Chapter 27 - Bone Chilling Romance

The boy in disguise clothes jumped into the room through the opened window. Suddenly, the room was lightened just like a light bulb and turned on and the window closed by itself. When the boy raised his head, he saw a lady with the dark skin sitting at the table while wearing a beautiful black colour dress. She was holding a cup of wine in her right hand while her left elbow was on the table. In front of her was another cup of wine. Seeing the unexpected welcoming, the boy was confused.

George : I'm sure that's not how you welcome an assassin.

The dark skinned lady smiled and said....

??? : That's how I welcome my darling.

George : Huh???

*Seven Hours Ago*

The boy and his friend group entered the house and saw a woman standing to greet them. She was wearing long sleeves tunic and black pants. Also wearing black boots and brown hooded cloak which covers their head. Every part of her body was concealed under her clothes and the only thing that was exposed was her hand palms. Even half of her face was covered by her hood and only her mouth could be seen.

??? : Good evening children. What can I help you with?

White hair girl stood at the front of the group and said...

Cecelia : We want to try fortune telling.

??? : All of you?

White hair girl nod. The woman smiled. The boy saw the smile and his whole body shivered suddenly for no reason.

??? : That's great. But unfortunately, only per turn and the rest have to wait.

Albert : How long would it take?

??? : Only like a few minutes.

Albert : That's fine.

??? : Then, you would be the first?

White hair girl raised her hand.

??? : Please come with me.

The woman entered another room along with the white hair girl and closed the door. The group sat in the chairs and waited for their turns.

*After Fifteen Minutes*

The door opened and white hair girl came out of the room with a satisfied face.

Charlotte : Did you get the answers now?

Cecelia : Yes, I think I did. She's really amazingly talented.

Charlotte : Really? Then, I have to see it by myself.

*After Seventy Five Minutes*

Purple hair boy came out of the room. Realizing that he was next, the boy started getting extremely nervous but tried his best to hide it and act normal. He stood up and walked towards the door. Then, he entered the room and closed the door. He saw the woman sitting at the table and in front of her was a crystal ball with dark purple mist inside. She was rubbing the crystal with her hands gently.

??? : Please, sit here.

The boy nod and immediately sat on the chair in front of the table.

George : (Don't think anything. Don't think about anything. Clear your mind. Clear your mind)

??? : Why is that? Because I would be able to read your mind?

George : Hm?

The boy was confused for a second. Then, he realized what the woman meant.

George : You can read minds? Ain't you a fortune teller?

??? : What? You think fortune tellers couldn't read minds?

The boy nodded his head and the woman laughed.

??? : Then, you think I'm kinda like a mage?

George : Wasn't fortune telling related to magic?

??? : Not really. Fortune telling was natural born talent and spiritual performing. You don't need to use magic. You can't become a fortune teller by just training for it.

George : Can't you use magic?

??? : I can.

George : Then, ain't you a mage?

??? : Not if I didn't live as a mage.

George : How mages live anyway?

??? : They don't.

George : Huh?

??? : Mages don't have life. Or rather.... you can't count that as living.

George : Can you explain in the simplest way? I'm still an amateur so.

The woman chuckled.

??? : Magic wasn't like the other things. It comes with a cost. In both learning and using.

George : Wasn't that the same as gold? Earning gold and using gold also come with a cost too. Like you have to work to earn it and becoming wealthy would make you get attention from thieves and bunglers.

The woman was amazed by the boy's words. Then, she smiled.

??? : No wonder the princess becomes friends with you.

George : She's just desperate to find partners.

??? : You think you got a chance?

George : Not in this life.

??? : Are you saying you might have chances in your next life?

??? : Second life would be still impossible. I think it would take at least a few hundred or more.

The woman laughed.

??? : That's silly thinking. I like it.

Then, the boy remembered something.

George : What about my fortune?

??? : Oh...right. Your fortune. You want to know?

George : Not really. I was forced to.

??? : Anyway....take this.

The woman took the envelope out of her pocket and gave it to the boy. The boy was confused.

George : What?

??? : You said you don't want to hear about it. So, I wrote that down on the paper. You can read it by yourself.

George : Huh?

??? : But, you can only read it under the moonlight. The texts weren't visible in daylight.

George : .......why would you do that much?

??? : Because I love mysteries.

George : But I don't.

??? : It was a bone chilling romance story. Reading under the moonlight would be really amazing. Try it.

George : Bone chilling romance???

The woman nodded her head.

George : .....can I leave this here?

??? : The envelope was cast with a spell. It won't leave you until you read it.

George : Can I burn this down?

??? : It was immune to fire.

George : ........why?

??? : Because I love mysteries.

George : .......thank you.

The boy stood up and walked to the door. Then, he left the room and closed the door. He saw his friend group standing near the door. He realized something instantly.

George : *sigh* (They're eavesdropping on me.)

Cecelia : How is it going? She's amazing, right?

The boy looks at the white hair girl whose eyes are sparkling just like a kid who was asking for nice opinions from their parents about the thing they did.

George : Yea, she was amazing.

Wil : I bet she's really pretty too.

George : I don't know about that part.

Albert : We're all done, right? Then, let's head back. The sun is going down already.

Oren : Yea, we should hurry. Otherwise, the gate would be close.

The group walked out of the house and went back to the academy.

*An Hour Later*

The boy was sitting at the table and looking at the envelope that the woman gave.

George : You think it was fine to read this right now?

Kuragari : I don't believe in supernatural things like fortune telling or whatever. But, this is the world of magic so....it would be better if we follow her instructions. I don't want to get cursed.

George : I actually forgot that living in the magical world part. Is that the reason you left me before entering that house?

Kuragari : Yea. I don't want someone to find out about me just because of little errors like this. Especially, fortune tellers and some sort of mediums. They're dangerous people. They can see the world that we couldn't even think of. They know things and can use powers that humanity shouldn't be. Sometimes.... they're messengers of the gods. And sometimes.... they're just dolls with consciousness. But also sometimes.... they're errors in the system. Just like us, the enemies of gods.

George : I see.....wait! We're the enemy of gods???

Kuragari : Not yet. We're still in larvae state. Still trying to overthrow destiny.

George : We're trying???

Kuragari : We're trying to change the future into something we want. Which basically means....the ending that doesn't exist in the game. And thus, it's the same as overthrowing destiny.

George : I see. I shouldn't ask from the beginning.

Kuragari : You'll get used to it.

George : I don't want to.

Kuragari : Anyway.....as I said, fortune tellers are more dangerous than you could think of. So, we should wait til the nightfall.

George : Alright then.

The boy folded the envelope and put it back into his pocket.

*Hours Later*

The boy was sitting at the table and looking at the envelope which was under the moonlight that passed through the glass window. Then, he grabbed the envelope and ripped the top. He saw a folded paper and took a look. It was empty at first but the texts slowly appeared. The boy was surprised and read carefully.

*I'm glad that you followed by instructions. No wonder that no one was able to catch you even though you were just a kid. There's many things I want to discuss with you. Come and meet me at my place through the back window. Don't you dare to reject me. I know that you send many Dark Mages to hell every night. If you have time for those ugly guys, you should spare some for women too. You have time until the dawn. Don't make me wait the whole night. 💋*

The boy was so shocked that he even froze in the position for a few seconds. Then, he stood up and immediately changed his clothes. Then, he jumped out of the window and rushed to the city.

Kuragari : Don't rush, boy. It's obvious that she knows about us from the beginning.

George : (But that's impossible. We haven't even met her before.)

Kuragari : It was possible that we just didn't notice. She could be the observer or even a stalker. Watching someone with Dark Magic was impossible unless the mage met with the person before. It could be that she just want to stalk after you and then found out about you unintentionally. But it was just a desperate assume. We'll eventually come to know the truth when we meet her. Just calm down a little.

George : (I'm just hoping that she wasn't a Dark Mage.)
