Chapter 14
Dorothy's POV
I had been living in a panic those few days, afraid that Theo would abandon me and give me to Paul under his pressure. I was too little to prevail against those with power.
As Emily said, I was just his pet on a whim. Emily had a prominent family to support her, but who would risk their privilege for the sake of a pet?
I felt really helpless, and my pride in my own ability to outwit Emily had long evaporated.
Theo seemed to have seen through my mind. He held me close and whispered, " I won't abandon you because of those rumors. Believe me! I never do what others think is right, I only do what I know to be right." His voice was low but firm.
I felt his warm breath in my ear, and I listened to his strong heartbeat. At this time, I felt that all my worries were needless, as this was a promise from the supreme King!
I soon learned from the newspapers that Paul had resigned and Emily had been sentenced to life imprisonment for concealing the arms. The media soon turned their attention from me - the rogue - to the noble Emily.
She used to be the most famous socialite of our kingdom, and the media was always full of praise for her with her glamorous picture, but now she had been published online and in newspapers and magazines as being in jail with 'bitch' carved on her dirty, ugly face.
The media portrayed her as a domineering demon, and all the evil deeds she had done before were exposed to the public.
Everyone was full of curiosity and gossip about this breaking story of a upper-crust woman falling from heaven to hell, and even in the Palace, I could hear the servants whispering about it.
I, however, was not excited at all, because I thought of my own experience of being exposed by the media and going from Alpha's heir to a drug-addled whore overnight.
The media only cares about how hot the news is, and not the truth. It serves the ruling classes, and the only winners are the darlings of the media.
Emily's former pride and status had been given to her by her father, and now that she had been abandoned by her father, she was destined to suffer the consequences.
When I thought of Emily, I thought of myself. Everything I had now was given to me by Theo. Even your own father can abandon you, Emily was a prime example of this, and my father was the same! I couldn't leave my destiny to others, I wanted to control my own destiny.
I kept on training hard every day. I could easily jump from a height of 50 meters without any damage, and my eyes became even sharper in the dark than in the day. Today, Theo took me to the mountain for training as usual. But now, instead of dodging rocks, I practised throwing daggers and darts.
I was blindfolded and threw ten darts at birds in the trees, squirrels, and rabbits running in the grass. Whizz, whizz! I pulled the cloth off from over my eyes and asked Theo, "How many hits did I get?"
"You've graduated with flying colours, ten! You hit all of them, my sharpshooter." His tone was full of praise.
I pumped my fist and cheered ecstatically. "Yeah! So what's your reward for me? Carry me down the mountain?" I asked, petulantly.
"Of course! I'll reward you, but not now." He paused for a moment and gazed at me.
"Then what do you want?" I asked with high spirits, as my confidence swelled and thought I was invincible.
Theo did not answer me, but took out five daggers from his waist and threw them towards me, "Now you use these daggers to hit me. If you can hit me, I will carry you down the mountain." He didn't sound like he was joking.
" Huh? " I panicked, me, use the daggers to hurt the King? My arrogant just disappeared in a flash. "I wouldn't dare, in case I hurt you..." I stumbled.
"You overestimate yourself. With your ability, do you still think you can hurt me?" Theo laughed out loud.
I was enraged by his disdain, and I pursed my lips and glared at him, "If you're not afraid, what am I afraid of, let's see!"
I was about to tie the cloth over my eyes, but Theo held my wrists and said to me, "I'll give you a chance, I'll wear the blindfold and you can see."
The bright, sharp dagger was shaking in my hand, and I couldn't throw it at all. I was afraid of hurting Theo, even though I knew that was impossible, but I felt uneasy. I tried to keep myself from thinking that the target in front of me was not Theo, but just an animal.
I held my breath and looked at Theo in the distance, his movements were so lightning-fast that it was almost impossible to keep up with. Each time I tried to throw a dagger at him, he managed to anticipate my move and swerve away, leaving me aiming at air.
I listened to his unbridled laughter and felt so frustrated: I had to come up with a better plan, otherwise I couldn't hurt a hair on his head.
Suddenly my eyes rolled, as an idea came to me. When I was about to throw the last dagger, I suddenly fell to my knees with a pained look on my face and cried out, "My leg is cramping up, it hurts so much! "
Theo heard me and came over quickly. When he was close enough to me, I aimed at his left arm and threw the dagger; from my experience, I was sure enough that the dagger would only graze the sleeve of his shirt and would not hurt him. I was just pretending to have a cramp, and I was being cheeky.
But when I had just thrown the dagger, and before I could see what had happened, I was frozen to the spot, and Theo was holding the dagger I had thrown in his hand, with a golden gleam in his eye and a commanding voice: "SUBMIT!"
I could not resist his aura and meekly bared my neck like a puppet.
Soon after, I felt my newly numb body regain consciousness. "Don't play tricks with me!" There was a majesty in his voice.
I blushed. "I just wanted to win, I didn't mean to hurt you."
"Dory, you must remember, never let your guard down until your enemy is dead or has yielded to you." His tone eased and he withdrew his aura.
"I thought I was pretty good, but I still wasn't even close." I moaned in frustration.
"That's not true, in fact you're already amazing, it's just that your opponent is me, giving you no chance of winning at all. When you have your own wolf later, you will be at least ten times more powerful than now, and don't forget, you drank a lot of my blood." He stroked my hair comfortingly.
I was now in a much better mood, and I hoped my own wolf would appear soon.
It was already sunset, the sky above the mountains was a canvas of vibrant oranges, pinks, and purples, and the mountains that surrounded us were bathed in a warm, golden light.
He took my hand and walked back with me; I felt like Theo was not a King, and we were just a pair of lovers, holding hands and walking in a paradise.
Soon we reached the Palace grounds and heard a clamor. It turned out to be the warriors of Theo and the Gammas who were fighting.
There was a big man standing in the middle, lifting a warrior above his head, and shouting, "Submit!". There was a cry of approval from all around.
I knew the big guy was Max, one of Theo's Gamma, known as Big Max because he was so imposing.
When Max saw Theo, he immediately threw the warrior to the ground and challenged Theo, "Your Majesty, let's have a fight? When I fight with these lads, I can only defend, I can't attack, but if I fight with you, I have to attack, otherwise you'll beat me to a pulp!"
Theo looked at me and then said to Max, "You can have a fight with Dory."
On hearing these words, there was a roar of laughter all around the crowd.
I couldn't refuse in front of the crowd, so I gave Theo a wink, expecting to get him to take back what he had just said. He didn't really want to see me make a fool of myself in public, did he? This Max was a Gamma who was about the same height as Theo.
Max must have felt that Theo's words were an insult to him, and his face turned red as he protested, "Your Majesty, you can't be serious, can you? How can you let a woman compete with me?"
Theo arched his eyebrows. "When have I ever not been serious?"
At that moment, the warriors all fell quiet and turned their eyes to me.
Max looked at me and called out, "Dory, come on! Don't be afraid, I won't hurt you."
I didn't want to go on the offensive, as that would be like an egg hitting a rock. I simply approached Max and started circling around him.
Max was obviously baffled by my actions, and after following me around a few times, he seemed to lose his patience and called out to me, "You need to attack me!"
I pretended I didn't hear him, but still circled around him, but now a few steps closer, then a few steps back, then a little to the left, then to the right.
At this point Max was irritated, and he growled and cursed, "What the hell do you want? If you don't attack, I won't play with you anymore."
I suddenly darted towards him and flew up to smash a foot in his thigh. Max must have had been stunned by my action and lowered his guard. He swayed a little and fell backwards onto the ground.
At this point, there was a chorus of boos, "Max, how did you get hit by a little girl?" "Max, are your legs soft or are your balls soft?"
Max stood up and walked up to me, his face puce, and roared, "You cheated!"
"I didn't, you cheated by not admitting defeat!" I made a face at him and there was another burst of laughter around me.
Theo came over and pulled me behind him. He said to Max, "A loss is a loss, that's it for today, you guys continue, we'll go now."
After we left, Theo smiled at me and said, "Good girl, I knew you wouldn't let me down, I now think you have a talent for trickery, and I suddenly have a new idea for you."
He finished without giving me a explanation, and brought me towards the Palace.
I didn't understand a single word he said! When we walked into the Palace, a man was waiting for us with a suitcase. When the man saw Theo, he hastily bowed respectfully.
Theo said to a puzzled me, "I just mindlinked a stylist to come over and give you a makeover."
"Why? " I asked in shock.
He didn't answer me, but said, " Don't be nervous, close your eyes, you'll love your new look." Just as he finished, I felt dizzy and obediently followed the hairdresser to a room.
I sat in a daze in the chair and soon closed my eyes and fell asleep.
I don't know how long it took, but I then heard Theo's voice, "Dory, open your eyes."
I opened my eyes and looked at me in the mirror: I saw a young man with short brown curly hair, who looked both familiar and strange.
Theo's voice came from behind and sounded excited, "You look so handsome!"
I then realized that the young man in the mirror was me! "What the hell are you doing! You've turned me into this? Where has my long black hair gone? "
Theo held my shoulders with his hands and said comfortingly, "Dory, don't worry about your hair, this just a wig. I'm going to take you on a trip to the human world, how about you accompany me as my Gamma? I'll call you..." he paused.
He stared at me in the mirror for a moment and continued, "Aiden, now you are my Gamma Aiden."
Before I could get over the shock, he added, "We are leaving for London tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. Dory, your new adventure starts now!"
