auntie and especially me. After the conversation between the two of us, we didn't talk to each other anymore. When we eat, the three of us are silent. Sometimes Auntie would ask Lexi some questions and she would answer it unpolitely.

She really hates Auntie Marina.

"Auntie, take care of yourself... don't forget to drink your medicine." I told Auntie to drink her meds.

Today is the beginning of my class as a student at St. Jewish University.

"Don't worry about me, Amaris. I can manage myself. Just go to school and study hard. Watch over your cousin, right? Report everything to me because I want to know everything about her," Aunt said while lying on her bed.

"Yes, Auntie, I'll take care of Lexi," I responded.

I bid a goodbye to Auntie Marina before leaving her room. I slang my bag over my shoulder and quietly walked down the stairs to the living room. I saw Lexi who was well dressed while sitting on the couch and reading a magazine. It was still early so she didn't leave. My class will start at 8 am sharp and the time for today is 7:20 am. I have some time to commute to the University. I won't go with Lexi because we might end up arguing in the car. Although she has her own car and they have a family driver.

"Amaris..." she called me.

I stopped walking but didn't look at her. My eyes stayed on the main door.

"Come with me. There's traffic on the way and you might be late," she added.

What did she just say? She wants me to go with her? Is she serious? She is not joking around?

I was surprised to face her. My lips parted and I didn't know what to answer her. Honestly, I don't really know what to say to Lexi. Did I know she was guilt tripping me, right? She was just bluffing and making fun of me.

She hissed. "Are you going or not? I'm just being nice here, okay!"

"I'll go with you!" I panicked and said even though there was a part of me that didn't want to go along. But she insisted on it, so I will grab the opportunity to get close to her.

She put the magazine she was holding on the table and stood up. She walked towards me not to touch me or pass me by. She just walked out through the main door first and I smiled and followed her towards the garage.

I don't know what she ate and why she is so nice to me now. Whatever the reason is, I am thankful for being nice. I shouldn't doubt her kindness right now because she let me come with her to the University.

"Get in," she uttered as she opened the driver's door. She got inside and put on her seatbelt.

I shook my head while still having a smile on my face. I opened the passenger seat door and got inside. I also put on a seatbelt. She looked at me so I stopped moving. She raised her left eyebrows and looked away.

I gulped.

"How's Mommy?" She started a conversation. "I heard she painted last night. I was asking if she's alright."

I took a deep breath and hid the smile on my lips. "She's okay. She was just so hungry that's why she passed out last night."

Gosh! What an alibi, Amaris is too obvious.

"Are you sure? As far as I remember she won't let herself starve. She hates skipping meals and why would she forget to eat?" She asked me again.

The tone of her voice was mixed with doubts and curiosity.

Did she let me accompany her to her car to ask me about Auntie?

"Is she sick, Amaris?" She asked me again. But hernvoice had a tone of sadness and coldness. It's cold as ice inside the freezer, it's too cold.

I can feel it. She is cold yet she was concerned.

Who wouldn't be worried, right? That's her mother. Of course she will get worried and concerned.

"No, she wasn't. She was really hungry because she was busy with her work," I lied again.

Syera Amaris Guanzon is now a certified liar. It's a white secret between Aunt Marina and me that she is sick and I can't tell others about that secret of hers. I will not break my promise even if I am called a liar.

"Okay! If you say so. But I warned you, Amaris if I found out that Mommy is sick... I will never forgive you." She warned me.

I nodded my head in response.

Now I know the consequences of hiding my aunt's illness. I will accept it if she doesn't want to talk to me and she gets angry with me. I will accept it for the sake of my promise to Auntie Marina.

I was quiet until Lexi and I arrived at St. Jewish University. She let me enter the campus first. I don't want to complain because she made me go with her and I also don't want us to fight again.

Lexi has a hidden kindness but she shows her bad sides more. Maybe it's her defense mechanism. She became a brat so that no one would approach her or make friends with her. I noticed that whenever someone approached her to make friends, she became a war freak bitch.

She even pushed the girl. I wanted to to tell  her that it wasn't right but I didn't want us to fight. So at the end I just helped the girl to stand up.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

She smiled and thanked me. "Thank you for helping me."

"Why did she push you?" I asked even though I knew the answer because I saw how nasty this girl was. I mean how she teases Lexi about becoming friends.

"I want to be friends with her. She's pretty and she's like a goddess to me. She looks nice but I made a mistake," she said sadly. "I just want to make friends but her? She doesn't want me! I hate her already!"

I sighed. "Don't! She doesn't deserve to be hated, okay? No one deserved it. I'm sorry if she pushed you... because you are the same. If she doesn't want to be friends with someone then let her be. Maybe it's because she's not comfortable with you that's why she doesn't want to be friends."

She looked at me like she was in shock. I just smiled at her and patted her shoulder. "Even me, if you tease me like that I will get mad too. I will be mad at you."

"Do you know her?" The girl asked me.

I nodded my head. "Yes, she is my cousin... we're not close either but she's kind. It's just that she's a bit grumpy..."

I heard the girl's soft giggle so I laughed too. Well this girl is funny.

"What is your name by the way?" I asked her with a smile on my lips.

"Calliope, but you can call me Calli," she answered with a big smile on her face.

I smiled back at him and raised my left hand to shake hands with him. "I am Syera Amaris but you call me Sye or Amaris."

"Okay, noted!"

We both said goodbye to each other because we still have classes. She told me that she was an Engineering student and of course I'm amazed. I thought she was a fashion designer like me but I was wrong. She is beautiful and her clothes are beautiful so I thought she was a fashion designer.

I shrugged my shoulder and walked inside the classroom where my first class is. There are many people inside and they all have their own world. I mean they are all doing something except for the people in the back because they are just making noise. They even look at me ups and downs. But I didn't bother to pay attention to them.

I looked for an empty seat. I sat near the window and in the middle row. I don't want to be in the front because it's vague and if I'm in the back I might not understand anything the whole semester.

"Hi!"

I turned around to see a gay man approaching me. He smiled at me and waved so I smiled back at him.

"Hello... oum what do you need?"  I asked him politely.

"I just want to make friends with you. But since you approach me too, we're already friends," he said then clapped his hands.

"Sure! Of course we can. I'm not choosy when it comes in finding friends," I said and smiled.

He looks nice and why would I refuse, right? He wants to make friends with me and who am I to reject it? I also want many friends. The more the merrier they say. Life is revolving about our friends, family and to our carrer.

Time quickly passed by. My first class was over so I put my things away and was about to leave the classroom but suddenly Nasse, that gay guy who became my friend just today, called me. He is really nice and comfortable. He helps me understand those lessons we had earlier that I couldn't get. He even helped me with my sketch.

"Let's go together. I just want to have fun," he said happily.

I nodded. "Sure! Where are we? Is it the cafeteria? Our next class is at 11 am, right?"

He put his hand on his chin to think. I smiled because I remembered Justine from her or maybe, I just missed my boy best friend? I will call him later when I get home.

"What if, we buy food at the cafeteria and then hang out in the field?" He asked.

"Is it good on the field?" I asked him back.

He grinned. "Of course! There are many handsome guy passing by and the view is beautiful… let's go boy hunting."

I laughed softly at what he said. Boy hunting? I'm not interested but I'm not a killjoy so I just agreed.

First we went to the cafeteria to buy food for both of us. I look at the menu on the monitor while standing in line. The queue is not that long. There were five people in front of Nasse and me.

What should I eat now? Maybe just chips and can drinks. I'm not hungry. I just need something to eat so I don't get bored.

When I was about to buy at the counter, someone suddenly intervened. I frowned and drew a line while looking at a man in front of me. So annoying! Why does he have to squeeze in when he can line up at the back, right?

"A—"

"Excuse me! You know there is someone here but why did you interject?" I asked annoyed and slapped the shoulder of the man who entered the queue.

Gosh! Does he not know the word gentleman?

"You don't know the word gentleman, do you? Or maybe you want to be a gentleman, don't you?" I added.

I'm disgusted.

Nasse was pulling my hand but I ignored him. I was still talking when that man suddenly faced me. My eyes widened looking at him and he almost spat.

What the fudge! He is the man in the hallway during enrollment. Wow! Small world.

He looked at me up and down.

"Person?" He asked as he smirks." You're not even look like a human because you're like a walking donkey."
