Chapter 34 - What is a good sign?

"Have you ever met the princess of Embermoon?" Agatha inquired, sitting down on Xavier's lap. Her hands wrapped over his neck.

Xavier gave her a skeptical look. He wasn't sure if it was some kind of test. However, he decided to answer, "I might have once or twice."He enfolded his arms around her waist, pulling her closer.

Seeing her mind diverted, he sneakily rested his head on her chest. Agatha didn't object to it, her mind was too focused on the princess to care about Xavier's actions. Her fingers fiddled with his hair.

"What does she look like? Is she pretty?" Agatha questioned again, glancing down at him.

Xavier was certain now, she was testing him. "You want me to praise another woman in front of my wife? Nice scam, I almost fell for it." Xavier remarked, peeking up at her.

Agatha was perplexed by his answer. Does he mean that the princess was even prettier than her? Agatha was not happy thinking that. Unconsciously, her grip on his hair suddenly tightened.

Xavier sat up straight in pain, trying to escape from her clasp. Agatha finally noticed how tight she was grabbing onto his hair. She let go of his hair, with an apologetic face.

"I am sorry." Agatha apologized, patting the back of his head.

Xavier sighed, feeling content seeing her jealous. He was sure she wouldn't accept it but her actions spoke louder than she could ever. He pulled her closer, stroking her cheeks.

"You got jealous, didn't you?" Xavier teased.

Agatha's brows furrowed, as she tried to get up. Her lips pouted from the stupid question he asked.

Xavier wasn't going to let her go easily, his grab around her waist remained firm, and his lips curved up into a smirk knowing he hit the bull's eye. "Not answering and running away is not a good sign for a ruler." Xavier teased.

Agatha gritted her teeth, knowing there was no escape from this unless …

Agatha smiled, leaning over him, her fingers caressing his trimmed beard. Xavier noticed how her thumb traced his lower lips, her eyes gazing at his eyes. "Then what is a good sign?" She questioned, making sure her warm breath tingled on his skin.

Agatha rested her head on his shoulder, her finger slowly tracing down to his Adam's apple. Seeing how quiet he was, she was further tempted to tease him. Now, she understands why Xavier always tries to tease her. Agatha closened their distance until her warm breath mingled on his skin, sending shudders down his spine.

Xavier tried to keep a calm mind and control his urges. They were in a carriage, and doing that there was not an option.

"You didn't answer me, what is a good sign, your majesty?" Agatha repeated her question, with an innocent face.

Agatha felt something poking her from underneath. She tried to stand up straight, trying to deny it was that thing. "Uh..on second thought, I should just go back to reading my book." Agatha nervously spoke trying to escape.

"First, you lit up the fire and now you are trying to run away without taking any responsibility?" Xavier already lost his calmness from her tease. Agatha looked in a different direction, trying to turn a blind eye.

He already knew that she was stubborn. Xavier chuckled, nestling his head on her shoulder.

"I am not crazy enough to do it here but…" Xavier didn't have to finish the sentence for her to understand what he meant. Agatha didn't respond back, even a word would be like gasoline to the fire. She remained frozen in her place, her gaze averted.

"Is she not coming down for dinner?" Edgar asked the servant, only seeing Arthur at the dining table.

"I called her. The maid said she had already fallen asleep." The servant replied to Edgar.

Edgar's face turned grim, after the servant's words. He glanced up at Arthur, who had already gotten the gist of it. "I apologize but it seems my niece is tired from earlier." Edgar politely.

Arthur didn't say much, and nodded to him, eating his food. The awkward silence between the two could also be sensed by the servant.

Once done with the dinner, Arthur went to his room when one of his soldiers knocked on the door, handing him a letter.

Arthur glanced at the stamp on it before opening the letter. It was none other than his brother who sent it. A request to meet. What could be so urgent that he wishes to meet now, at midnight? If his brother personally invited him that too at midnight, then it must be something important.

Arthur changed out into an ordinary person's clothes, with a cloak hiding his face, as he sneaked out of the window instead of the door. In hopes, no one noticed him.

However, as one says, a pair of eyes would always notice you. Just at the other corner, with the window still open a pair of eyes watched him climb down with the help of the vines and left.

Adeline was further interested in him. The man that left had nothing similar to the man she met downstairs. The man she met was shy like a puppy but the man that went down was nothing like that. Even from far away, she could feel that he was dangerous.

Two different personalities, completely opposite then which one was real and which one was fake. Seems like an interesting quest for her to venture into. Even if nothing happens, at least her time will pass.
