Chereads / Second Chance In Marriage / Chapter 30 - Cynthia

Chapter 30 - Cynthia

Xavier's face turned sour, as his heart ached to see her eyes filled with pain and the cause of that misery and pain was none other than him. He can't deny any of those words. With an exasperated sigh, he rubbed away the tears on her cheeks.

"If I say I don't know how to take away your pain, would I be a bigger criminal in your book? I have no excuses for what I did. I was foolish to think that staying away from you would cause you less pain. When you were giving birth, I saw you crying in pain. I thought to myself, if I hadn't touched you or the throne never needed an heir, you wouldn't be in pain. After Adrien was born, I didn't dare to touch you again. I am not making any excuses, I am telling you my side. If you still wish to kill me, I am always here."

Agatha pulled away her hand, a snicker left her lips listening to him. "Why are we even talking about this? It's not like things are going to change."

"It can change everything between us. I don't believe that we got this second chance just to act like before." Xavier corrected her. There was still hope for everything. This was their chance to correct every mistake they made. "Trust me on this. If you feel even a hint of doubt in me, you can do whatever you wish; even if it's killing me." Xavier held her arm, trying to reassure her once again.

He can understand if she doesn't trust him. Trying to look at him as loved would be hurt when in her mind she believes he killed her. Can you look away from those years of pain just because someone said it? Earning trust was always the hardest, especially trust in love.

Agatha looked into his eyes, they looked so genuine and serious. She just wanted to believe that this time he wouldn't hurt her. Agatha had seen him from the day they got married. He had done nothing but win her heart, patient and caring. His words always show concern and care for her. Maybe it wouldn't be wrong to give him one chance. Just once chance to prove himself, that much she could do it.

Agatha broke down into tears, "I will try to. I will not close the doors to my heart but I will also not open it fully." She rubbed away her tears and gazed at him with determined eyes. "I need time to trust you again."

Xavier sighed in relief, hearing her genuine confession. He pulled her into his embrace, hugging her tightly. "Take as much time as you want. When you feel like you are ready just tell me 'You do'." Xavier remarked.

He pulled her out of his embrace and looked at her bit reddened eyes and face. It was a bitter feeling to see her cry like that all because of him. He needs to make sure that she never cries again because of him.

Xavier kissed her on the forehead, her eyelids, and then her lips. Agatha didn't withdraw, instead wrapped her arms around his neck. Xavier's finger traced down her back.

He withdrew his lips from hers, staring at her emerald eyes. His warm hand cupped her cheeks. "Shall we go for dinner?"

Agatha glared at him, clenching her lips. Such a nice mood just for him to ruin it. Agatha was sure this guy didn't know how to read her mood at all. Such deep talk, and sweet kisses just for him to deny the main meal.

"What happened to gain my trust?" Agatha questioned trying to be patient as much as she can.

Xavier blinked in confusion, "You can take as much time as you want," He repeated his words, without understanding what she meant.

Agatha scoffed in disbelief, grabbing his collar, "You bloody arse! You are doing this on purpose, aren't you?" She pinned him on the bed, hovering over him.

"W-what…" Xavier was more perplexed than ever.

"You know exactly what I want. First, you lured me, now you're backing away." Agatha leaned closer, her brows furrowed together.

"If you start it then you also have to finish it…" Agatha continued, as she went for his lips. A small peck, before taking over his lips, and slipping her tongue in his mouth.

Next morning…

On waking up, Xavier noticed the empty bed. She was nowhere to be found. Xavier got up from the bed, trying to search for her.

Just then Reginald knocked on the door, entering the room. "Your Majesty, you are ready to leave by tonight," Reginald informed.

"Alright. Where is Her Highness?" Xavier inquired, putting on his trouser and shirt.

"Her Highness is in the garden, reading a book," Reginald answered.

"Alright. You can go now." Xavier waved dismissively, walking towards the garden.

Agatha sat on one of the chairs, her eyes closed, her elbow resting on her thighs with her chin on her palms. Stanley was standing beside her, with his chin upright and a maid beside him.

Xavier saw her from afar, as he quietly went closer to her. Stanley was first to notice Xavier walking tiptoed towards her. Stanley tried to speak up, but Xavier gestured to him to be quiet and leave. Stanley did as asked. With the maid he went a bit far from them, just keeping an eye on them.

Xavier chuckled seeing her sleeping outdoors. He brought the chair close to her, grabbing the book in her other hand carefully to not wake her up. Xavier looked at the book she was reading, 'Cynthia: the first Monarch of Acarvia.'

The book wrote about how Acarvia was established. It was a woman who established Acarvia. She came up from the north, where nights don't visit, and only snow falls. That woman was just a slave sold to a man. Some say her name was Cynthia, and some say she was nameless.

Cynthia didn't wish to be slaved by the man. Hence, she killed him in his sleep and ran away from there, till she reached here. Acarvia. Her blue eyes and golden locks mesmerized the villagers that lived there. Later, she was called the goddess and ruler when she established the kingdom of Acarvia.
