Chapter 19 - Enemy

At eight o'clock in the morning, inside a residential building in Shaqiao Community, a middle-aged man tried to please a young man who was lounging with his legs crossed on a recliner. He said, "Evan, look, there's only enough food for one person in the house, and your father hasn't responded to messages. Is it...?"

As he spoke, the man quickly signaled to the middle-aged woman next to him, who understood and immediately shouted, "Daisy, come out quickly, your dad wants to talk to you about something!"

As the voice fell, a voice of impatience came from the room, "Mom, if you and Dad have something to say, just tell Evan."

"Oh, come out for a moment. Don't you worry about getting fat lying in bed all day? You should walk around more with that leg!" urged the middle-aged man.

Just as they were talking, the young man sitting in the armchair with his legs crossed spoke directly, "Old man, don't bring up my father. If you want me to go out and find food, just say so. Why beat around ?"

"Heh." Daisy's dad looked embarrassed and continued to smile apologetically, "I didn't want to trouble you."

"If you didn't want to trouble me, you wouldn't have said anything," Evan sneered, then continued, "If you want me to go out and find food, first, you and your precious daughter have to go with me. And from now on, you and this old woman will have half rations, after all, there are zombies outside, and it's not easy to get food. I'm already doing you a favor by supporting you two useless old people."

"I..." Despite feeling a bit angry, Daisy's dad and mom couldn't dare to speak out because of the other party's influence. They could only endure and squeeze out a pleasing smile. But inside the room, Daisy couldn't stand listening to others speak like this! In her eyes, her parents had raised her through all the hardships, taking care of her even when she was sick.

Speaking of care, she suddenly felt annoyed. AnthonyThat bastard doesn't even know dead or alive. He had the audacity to pursue her for three years, only to break up and act like he didn't know her on the day of their graduation. Such a man would be better off getting bitten by zombies.

Cursing under her breath, Daisy thought of Evan again. Luckily, fate favored her, and she met this second-generation rich man a year ago in a hidden room escape in Chudou City. He was generous and understood her needs. If not for this damn apocalypse, she would have married into a wealthy family and become a lady.

Taking a deep breath, Daisy walked out wearing slippers and pouted, "Evan, how can you say such things about my parents? They have at least given birth to and raised me. Apologize to them quickly!"

"Apologize? What are you thinking? Just because we slept together, you think you can act high and mighty. You'd better understand your place," Evan scoffed.

Daisy was always proud and couldn't tolerate Evan belittling her like that. She immediately started crying loudly, "You heartless person! I kicked Anthony for you and even gave you my precious first time, and this is how you treat me?"

"The first time?" Evan's face showed mockery. "Do you fucking think I'm an idiot? Do you think I don't know you had hymen restoration surgery in Elmei? Besides, your little trickery only worked on that idiot Anthony. It can hold a big root of ham, you dare to call it "the first time"! "

"You're talking nonsense! I'll kill you!" Daisy immediately went crazy and pounced on Evan.

A crisp slap resounded. Daisy looked at Evan in disbelief, covering her face and said, "You actually hit me?"

"I hit someone like you. I advise you to face reality," Evan spat on the ground, then slowly stood up and looked down at Daisy's family in the room. "Don't think I don't know what you're thinking. With this kind of trash, I've played with countless others. And remember, when you ask for someone's help, you should do it with the right attitude."

Daisy's family looked at each other, and finally, under Daisy's dad's pleading gaze, Daisy had to swallow her pride and put on an obedient look, begging, "Darling, please, if we don't go out to find food soon, we'll all starve."

As she spoke, she reached her hand slowly downward while sitting on Evan's lap. Evan took a sharp breath, instantly calming down, and said with satisfaction, "you are my baby."

"So what do we do now?" Daisy rubbed her sore wrist, looking hopeful.

"Enough talk. We need to prepare our backpacks and go out together." ...

"Darling, why are we going to the Yanghe Security Station?" In a corner at the street intersection, a woman couldn't help but ask the young man next to her, and the middle-aged man next to him also looked inquiringly at him.

"Naturally, we're looking for guns," the young man replied calmly. In this post-apocalyptic world, he was just slightly stronger than an average person. If they could find firearms at the security station, his chances of survival would increase. The three people were Daisy, Evan, and Daisy's dad.

However, just as the three of them were about to move forward, they heard voices from two people, causing them to retreat to a corner and secretly observe. In their line of sight, a handsome young man in a down jacket was carrying a rusty large knife, followed by a petite and pretty woman with her hair tied in a ponytail. Even though Evan had played with many women, he couldn't help but feel a bit moved when he saw this ponytailed woman. As he was captivated by the sight...

"It's him? How did he end up here?" Daisy exclaimed in a hushed voice, but immediately lowered her voice when she realized the environment they were in.

Evan reluctantly retracted his gaze, looked at Daisy's slightly gloomy face, and glanced at the embarrassed Daisy's dad. He frowned and asked, "Who is he? Do you know him?"

Daisy said, "He is Anthony."

"So, he's your little lapdog," Evan laughed. He was initially worried that it might be someone important, but now it seemed unnecessary. He said directly, "Daisy, since he's your lapdog, you handle this. We'll wait for him to come out. If he has a gun on him, you go ask him for it. I believe he won't refuse."

"But..." Daisy suddenly hesitated. After all, she was in the wrong, and she couldn't quite grasp Anthony's attitude when he hung up the phone that day.

Evan raised an eyebrow. "What's the matter? Can't you even control a lickspittle? I thought you were good at PUA?"

"Hmph! Who said I can't control him?" Daisy's temper was ignited by Evan's words. In the past, no matter how much she scolded and insulted Anthony, he never talked back. Even during their breakup, as long as she beckoned with her finger, Anthony would immediately come crawling back.

Thinking of this, Daisy's confidence skyrocketed again. She said confidently, "Watch how I train this dog later."

"Okay, let's wait for now."

Meanwhile, Anthony followed Cheryl through the entrance of the security office, passed through a corridor, and entered the warehouse in the backyard. "This is it," Cheryl pointed to the warehouse door.

Anthony nodded. The two of them entered the warehouse one after the other. This so-called armory was quite different from Anthony's expectations. It was only a quarter of the size of a regular school classroom, with a broken filing cabinet inside containing six handguns, several security batons, and five boxes of ammunition.

"Is this all?" Anthony felt a bit disappointed.

Cheryl rolled her eyes in annoyance and said, "We're a security office, not a military warehouse. Having these few guns is already pretty good, okay?"

"Fine," Anthony sighed. Although it was different from what he expected, at least there were a few. He put five handguns into his backpack and loaded one with ammunition, putting it in his down jacket pocket. After finishing these tasks, the two of them prepared to return the same way they came.

However, just as they were about to exit the security office gate, a familiar and unpleasant voice suddenly came from the side. "Anthony, stop right there!"
