It's been six months since she got freed from prison. A lot of things happened but thanks to God that everything is settled and back to normal. Except for her past relationship she refused to talk about. Her biological parents banished her from coming into the ocean and from ever becoming a mermaid. They seized her wristband and cut her hair to 12 inches. Now, she no longer has power or magic to perform anything. She is now as ordinary as a normal human being. No more transformation into mermaid form, she will forever remain a human. As for Travis, he finished his mission and went back to the sea. His parents arranged for him a new wife to be his Princess and now, he's living a happy life.
She had a carry-over in all her final year courses because she couldn't make it to the exams when she was in prison. She went back to college three months ago to rewrite her semester then she graduated with a first class degree in geography. Now, she's working as a certified geospatial analyst in New York.
Unfortunately, her foster father, Rao Abhishek is no longer alive to see that she has become the woman he had ever wanted her to be. So sad. He died in prison just a month after they got in. He wasn't used to the change of environment. He had high blood pressure, before they rushed him to the hospital, he gave up.
Life became tough for the Abhishek.' The only company left, the same one Purab used to operate in Mumbai, burned down overnight and they lost everything. They sold the only mansion left of them in Los Angeles and used it to start up a petty business. They wanted to move back to India finally to start a fresh beginning, but the people there who knew them very well as multi millionaire' in the past, now sees them as middle class in the present, would definitely make jest of their status.
They bought a cheap cottage in New York. And they're trying to live life easily even though it's getting tough by the day for them. They dare not eat three times a day. They'll only go hungry the following day and next. Just one square meal in a day and they're good. She heard from the news two days ago on radio while she was on her way to work that the son of the president is now married to a nurse who took charge of his health care six months ago. And they're living their lives together in Kentucky. In fact, she saw on Instagram public post, a picture of her ex and the woman, kissing in a white cruise ship, wearing an all white outfit during honeymoon at Venice. He wrote under the timeline, saying 'First baby is uploading, 50%'
Literally, that was supposed to be her with him and not that woman. What is she doing? She has to forget about everything and move on. He has already move on with his life and he is happy.
Hmmm. She's happy for him, his wife is literally pregnant with his first child, though him and his family has a hand in the pains and suffering and affliction she's passing through today. Because of what they did to her, she never had time for making friends or talking with a guy. In fact, she's scared of talking to a guy. She now sees them as the same. All she do is work, work and work and at the end of the day, she uses her little salary to put food on her family's table. Especially now that Purab and Mitali are jobless. They sometimes join their mother in the coffee farm business or sleep in the house all day doing nothing.
"Mitaalee, phoolon ke neeche kuchh laal vaale dekho. [Mitali, look at some red ones under the flowers.]"
"Gambheerata se, maan. Hamaare paas pahale se hee baarah thaile hain, chalo unhen mil mein le chalate hain. [Seriously, mom. We already have twelve bags let's take them to the mill.]"
This is making it the how many times her daughter is complaining in a day? Six? Ten?
"Ek saptaah ke lie hamaaree mej par bhojan rakhane ke lie baarah thaile paryaapt nahin hain? [Twelve bags not enough to put a meal on our table for a week.]" Urumi reminded.
"Maan, [Mom]" Purab dropped the basin of caffeine seeds with a huge scowl on his face. His waist and his back seriously hurts. "Yah ek aisa khinchaav hai. [This is such a drag.]"
"Kathin parishram. [Hard labour]" Mitali mumbled, plucking one ripe caffeine in annoyance.
Urumi stopped plucking and turn to her lazy kids. "Aapakee galatee nahin hai, aap abhee bhee sistam ke aadee nahin hain, lekin aap logon ko vaastav mein prayaas karane kee aavashyakata hai. [Not your faults you're still not use to the system but you guys really need to try.]"
Try? Whoa oh, they will die doing this all the time. Come on, Urumi, you know they were not born into this type of world. First class kids who turned middle class in one day. It's not very easy to master the conditions in their lives.
"lekin maan… ham hamesha kuchh aur koshish kar sakate hain. [But mommy....we can always try something else.]" Mitali complained, pouting her lips.
Purab sat in the basin, comforting himself in the caffeine seeds. Urumi freaked out on him. "Aalasee ladake, use dekho, kya tum mere dvaara tumhen thappad maarane se pahale besin se utar jaoge. [Lazy boy, look at him, will you get off the basin before I spank you.]"
Grumbling like a five year old kid, he stood up, crossing his arms and mumbling something.
"Tum donon duniya ke sabase aalasee bachche ho. Apanee chhotee bahan par ek nazar daalen, vah din mein bhoo-sthaanik vishleshak ke roop mein kaam kar rahee hai, raat mein ek petrol parichaarak aur saptaahaant mein ek hotal mein rasoiya hai. Kya aap usake jaise nahin ho sakate? [You two are the most lazy kids in the world. Take a look at your little sister, she's working as a geospatial analyst in day, a petrol attendant at night and a chef in an hotel during the weekends. Can't you be like her?]"
This is exactly what they don't like. Comparison. Is it compulsory that she had to distinguish them from their younger sister? She loves working three shifts, so what's the big deal?
"Maan, priyanka aaj hamaaree is haalat ka mukhy kaaran hain. [Mom, Priyanka is the main reason we're in this condition today.]" Purab remarked, casting faults on his baby sister. "Aap jaanate hain, jab bhee main koee baat kahata hoon, to aap logon ko ab sandeh hota hai ki yah hamen kis or le gaya hai. Gareebee. [You know, whenever I say a thing, you guys doubt now see what it has led us into. Poverty.]"
"Maan, priyanka teen paariyon mein kaam kar sakatee hai, to use karane do.vah majaboot hai aur naajuk hoon. [Mom, Priyanka can work three shifts, so let her do it. She is strong and am fragile.]"
Looking at her two lazy kids ranting nonsense makes her sick. She looked up above and let out a deep sigh. She wish her late husband, Rao, was still alive to see what they're passing through right now. She know he can see them from wherever he is right now.
She wants these sufferings to end. She really wants it to. She's tired of living under this condition. For how long? They're not use to these things they find themselves doing. It's very ridiculous for anyone who knew them before to believe that this is what they've become now.
Well, there's absolutely nothing she can do about the situation now. She has to bear it for as long as they're still alive. When there is life, there is hope. It's not the end of the world yet, right? She can't give up now. It's six months and they've all been through this shit and still ongoing.
She know deep down in her heart that her late husband will rescue them out of these disasters.
"Ham isase paar pa lenge, mere bachchon. [We will get through this, my children.]" She assured them then faced the flowers. "Aao, pakke utha kar din ka pahala bhojan karane chalen. [Come on, let's pick up the ripe ones and go in to make the first meal of the day.]"
