Chereads / Doomsday Game / Chapter 17 - Cheryl's rejection

Chapter 17 - Cheryl's rejection

"Complete idiot." Anthony watched the scene through the shop's window, feeling a mix of emotions. This disaster had brought about too many tragedies but also revealed many heroes. When it came to Ford, he thought the guy was stupid but worthy of respect.

With a sigh, Anthony turned his head to look at the female security guard hurrying towards the restaurant. She was moving at a slow pace, barely covering half a meter per second. Judging by the distance, she was at least fifty meters away from the restaurant, while the zombies were moving three times faster than her, approximately a hundred meters away from her.

Given the situation, the female security guard would be caught by the zombies as soon as she reached the restaurant's entrance. To save or not to save? Anthony was torn inside. He estimated the distance between himself and the security guard to be around 200 meters. With his agility attribute of 2.9, he could reach her in at most ten seconds, and there didn't seem to be any other threats around. In that case...

Anthony's gaze fell on the gun holstered at the security guard's waist, and he no longer hesitated. He considered it a good deed. With that in mind, he silently attached the machete to his waist, then turned and walked out of the store, his footsteps like a speeding arrow.

Meanwhile... "Faster... a little faster!" Cheryl's face was pale, and she had reached her physical limits. She could only move forward relying on sheer willpower. According to her plan, when she gets to the restaurant, she can use the bunker in the restaurant to temporarily block the group of zombies

Lost in her thoughts, she moved slowly and didn't notice a stone under her foot. In a careless moment, she stepped on the stone and twisted her ankle, losing her balance and falling to the ground. Cheryl let out a stifled groan of pain but quickly reacted. Ignoring the swelling ankle and scraped palms, she struggled to prop herself up with her arms and crawled towards the restaurant with her injured leg.

"Cheryl, you can't die yet! You can't let Alex's sacrifice be in vain, and you haven't fulfilled Ford's wish," Cheryl kept reminding herself.

But she was just a newly hired rookie security guard, only 22 years old, at the age of blooming youth. She had never encountered such a situation before. Her nose tingled, and a sense of helplessness rose within her. The more she crawled, the stronger the feeling of helplessness became. Tears dropped onto her pretty face, landing on the scorching ground and evaporating quickly.

Turning her head, she saw that the horde of zombies was less than fifty meters away from her. Despair slowly filled her heart, and she muttered to herself, "Someone... save me!"

And in the next second... "Hey, security officer, what are you doing lying on the ground?" A male voice sounded in her ears, making Cheryl think she was hallucinating.

But the male voice spoke again, "If I help you up, you won't blackmail me, right?"

Cheryl raised her head in surprise. The man's back was against the sun, making it a bit hard for her to see his face clearly, but she could still make out his appearance. His eyes were narrow, and there was a slight smirk on his lips, looking like someone who could use a good beating. However, she couldn't muster any anger.

"Number 006525, if you don't speak, I'm leaving," the man's voice carried a hint of teasing.

"Please, help me! I don't want to die!" Cheryl shouted loudly, putting a lot of effort into her plea. She wanted to live.Anthony can hear the desire for life in Cheryl's voice.

He smiled faintly, bent down, and princess-carried Cheryl in his arms. Slowly standing up, he said, "Hold on tight." Cheryl felt very light in his arms, weighing less than 95 pounds. Anthony shook his head silently; this young girl must be in an administrative position.

Cheryl's weight of 95 pounds didn't have much impact on Anthony's running. She could only hear the sound of rushing wind in her ears, and although the horde of zombies behind them tried to catch up, they could only roar and watch them gradually move away.

After running continuously for five minutes, Anthony returned to the base and coincidentally encountered Verna, who was going downstairs to fetch groceries. She looked at Anthony with a teasing gaze and said, "Tsk tsk, I didn't expect you to be interested in uniforms."

"what interest?" Anthony was utterly puzzled.

Verna casually remarked, "The allure of uniforms, of course." Then she added provocatively, "If you have any secrets you can't tell, feel free to come to me. I can guarantee to teach you how to endure for a long time."

"Pfft!" Anthony inwardly sneered at this woman who was teasing him. She had been reluctant to comply when he saved her earlier, but now she seemed eager to exchange one dirty joke after another.

"Enough. She's injured, and you're a doctor, so it's up to you to handle the treatment," Anthony said irritably.

"No problem." Verna made an OK gesture and approached Cheryl after Anthony set her down. She asked straightforwardly, "Where are you injured, little security guard?"

"It's... it's nothing. Just a sprained ankle," Cheryl responded, feeling a bit displeased when Verna called her a little security guard.

"Just a sprained ankle? Are you sure your chest is okay?" Verna laughed.

Confused, Cheryl looked at her own chest and asked, "What could be wrong with my chest?"

"The heart might be throbbing!" Verna said and burst into laughter. It was at that moment Cheryl realized she had been tricked, and her face turned red instantly.

Anthony shook his head while watching the scene. It was pitiful to see a young girl dealing with an old rascal. After Verna finished treating Cheryl's wound, Anthony decided to be straightforward and said, "Number 006525, now that I've saved you, let's talk about revenge."

"What?" Cheryl, who was in a comfortable environment and feeling relaxed, couldn't react immediately upon hearing Anthony's words. "There's no such thing as a free lunch in this world, especially since I have saved your life. As the ancient saying goes, when someone gives you a drop of water, you should return a gushing spring. And when someone saves your life, you should..."

"Are you asking me to sleep with you?" Cheryl didn't let Anthony finish his words and immediately caught on. She looked at him with a gradually wary gaze, her right hand secretly reaching for the gun handle at her waist.

Seeing Cheryl's expression, Anthony knew that she had misunderstood. He shook his head and said, "No, I'm not interested in women."

"Is it because you have some untold secrets? Or is it a specific fetish?" Cheryl's gaze at Anthony became even more peculiar, and she tightly gripped the gun handle with her right hand.

Anthony's face instantly turned grim because he noticed Verna standing beside them, already laughing uncontrollably. Perhaps she was afraid of his embarrassment as she covered her mouth and trembled, clearly finding it very difficult to contain herself. Taking a deep breath, Anthony decided not to beat around the bush and said directly, "I don't have any strange fetishes, and I'm a normal man. If you still doubt it, you can come to my room tonight and find out. Alright, let's not talk about that now. What I want to discuss is the gun in your hand."

"A gun?" Cheryl looked at the dark gun body with a puzzled expression, not understanding what Anthony meant.

Anthony continued, "Yes, the gun. I need the gun in your hand right now, and the more, the better. I also want you to tell me if your security outpost still has guns or if there's a military base or an armory in the entire Lingshen City. It's crucial for me."

Listening to him, Cheryl shook her head without hesitation and refused, "I can't tell you about that. It's classified information."

"But I saved your life." Anthony's expression turned sour.

Cheryl didn't care about Anthony's gaze at all and continued, "You can choose to kill me, but I will never tell you where the guns are."
