In the vast expanse of the boundless desert, a circular portal materialized out of thin air, formed by the convergence of sparks.
"No, not another desert again!"
Stepping out of the portal, Fang Mo immediately voiced his dissatisfaction, "Could it be another forsaken place like Afghanistan? I'm really not up for dealing with terrorists anymore."
"This area provides more open space, making it suitable for your magical rituals."
Ancient One didn't catch Fang Mo's reference and stepped out of the portal, casting a spell to create another Mirror Dimension. "Alright, you can proceed now."
"Never mind, I'll manage."
After a brief contemplation, Fang Mo decided to withhold further complaints. He figured Ancient One, given her advanced age, probably wouldn't even understand the reference.
With a mere thought, Steve appeared by his side, placing an End Crystal on the ground.
Unlike handheld items, these block-like objects could be placed on the ground without requiring Fang Mo's touch. As Steve placed them down, they seamlessly solidified into existence.
A flash of white light, and suddenly, a chaotic cluster of crystals appeared beside Fang Mo. Unlike the game's End Crystals, these possessed intricate and bizarre geometric formations.
At first glance, they resembled polyhedral crystals suspended mid-air. Within them lay an enigmatic purple symbol. As the crystal rotated, the polyhedral structure morphed and shifted, akin to a texture glitch in a game—changing from one shape to another along with the symbol inside.
An air of profound darkness and silence began to flow, gradually influencing the space around. The desert started to dim at a rate visible to the naked eye, despite the relentless sun still hanging in the sky. The surroundings grew darker.
It felt as if all light was gradually retreating, forsaking this world.
"These special effects are impressively realistic."
Fang Mo observed the changes and nodded in approval. Placing the dragon egg on the ground, he instructed Steve to set down another End Crystal at the opposite corner.
In the game, players only required two End Crystals to resurrect the Ender Dragon, utilizing the game's mechanics. However, in the real world, such an action seemed forbidden. Sensing the little creature inside the dragon egg, it appeared unwilling to hatch just yet.
(I think Older Version?)
So Fang Mo set down two more End Crystals.
With a total of four End Crystals surrounding the dragon egg, they formed an altar reminiscent of an ancient ritual. The sky darkened rapidly, as though ink were spreading across it. An immeasurable, profound darkness started to spread, making the desert visibly darker.
As though all light was slowly receding, abandoning this world.
The four End Crystals suddenly ignited in unison, emitting beams of light that shot skyward.
Observing this, Ancient One furrowed her brow.
She sensed a vast energy converging in the void, as if something momentous was about to transpire.
The entire desert began to tremble uneasily. Roughly several kilometers away, towering obsidian columns gradually emerged from the ground, one after another.
Soon, the second obsidian column ascended, followed by the third, fourth...
Atop these columns, strange and dislocated hexahedra continuously transformed, ablaze with an ancient, unquenchable fire. Ten obsidian columns rose in different directions, separated by kilometers or even dozens of kilometers, responding to each other uncannily, exuding a lonely, desolate aura—as though all life had faded away.
Even the profoundness of the sky seemed affected.
Amid the murky, ink-black sky, disordered lights flickered.
Stars arranged themselves in a bizarre, eerie pattern, offering a cryptic and illuminating revelation.
Radiant light soared from the flames atop the columns, converging into ten beams that met above the central dragon egg.
With a subtle 'click,' the dragon egg fractured.
A small figure emerged, brimming with curiosity about its surroundings. It inspected its environment while occasionally nibbling at the eggshell, emitting faint crunching sounds.
Perhaps due to just hatching, this dragon's size was even smaller than that of an average house cat.
It showcased a stunning shade of vibrant purple running vertically along its body.
Fine, dark purple, diamond-shaped scales adorned its body.
However, from its jaw down to its belly, and even at the tip of its tail, a layer of shining silver-hard bone covered it.
Its head featured two gracefully curved silver dragon horns, and a neat row of tiny silver bone spines adorned its dorsal ridge. The wing frame and the tips of its claws gleamed with the same metallic silver.
Perhaps due to its recent birth, this little one lacked a dominating presence and instead exuded an utterly endearing aura.
As Fang Mo observed the tiny Ender Dragon, he felt an urge to pet it, reminiscent of the way he used to play with dogs during his childhood. He squatted down slightly and emitted a series of gentle sounds to catch the creature's attention.
"Chirp, chirp, chirp..."
Fang Mo caught its gaze while making a few gestures on the ground.
The Ender Dragon perked up at the sound, turning its head to face Fang Mo, who was playfully beckoning it like one would a dog.
However, being freshly hatched, it didn't overthink things. Sensing the familiar scent emanating from Fang Mo, it emitted a gentle growl and affectionately nuzzled his hand before letting out a light purr. Then, it scampered toward Fang Mo, rubbing its small head fondly against his hand.
Amused by this, Fang Mo lifted the little dragon into his arms.
He then gently stroked it, as one would when petting a cat.
"M...a..."
The little Ender Dragon squinted its eyes and emitted a peculiar whimpering sound, "ma..."
"Hmm?"
Upon hearing the Ender Dragon's call, Fang Mo mused aloud in an intrigued manner, "So, this is how dragons sound? I thought dragon calls would be more like 'Are you willing to break this tranquility?' or 'Kill the mother' or something."
"..."
Beside him, the witness to the entire process, Ancient One, remained silent and refrained from commenting.
However, in the next moment, the young Ender Dragon in Fang Mo's arms stumbled over its words and uttered a single word, "Mom..."
"What the heck, does it actually want to kill?"
Hearing this, Fang Mo was taken aback.
But just then, a system notification sound suddenly resounded in Fang Mo's mind.
[System Notification: The localization module has been updated to the latest version.]
"Mom... Mom..."
As the system notification sound faded, the young Ender Dragon affectionately nudged Fang Mo's hand with its head. It then spoke somewhat incoherently, "Mom..."
"Well... is that what it means?"
Fang Mo finally realized upon hearing this.
But on another note, Fang Mo couldn't help but marvel at the capabilities of his localization module. It could even translate dragon language?
"By the way, Ancient One," Fang Mo pondered for a moment, then turned to look at Ancient One beside him, "Did you hear what this little one just said?"
"I can't understand. It's probably the instinctual language of this creature," Ancient One shook her head, "However, it doesn't seem much different from ordinary roars."
"Oh, I see."
Fang Mo nodded and then raised the young Ender Dragon in his arms towards Ancient One. He playfully shook its tiny front paw, which had a soft pink pad underneath.
"Is it cute? I'm raising it."
Fang Mo remarked.
"..."
Ancient One simply turned her head away in response.
"Alright, alright, it's time to go back."
Seeing that Ancient One wasn't interested in engaging with him, Fang Mo waved his hand understandingly, "You can figure things out here on your own. I won't disturb you. I'll head back now."
After the young Ender Dragon's birth, all the anomalies in its surroundings vanished. Not only did the End Crystals disappear, even the obsidian pillars in the vicinity crumbled and turned into dust as if eroded by wind, as if the egg had absorbed all the energy around it.
So, staying in this mirrored space held little meaning. It was better to return and tend to the young Ender Dragon.
However, just as Fang Mo was about to take out the Space Stone and leave, Ancient One suddenly called out to him.
"Wait a moment."
"Huh?" Fang Mo paused, "What's the matter?"
"Have you...visited other worlds before?"
Ancient One inquired.
"Yes." Fang Mo recalled his previous conversation with Ancient One about visiting other worlds, "I mentioned it to you earlier, right? I've been to other worlds neighboring Earth. It's just that the timeline is a bit early—World War II had recently concluded."
"What's that world like?"
Ancient One's curiosity was piqued.
"It's not much different from here; it's still Earth, and the history is somewhat similar."
Fang Mo elaborated, "However, in that world, some people develop mutated genes that grant them superpowers, leading to conflicts between regular humans and mutants."
"Could you provide more details?"
Ancient One's interest deepened, "I... am genuinely curious about what you've shared. If you don't mind, I'd like to hear about your experiences in that world."
"Sure."
Fang Mo agreed and began sharing, appreciating Ancient One's interest.
"Now, let me think... where should I begin?"
Fang Mo paused to contemplate and then asked, "By the way, do you have an aversion to dark humor?"
"What's that?"
Ancient One inquired.
"It's more of a figure of speech," Fang Mo clarified, "It's about really twisted and dark jokes. If you laugh and don't knock on wood, you'll lose all your good luck instantly."
"Could you provide an example?"
Ancient One asked.
"Once upon a time, there was a talking bar of soap..."
"Okay, you don't need to continue."
Before Fang Mo could finish, Ancient One interrupted, "Remember, I am the Supreme Sorcerer safeguarding Earth's integrity. Keep it somewhat dignified."
"Alright, fair enough."
Fang Mo shrugged, "So, let's start the story with a man named Sebastian…"
