Chereads / Second Chance In Marriage / Chapter 6 - Edgar

Chapter 6 - Edgar

Agatha's eyes widened by his brazen words, she was left speechless by it. In the end, she had no choice but to clutch around his shoulder, trying to hide her reddened face from the people around her.

Xavier walked, beaming in pride as he carried her to one of the rooms, he had never been that happy before. Able to carry his bride in front of people, proudly calling her his just by a gesture was something he always desired to do.

Xavier carried her to the room, a bit annoyed that he needs to let go of her now yet he still did. He gently put her down on the bed, as light as a feather, while glaring at Reginald and all the other servants behind them, "Where is the doctor? Do you wish your Queen to Die?" Xavier yelled, furious by their carelessness.

"He is on his way, your majesty," Reginald answered, lowering his head while signalling other servants to leave the room.

"Forget it. Get me some water and clean towels and leave us alone." Xavier heaved, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"But- your majesty—..." A sharp glare from Xavier instantly made Reginald quiet down, walking out of the room.

Once alone, Xavier took a deep breath before turning around and facing her with a sweet smile, "I apologize for letting you see such a sight of mine. I am not usually like this." Xavier cleared out the misunderstanding, squatting down on one of his knees, before her and placing her injured leg on his thigh carefully.

Agatha got clusters but the way he was treating her from the morning but putting her feet over his thighs. That was too much. How can a king do that? "Your ma—... Husband." Agatha almost called him 'Your Majesty'; luckily she remembered his words from earlier and changed it to husband. Xavier seems too close, and their husband was no better but less strange than calling the king by his name.

Xavier smirked in pride hearing her call him husband, holding down her feet before she started moving again. "You seem to learn faster when threatened than loved." Xavier teased when the maid brought a tub of water and a towel as Xavier instructed.

"Your majesty, let me do it," Abbey remarked; noticing Xavier kneeling with Agatha's feet on top of his thigh. As much as she admitted the King's grand gesture for her lady it was still not something a king should do.

"No need. I am perfectly capable of taking care of my wife. Leave. Inform me when the Royal physician arrives." Xavier ordered, not sparing any attention to her.

"Yes. Your majesty." Abbey nodded to his arrangement and left the room with Agatha flushed red with the whole situation.

"Can you take off your stockings for me?" Xavier asked, looking up at her.

Agatha almost jolted up from his sudden remark. She gasped just at the thought, even though he had seen and touched every inch of her body. Yet it was so long ago that doing something like that was strange and awkward. Agatha knew the more he was fooled by her naive picture, the easier to find his weakness and take advantage of it. However, his being a husband straight out of a woman's dream was not in the play. What changed?

"What are you thinking about?" While Agatha's mind drifted off to her thoughts, Xavier grabbed her by the waist and pulled her closer abruptly, their faces almost touching each other. "Or do you want me to do it?" Xavier smirked, brushing a few fringes of her hair.

Agatha pushed him away in a haste, the sudden pull was definitely not something she saw coming. That was too close.

"Your Majesty, the royal physician is here." Reginald knocked on the door, diverting their attention towards the door. Agatha instantly withdrew her feet, taking the chance and calming down her nerves as the door behind them unlocked.

A stout middle-aged man entered the room, wiping the sweat off his forehead with a handkerchief. As Edgar's eyes fall on them. He was quite shocked to find the king on the floor crouching while the new queen sat on the bed. Just a few hours, and she already made the crown for her.

If the assembly hears about it, there would be an uproar among the novelty. The noblemen who were always against this marriage, would rebel further. Edgar could see how big of trouble this woman was. Like a thorn, stuck to his majesty. The faster they take it out, the less complication he would have.

Edgar heaved, before giving a light bow, "Your Majesty." Edgar walked in, fixing his round glasses.

Agatha kept quiet, her eyes scanning Edgar's every little movement. In the previous life, it was Edgar who recommended that blend of tea after the birth of their son, saying it would help her recover faster. All it did was kill her faster.

Agatha was already in this game of power, the first she should eliminate was Edgar. If you can't get a weapon you can't use it.

"Your majesty, sitting on the floor like that doesn't suit you." Edgar politely commented, still keeping a smile on his lips.

Agatha wanted to gag in disgust, hearing his fake voice. Imagine the cook prepared your favourite dessert, but it was covered in a mountain of sugar. You tried to take a bite but the sweetness was so much that you instantly felt like throwing up. That was exactly how Agatha felt hearing Edgar's sugar-coated voice.

"It should be me who should apologize about his majesty's state. You see my husband cares for me greatly, seeing my injured ankle he just forgot he was the king." Agatha responded before Xavier could get a chance to speak anything.

Xavier, on the other hand, got so caught up by her calling him husband that he didn't even care to listen to anything else. She was finally calling him husband naturally. His heart almost jumped out of his chest and fell for her all over again. So this was love?
