Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 You're Dead, and I'm Pleased as Punch_1

Xiang Wan returned home, and Nanny Zhang immediately noticed the band-aid on her forehead, "Miss, what happened to your forehead?!"

Xiang Wan didn't want to worry Nanny Zhang and didn't plan on sharing what happened at school, "It's nothing, just bumped it a little and broke the skin."

Despite her words, Nanny Zhang still pulled her over for a careful inspection before letting it go, constantly mumbling under her breath, "Ever since you were little, you've had a poor sense of balance, even tripping on flat ground, often covered in bruises here and there. That's why you need to be more careful, what would happen if a girl like you got hurt? And..."

Seeing that Nanny Zhang showed no sign of stopping, Xiang Wan couldn't take it anymore, "Alright, alright, I know, I'm going back to my room now!"

After speaking, she dashed upstairs with quick steps.

At night, Nanny Zhang brought a glass of milk to Xiang Wan's room.

Seeing the pure milk in the cup, the images of the night her mother fell from the building flashed through Xiang Wan's mind, and that made her tense up, "Nanny Zhang, take the milk away, I don't want it, and you don't have to bring it anymore."

Nanny Zhang had a rough guess as to why she refused the milk, but she was still concerned about her condition, "But miss... you've been used to drinking milk since you were little; without it, you won't sleep well. You've been suffering from insomnia these days, how are you going to cope with it?"

Xiang Wan turned away from Nanny Zhang, "I'll get used to it, I want to rest now, please leave."

Seeing that Xiang Wan insisted, Nanny Zhang could only give up. She closed the windows for her, leaving only a desk lamp on.

Nanny Zhang was at the doorway when she bumped into Zuo Xingyun. He seemed to have just returned from an important event, still in his black tailor-made suit that he hadn't had the chance to change out of, the buttons of his crisp white shirt fastened meticulously, the dark necktie also perfectly in place, giving him an air of unapproachability.

Seeing the milk in Nanny Zhang's hands and her worried expression, he glanced toward Xiang Wan's room, "What's wrong?"

Nanny Zhang lowered her voice, "The miss came back early today, and there's an injury on her forehead. She said she hit herself, but I'm a bit worried..."

Zuo Xingyun paused for a moment, then took the milk from Nanny Zhang's hands, "I'll go."

Nanny Zhang was somewhat startled. Although Xiang Wan and Zuo Xingyun were close in her childhood, practically inseparable, their relationship was now tense and hostile...

Before she could react, Zuo Xingyun had already pushed the door open and entered.

Hearing the sound of the door, Xiang Wan thought it was Nanny Zhang coming back and did not move, until the tall shadow cast by the desk lamp completely enveloped her, and she realized the oppressive presence that could not be ignored.

"Why is it you?!"

Xiang Wan sat up, leaning against the headboard, her eyes revealing the agitation of being disturbed, along with a hint of anxiety and awkwardness.

Zuo Xingyun stood in front of the bed, holding out the milk to her, "Drink it."

The two words were simple and direct, more like a domineering command.

Xiang Wan never took kindly to such orders, she pushed his hand away in displeasure, her force somewhat strong, also conveying her determination to protest.

Some milk had spilled over, staining Zuo Xingyun's black glove on his right hand, but even so, he didn't seem to intend to take it off. Instead, he simply placed the milk on the bedside table, his tone cool, "You're not a child anymore, you should know how to take care of your body."

Listening to his words, Xiang Wan couldn't help but find it amusing, "Hah, am I hearing things? Are you actually concerned about me? Zuo Xingyun, isn't it more convenient for you to seize my family's fortune if I'm dead? Don't pretend like there's any old affection between us, drop your act, so we can all be more at ease."

Zuo Xingyun did not argue, his face emotionless, "Then continue on this path. According to what you say, if you die... it would indeed suit me perfectly."

With that, he turned and walked to the door, stopping and slightly turning his head, "By the way, a reminder for you, your mom is just in the ICU, not dead. If you choose self-destruction, you're dragging her down with you. If I were you, I'd try every means to take back what belongs to me, not be devastated by the slightest setback, like a useless person."

The instant Xiang Wan threw a pillow at him, the door conveniently closed. The soft pillow bounced onto the floor, rolling a few times resentfully, startling 'Nianniian' under the bed.

Maybe due to the days of restless sleep, Xiang Wan unusually fell asleep before eleven o'clock.

The thunder in the early morning was somewhat disturbing, yet amidst the sound of thunder, there seemed to be footsteps and door opening sounds that were so faint they were almost imperceptible...?

When Xiang Wan realized this, at first, she didn't mind, as she was too tired, and after all Nanny Zhang occasionally checked at night if she was properly covered by her blankets.

The footsteps grew closer. Suddenly, a pair of cool hands gently cradled her cheeks.

The faint scent of pine drifted into her nostrils, and like being doused with a bucket of cold water, Xiang Wan's drowsiness vanished in an instant!
